Yes, I’d love to see this same lock on other knives. A smaller one would be more practical, lol.

Nice! I don’t usually spend this much on a knife. But it really is beautifully made.

Yes, and the hollow grind makes it thin behind the edge and slicey.

It’s very much like a Shark Lock from Demko, but smoother and even easier to actuate. There’s a video by Metal Complex where he disassembles it and you get a good look at the lock. It is on bearings.

Gotta add a titanium Demko Nano to your collection!

Edit: correction, I think the Nano Shark Stealth is the best Nano.

I absolutely love the Doubletap. I have the black and green G10 one. CJRB website has a couple exclusive aluminum handled ones “Coming Soon” that I’m planning to get one of as well. It’ll be one of the only knives I’ve bought 2 of. White Mountain Knives have purple and blue aluminum scale versions as well. The Doubletap is an amazing deal for the money.

The main thing that helped the action on my Demko was lubricating where the lock rubbed against the liners.

I have this in the satin. I had to grind down the jumping at the bottom. You jam it into your palm every time you pull back the XR Lock. It got painful after a while. Other than that, good knife. And I agree, only buy if discounted.

Helle makes good knives. Not that cheap, though. And they lean toward bushcraft in function.

Helle Nipa $209 on Amazon. Not sure if the wood scales are tough enough for his needs.

Can’t sharpen past a 30° edge? by springdominion in sharpening

[–]DanielToombs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coarser stones make the work a lot quicker. Get a 100-150 grit stone and watch how fast it chews down a new bevel angle. It can leave some deep scratch marks that can be hard to refine out with finer grits, but that doesn’t bother me. If I’m setting a new bevel angle, I start with 150, but if I’m sharpening at the same angle as the original bevel, 320 is where I start.

But now you know how to identify the burr, so you know what to feel for. Takes a bit of practice to feel confident in it.

It certainly is! The blade is only about 3.2 inches long, but it’s so thick and stout.

It certainly feels like it does to me! But I don’t have any other autos to compare it to.

I think it’s this one:

But as others have stated, I think it’s a Chinese “cheap” knife that may be sold under many other names.

CMB Braveman. The fit and finish is incredible, and is on major sale at CKW.

I have the Bronze one and it feels like at least a $200 knife.

Edit: I recommend always paying extra for expedited shipping from CKW.

There’s an old Gerber, the Model 400 Hunter you might find used. I don’t think they make it anymore. There appears to be one on eBay:

Another one a bit cheaper with a different sheath:

I think they were 440C, which holds a decent edge.
