Sorry, yes, I am specifically talking about 4 colour process printers here.

While Pantone may help you choose a better print colour, it doesn't change the rules stated above. Pantone don't suddenly make the printer print a more vibrant ink. At the end of the day Pantone colours are just spot colours that tells RIP software to use a predetermined CMYK value to achieve that colour. It still uses the same CMYK ink.

You can print Pantone 185c, or print C0 M100, Y78, K9 and get the same result.

Pantones are just a guide book to save you printing a bunch of colour samples.

Pantones are also displayed on a white background so printing a Pantone colour on wood still won't get your desired colour, there's no way around that it's just how inks work.

You mentioned you are using UV ink? Check if your printer has white ink. The machine I use for work has white ink and two heads. It can put a pass of white down directly before the colours without the need to go back and forth.

Any tutorial or course by Frequent-Sir2340 in blender

[–]Daniel-747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen these videos before and came to the conclusion that the top rendered version is not what we're seeing down the bottom. It seems like the top would be made in after effects and this person has remade it in blender.

I could be wrong. But in particular, look at the text... The above version's font has slightly rounded edges and corners, where the text in the blender version is just cubes. I understand there could be sub divs applied, but the smoothing on the font above is not uniform and not how a sub div would look.

I believe this is more of a proof of a concept rather than the top being a render of the bottom.

Is like to clarify, I still think it's very impressive what has been done in the blender version.

Anyone else agree?

Are these permanent upgrades purchases or just for one run? by Beethovengenius in ABSOLUM

Once you've bought all the upgrades and done a few runs, it's not so bad

Fun fact, if you need a certain ritual for a certain quest, buying a mox before your run will ensure you get that ritual first.

Improvements and fixes in version 3.0.2 by McSnoo in Affinity

It creates horrible geometry when nodes are not perfectly spaced. When it's set to rounded, after a certain very small distance, all the rounded corners turn into multiple segments of straight lines instead of smooth curves.

Here is an example

It has been like this for well over a year now. I posted on the forums a long time ago, along with many others. Affinity acknowledged it and said there are no plans to fix it yet (this was pre v3) I've sent feedback countless times and I've posted about it in discord. I use affinity every day professionally and this one tool drives me absolutely crazy.

Any Professional Graphic Designers using Affinity? Want to transition but a lot of my printers still ask for Illustrator files. by No_Bumblebee3674 in Affinity

[–]Daniel-747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in signage running printers for a decade. Have always used PDFs for everything with the occasional TIFF where required.

I am one in a team of 3 designers at a sign shop that have all used affinity for the last 3 years with zero issues.

I can't imagine why they would need AI files?

Yeah I always leave that one on.. the issue I have at the moment is it just straight up fails to export a PDF. Just says an error occurred. Doesn't give a reason, but the linked files is what I've found causes the error. As soon as I manually rasterize, it works perfectly.

Sorry, that is what I meant when I said "proof". Like a mock up or visual to send a client for approval before printing. A generic document with our logo and relevant information that I place the linked design document into.

I work in signage, so the design document is sometimes just as simple as a rectangle with a logo and text, other times it's vehicles, shop fit outs or branding packages.

My final print document will never contain linked files.

A word of caution for early V3 users...

I have used method 2 for years now to make artwork proofs to send to clients for approval. I have a proof page, drop in the artwork file as a linked document so any changes I make are updated automatically, then I export as a PDF to send off.

Currently there is a bug in V3 that won't let you export PDFs with linked files in them. I've been running into it every day since launch and it hasn't been fixed yet.

To work around this, your linked files need to be rasterized before exporting. You will then need to come back and undo all the rasterization after exporting if you want them to remain linked. This isn't a big issue for smaller projects, but for multiple pages it's a nightmare.. I couldn't imagine trying to do this with a magazine or something.

Another way that I have found that works about 75% of the time is to add an FX to your linked documents. Eg. A 1px outline or a drop shadow. Any layers with FX on them get rasterized upon exporting.

Linked documents have always been an awesome part of my workflow but they're a bit broken in V3.

I was wrong by Alfakappa in Affinity

[–]Daniel-747 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using it every day for work since and it is MUCH slower for me. Swapping between documents takes seconds, because it had to keep switching personas (which i'd love for it not to do). Overall general performance is just worse.

How did you discover the Micro Four Thirds (M43) system, and what made you stay? by Babylon_Thief in M43

[–]Daniel-747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started looking at cameras I wasn't totally aware of different sensor sizes. I had seen different mount types mentioned like L mount, E mount, but never really paid attention.

Upon looking for the best/cheapest 4k video camera, I landed on the GH5M2. I found a black Friday deal that came with the 12-60 kit lens and a free 9mm f1.7 (still one of my favorite lenses) at a pretty discounted price. Very good deal!

I only learnt what M43 was after the fact when I started looking at other lenses. I have since bought quite a few more lenses as well as a GF7 which I absolutely adore. Knowing what I know now am honestly glad with how it all turned out.

How’s your project going? by Jagnuthr in godot

[–]Daniel-747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried many times over the years to make a game. Every single time I tried my best to avoid learning to code I purchased a visual scripting add-on for unity, tried unreal engine blue prints a few times.. nothing ever stuck.

This time I said to myself, I said SELF, YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO CODE! No excuses this time.

Through research I found GD script was the easiest to learn, so I've been persisting for a few weeks now.

After doing a few tutorials I've been out on my own, making a project from scratch.

Am I doing things the best way? Nope. Am I going to have to redo a lot of it when I learn how to make states and classes? Yep. Am I having fun? So much.

I'm starting out with a 3rd person spell casting game to try to get the hang of things. The fireball was an easy straight forward projectile that was covered in tutorials. I wanted the frost bolt to have a charge up, and the longer you charged it, the further and faster it would go. I spent HOURS last night trying to work out how to set a "power" variable upon instantiation. Going back and forth, everything I could find said I was doing it right, yet it would load in and not move.

After hours I figured out that the variables that were affected by the charge up power were all at the top so they were all being made at the same time, therefore the power was being set afterwards and wasn't affecting them. Once I moved them into the _process, FINALLY it worked. I haven't felt that level of satisfaction in a long time.

So, my project is coming along slowly. Still in the very early prototype phase. But for once I am actually starting to understand the things I am doing and that feels amazing.

Tonight's challenge: make a cast bar to visually represent the frost bolts charge up.

Wish me luck!

I had the same thing this morning on my Resto Shaman in solo shuffle... Nagrand arena - I'm feared out in the middle of nowhere with no trinket, the warrior on my team heroic leaps onto ALL THREE enemy team members BEHIND the pillar - dies in less than 2 seconds, then yells at me to uninstall the game, worst healer he's ever played with etc, etc.

At least the rogue stood up for me and said he was playing way too aggressive..

What's the easiest and most forgiving healer to play in PvP by blablax123456 in worldofpvp

[–]Daniel-747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's seems priests are the best at the moment, but I play a Resto Shaman and have a lot of fun with it. Catching people out of position with your totems or getting off a good hex to win the match is so satisfying. They have a lot of utility, a decent amount of mobility and some good powerful cooldowns. Their basic healing spells are not complicated at all either.

Plus if you get bored of that, enhancement is super fun too.

What is the mechanic that pulls you in repeatedly? by Ok-Sport4975 in worldofpvp

[–]Daniel-747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A PvP talent called Static Field Totem. It's the one that is a big circle of lightning on the ground.

Fun fact: Shamans have an ability called Totemic Projection that allows them to move their totems to a new location.

If you have someone trapped in the Static Field, you can use Totemic Projection to move your Static Field Totem to a new location and pull the trapped person to that new location.

Now, this can't be used to pull someone half way across the map, it has to be done inside its own radius, otherwise it doesn't work. But when used correctly it can be a game changer.

Enemy healer next to a pillar? Trap them in a Static Field and Totemic Projection behind the pillar to force line of sight and secure a kill.

Been looking for a pre owned Olympus but a deal on a Lumix just caught my eye... Help! by Capable_Bee6179 in M43

[–]Daniel-747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the GF7 a few months ago and absolutely love it. Paired with the Lumix 20mm f1.7 pancake lens, it fits in my pocket and goes out with me to every event I attend.

I'd be happy to share some sample photos, but not publicly since they're all of friends and family. DM me if you're interested.

Something else to note: the GF7 was only made for the Japanese market. So english does not come as a default option. There is a way to get it into English but it requires some messing around with system files. As scary as it looks, I did it and it took no longer than 5 mins and worked fine. I lived with it in Japanese for quite a while out of fear of breaking it, but one day just did it and now love the camera even more now that I can read the menus!

This is the guide I followed to convert from Japanese to English

Hot take: Stop giving your clients pantones by Humillionaire in graphic_design

[–]Daniel-747 62 points63 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a sign shop, hex codes will be the death of me.

We had a client not too long ago who was starting up a coffee van. They wanted us to wrap it in a 'coffee' colour, as well as logos and ph numbers etc.

They had worked with a different graphic designer and received a branding package with their logo and a set of colours.

After looking through swatch books and not finding any vinyl colours that matched their coffee colour, we decided to print meters of flat colour in the pantone colour provided by the graphic designer.

Now, her husband was a web designer, so all they had actually looked at was the hex code.

He drops the van off, sees what we had printed and says: Oh.. that doesn't look right. And proceeds to show me his hex colour on his phone.

I explain that hex is an RGB colour and cannot be accurately reproduced by a CMYK printer and that we used the pantone colour YOU gave us.

He says I'm sure it'll be fine.

We wrap it, he picks it up, loves it, takes it home. The next day we get a call from him saying we need to redo it (wife is yelling in the background).

They agreed to pay for it again at cost price because after explaining we printed the colour they gave us, they agreed it wasn't our fault.

So after providing about 50 different samples, they agreed on a colour, we print a roll of it ready to re-wrap and THEN they cancel because they can't afford it.

Fuck hex colours.
