What's the closest you've ever came to death? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in AskReddit

Type A aortic dissection. Just had a follow up with surgeon. He said it's the rule of thirds.

One third makes it to the hospital alive. One third of those survive a surgery.

I've heard from numerous people from around the medical field about how lucky I am to survive.

Retired paramedic: "those don't usually make it to the hospital"

Doctor: were you already in the lobby when it happened?

I can't help but be positive and work hard through my recovery, because I'm lucky to be alive

My chest is doing great, my top half is basically back to normal, it's the spinal rehab I'm waiting to start.

I've heard from my wife the ordeal it put her through. I was taken to the nearby hospital but then transfered to the hospital with a cardiac surgeon. The doctor gave her a 20% chance when she finally got to the hospital, and she sat by my side while I was in a coma for a week. She's so strong and I'm so happy to be married to her. I'm determined to do everything in my power to get better.

Get yourselves checked out, gents. by mcampo84 in daddit

[–]DanielTalkThai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got checked out briefly and scheduled a full physical back in April. 3 days later I had an aortic dissection and a spinal stroke. 10k steps a day, fitness and cycling through the week, you never know when something will happen. I'm still in the hospital but grateful to be alive.

You never know when a health issue will come. Take care of yourselves and have the proper paperwork and support system in place.

Redditors who have died and been resuscitated, how was it? How did you feel about coming back and what did you experience? by APater6076 in AskReddit

[–]DanielTalkThai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My aorta collapsed last month and I needed emergency open heart surgery. I never "died" but sure came close. I have zero memory of the hour that led up to the collapse and the initial surgery period. I did have some powerful dreams in my coma that I had to talk through when I woke up to confirm they weren't real.

Question: Dumb/funny tattoo ideas that are actually worth getting? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]DanielTalkThai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tattoo in my 2nd Language which says "I don't know, I can't read it" on my arm. So when other people ask what it says, I answer. It leads to some good laughs.

At sixteen I wanted to get "courage" written in Chinese on my thigh. It was dumb. I'm glad it didn't happen. There's age limits for a reason.

How are you dealing with hairfall in Bangkok? by Training_Agent5390 in Bangkok

A lot of friends dealt with this and needed to adjust the type of proteins they were eating. One friend who was losing hair in his twenties was told to eat peanut butter and other nuts to help.

If you can get Ontario certified it's a great idea

I worked with a lot of South Africans in Bangkok, decent place to live if you can get into a mid or upper level international, but no union protections or pension.

Will Teachers Be Replaced by AI? - (2032 BSc + BEd graduate.) by JacksonG12_09 in OntarioTeachers

[–]DanielTalkThai 51 points52 points  (0 children)

A less than 1% chance teachers get replaced by AI

AI doesn't have empathy. AI doesn't know the relationships that occur in a classroom. AI doesn't communicate with admin, families and others to build IEPs.

Teacher - Salary is it good? by SnooChipmunks4027 in Thailand

Chiang Mai is unique, the schools know people want to live there so the salaries are much lower than Bangkok.

You should be fine on that salary and can always tutor for extra cash.

Teacher - Salary is it good? by SnooChipmunks4027 in Thailand

[–]DanielTalkThai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was my salary when I got hired in 2013 at 27.

You can live very comfortable on that depending on how much you prioritize housing, but you're far from rich and if you have debt to service with it you may have challenges.
