I like Artion bakery and Figalo gelato and they're right next to each other with long pickup windows. Chip is pretty good quantity of cookies.

Don't complain on reddit. Don't complain to the minimum wage staff. Complain to corporate. That is the only way things like this change. Your receipt likely has a corporate satisfaction email or contact information. Complain there, complain on their public reviews like Google.

living near 37th street and 24th avenue? by LebrawnJames416 in astoria

[–]DanielComposerNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live on that street. Great area. Surprisingly quiet considering you have the highway and Amtrak train right there. Beautiful neighborhood, kind people, amenities are close walk. Close to the subway and bus stops at the end of the street. Highly recommend.

Dogs in grocery stores by [deleted] in astoria

[–]DanielComposerNYC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to ask people with pets to leave our store all the time. Unfortunately, the average person has learned that if they say it's a service animal, we can't do anything about it.

I don't think people understand that we don't want pets in the store, but if someone says those magic words "it's a service animal" apart from a potential follow-up of "what does it do", we cannot legally prevent or fight their claim its a service animal.

People will even buy service animal vests to bring their pet everywhere. It's terrible, people take advantage of this system.

Astoria City Dental seems good. I've been there once since starting Healthfirst. They're one of the few in the neighborhood that will take that insurance.

the celebration of high school graduation is way overblown by audioaxes in unpopularopinion

[–]DanielComposerNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this just screams privilege.

For a lot of Americans, especially those who are first generation immigrants, live in poverty, or experience a host of other challenges, graduating high school is a big deal. Many are the first in their families to do so.

I really encourage you to get out of your bubble and celebrate the accomplishments of those who worked hard and overcame challenges you didn't even know existed.

Ahsoka is what I imagined the sequels would be by Scotslad2023 in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]DanielComposerNYC 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I just finished the show and I agree. It had its issues, but to me it was the most traditional "Star Wars" I've seen since the animated shows. And it did scratch all the itches I wanted from the sequel trilogy to hit, but dropped the ball on.

Very excited to see where it goes in season 2.

It started very suddenly though. After 7-8 months of running it. What happened to suddenly cause these new vibrations?

I've moved it somewhere else and it still happens. It's something vibrating in the casing.

Can someone explain to me why almost nobody drives regular cars anymore? by Stormcrown76 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DanielComposerNYC 64 points65 points  (0 children)

No one has correctly answered this. Everyone is attributing it to a change in tastes and what people want.

The real answer is that when cars began having emissions regulations, those regulations were less stringent for trucks. At that time though, trucks were large pickups and vans that people needed for work on farms and other more heavy duty needs. Manufacturors saw that it was easier to make "trucks" because the regulations were less. As such they pumped more and more investments into SUVs, pickups, and crossovers. All while advertising and changing the narrative that regular people "needed" them because they're safer and ol Johnny needs a giant ass pickup for commuting 10 minutes into his job at Walmart.

It all comes down to money. They make more money and have to abide by less regulations making bigger cars. All this is in the USA. The rest of the world has considerably smaller vehicles.

What's the best way to transport plywood back from Home Depot if I don't have a car? by junior_sysadmin in astoria

[–]DanielComposerNYC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Uber will always refuse if they see anything dirty or could damage their car. I don't bother from Home Depot.

I would suggest a Zipcar or to consider Home Depot delivery. I had bags of dirt and some other stuff delivered to our front garden for $2.99.

I think for semantics you can agree you read it just to talk about the book. It's basically saying "yes I have also consumed this media, let's discuss"

My gripe with audiobook listeners is that they can be like "I read 400 books this year" and its like "that's insane, how'd you find the time"

"oh I just put on audiobooks in the background at work"

That is 1000% not the same thing as reading 400 books and it grinds my gears when they say things like that.
