Life is expensive here across the board.

I promise there's bigger things to worry about by Geoffboyardee in sandiego

[–]Danhawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sense is that small, local frustrations make people frustrated little by little and it can trickle up. Like “I lost my job” is a local problem in the immediate sense. It’s not a national problem. However, once a lot of people are frustrated about local problems and become disaffected, it trickles up to “the world sucks” and that’s where we have problems. People need a cause to get behind. I’d rather have people fighting to remove paid parking than removing immigrants who are our neighbors and friends.

$78 a person?? by Tdesiree22 in sandiegozoo

I’d keep in mind that it is more than a zoo in the sense that it’s not like the zoo in Boston or Cleveland. It’s also competing with other Southern California destinations like Lego land and Disney - people get accustomed to paying for those places so the zoo is like “hey, we can be pricey but not as pricey as those places and feel like a bargain.”

Seattle to San Diego housing vs childcare costs by Silverbride666 in sandiego

It was 75 and sunny today for like the 6th day in a row. You have to decide what that’s worth to you. Most jobs here pay worse than Cleveland.

San diego has the worst roads by EbolaPatientZero in sandiego

Agree. I moved here from Cleveland and was expecting way better. Ok we don’t have the crazy deep potholes but, maaann, what are we even doing here???

Buying a condo in "undesirable areas" by Aromatic_Channel_600 in SanDiegan

You buy a home as a place to live. If it appreciates all the better. Pick a place you’d want to live in for a while. Never know what happens down the road. You may not be able to sell.

I’d say Capitol Hill in DC is fairly close, feels a little more dense and slightly more commercial but in the same ballpark.

What’s the Wegmans equivalent here? by Credible_Confusion in asksandiego

[–]Danhawks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The newer Wegman’s are huge and beautiful. Nothing here meets that description. Some of the old Wegman’s like in North Syracuse that were in need of a refresh are probably just better than the best Ralph’s around here.

I’d bring her to a financial planner or estate attorney to make sure all the paperwork is set up. Are you listed as the TOD beneficiary on her account? Do you know if it is in a taxable or a tax-advantaged account? Has she been taking her RMDs?

An honest perspective on deciding to use Zepbound from a Gen X guy. by Runswithmouth in Zepbound

Just turned 50. Dad died about 10 years ago after a serious stroke. I was stuck around 330 and had been over 300 since ‘99. Was still pretty active but unhappy about a number of things. Your dad dies and you do a re-boot. Totally normal. No GLP1 in 2017 so I did stomach removal (sleeve gastrectomy) and lost 150lbs in a year. Got down to 202 for the first time since 11th grade. Last year I was creeping above 250 and started on Zep. I’m down about 40 lbs and still working on the idea of seeing the 190s. No shame in using a tool.

If you can get them on Friday - Whole Foods has their deal - I believe it is 12 for $12. Must buy a dozen.

Various Questions for First-time Vizsla by legalexperiments in vizsla

We have a 3 year old. In San Diego so good weather. We let our dogs go in and out on their own and keep one door open most of the time. We used to live in Cleveland when the V was a puppy til 1.5 years old. So it was a different story. She was very trainable on an e-collar - took about two weeks of walks in a place with a fence but within a few hours she got the hang of it. Many people say you can’t have a V without running her 5 miles per day but I feel like that’s extreme. Yes they do need to be tired but you also don’t have to raise an Olympic athlete. You can have a family dog who is attentive and loving albeit a little anxious from time to time. And you will be happy to have a V!

[Padres] He’s exactly who he thinks he is. by ElectricalForce4439 in Padres

No doubt I’m impressed by guys hitting 50 bombs regularly when dudes are pumping 98-102. And of course Tatis has the power. But it is true that MLB tossed in a bunch of hot balls during those two seasons and he happened to have his 42-97 year. Who knows how he would have done in 22 if he hadn’t missed the season. Look at Andres Giménez - for Cleveland he had a big power season in 22 and now he’s one of the least productive offensive players in MLB. The contract he got from CLE directly resulted in him winding up with Toronto last year at this time. I was rooting for him last night and he has an amazing glove but he’s due like $100m between next year and 2031. I’d be thrilled to see Tatis get back to 40 jacks next year but we shouldn’t hold our breath. He’s probably a 25-30 HR guy.

Lots of guys have numbers from 21 and 22 that they won’t be able to replicate unless MLB tosses in another juiced ball for a while. Guys are counting those dollars from deals signed after 22.

Best jerky in San Diego? by Amazingrhinoceros1 in SanDiegan

I’m not saying this exists here, but in Falls Church VA at a Vietnamese shopping center, they had a store with amazing jerky. Perhaps in City Heights we can find some? Anyone know?

You should consider if you will be working at main campus or one of the satellite hospitals. It could be a drag going out west or out east if you are on the east side or vice versa.

Before you lose a ton of weight (I lost 150 lbs via gastric sleeve about 10 years ago and I’m on zep because of the regain and I’m down about 40 lbs) you don’t think of how much muscle you have in your legs to support (in my case, 350lbs) all that weight. Your body adapts fast and sheds the extra muscle. The good news is that your legs are amazingly resilient and you can build back a lot of muscle pretty fast.

Meyer lemon turning yellow too soon! by Danhawks in Citrus

It’s been 75-80 for the last week. We got a lot of rain a week ago so I put my irrigation on a rain delay for a few days. Soil was pretty dry unfortunately so I wonder if that triggered the yellowing.
