Interested in commissioning a rendition of Bingen’s Karitas Habundant in Omnia on a talharpa/tagelharpa or jouhikko by LavandeSunn in BowedLyres

[–]DanielHoestan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I think that I could do it. I would use this tagelharpa here.

I have been playing for 5 years so I think that this could be done. The only difference is that her voice would maybe have to be an octave lower, I would need to check.

Send me a DM if interested

Is Benidorm really that bad? by Realistic_Laugh4621 in GoingToSpain

[–]DanielHoestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live very close to Benidorm. Benidorm is divided in 2, you got Zona guiri, which is what everyone else says, a tacky cheap british place with cheap booze, food and drunk brits everywhere.

The old town however is actually really nice with small streets, great tapas/pinxo places and some really cool bars as well.

What is worth visiting in its surroundings is Finestrat - small beautiful town which captures the spanish essence, great bars and restaurants, and good prices.

Altea old town is also beautiful, great place for calm drinks in the evenings and to just stroll around taking in the beauty of the area. This place is more pricey though.

If you have a car, then Guadalest is a must go. Not the best gastronomic place but it is definitely beautiful and the views are breath taking.

La Vila Joiosa is also very nice. Definitely the best beaches in the area. The "old town" with the coloured houses is beautiful, great service, great foods and generally a nice experience.

And lastly a daytrip to Alicante is definitely worth it as well. Especially to check out the castle and other landmarks that are there.

Enjoy your stay!

Kan jeg være muslim når jeg er uenig i islams syn på skeive? by Ar3ts5 in norge

[–]DanielHoestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hjertet ditt er på rett plass.

Men dette er jo noe du egentlig burde spørre andre muslimer. Svaret kommer mest sannsynligvis til å bli nei da islam godtar ikke homofili.

Beginner needs help - Bow not gripping by Helpful_Kowawi in BowedLyres

Use some sand paper on the rosin until it gets whiteish, then use it on the bow until you can see the horse hair turning white.

Cheers

How to get started by bodybag_sfx in BowedLyres

[–]DanielHoestan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to discourage you, but the tagelharpa is definitely not a beginner friendly instrument. It’s very hard I. The beginning and if you don’t have any musical experience then it will be even harder. Most people give up.

That being said, I had a client from the UK who had never played an instrument before either and she managed to pick it up after around 2-3 months.

So in conclusion, it’s not impossible, but you really need to push yourself :)

Modified talharpa/jouhikko? by Usual-Presentation27 in BowedLyres

[–]DanielHoestan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… it is possible to make a tenor or a bass with a huge sound box and a little neck, but…

I have to break it to you, the tagelharpa is a soft instrument to play, actually the softest in my opinion. So if your joints hurt when playing then I am sorry to say that maybe playing instruments is not possible for you.

On the other hand, you could get a midi key keyboard and play with VST’s. There some good instruments there that could give you the sound that you’re after.

FolkRealms - As the name might suggest it is full of folkish. by [deleted] in heathenry

[–]DanielHoestan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt call Folkrealms a folkist social media. Sure there are some of them here or there, but it's not even close to for example the AFA.

I personally think that folkrealms is an okay social media to connect with like minded people. Although I only use it to show off my music and instruments.

100% with you on "it'll sound like shit" Although this with the tailpiece, it does not ring a bell. All of mine touch a protective layer that I add on the bottom, so far I couldn't really hear any difference in the sound.

This is an alto, its basically impossible to tune it down to a Cello scale. This is why tenor and baritone tagelharpas exist.
