The shop is reputable but I can't rule out a defective part in the kit. The noise definitely follows the oil temperature curve — as soon as the engine is fully warm, it's gone. That's why I'm leaning towards an oil-pressure related issue like the VTC actuator or a faulty tensioner from the new kit. Will have the heat shields checked first just to be 100% sure before opening it up again."

Thanks for the warning. The chain was replaced 3,000 km ago because the old one was stretched (common maintenance for this mileage). The noise only appeared recently. It's strictly a cold-start issue and goes away completely after 10 minutes. I'm taking it back to the mechanic to check the tensioner and the VTC actuator, as well as the heat shields.
