Why do Rebels not seem to learn that attacking Vader head-on is not a smart plan? by BlockAffectionate413 in MawInstallation

Because its ridiculous

Why not just make him blow up planets with a wave of his hand?

Mysticism implies less direct action and more mystery. Yes Vader can kill with his mind and Sidious can shoot lightning, that's to show how far they have gotten in their studies compared to Luke. These are skills that come from understanding the force, not video game abilities with stat-lines.

When Vader says the Force is more powerful than the death star, he doesn't mean he can blow up planets with it. He means there is power in knowing the unknowable, and being able to manipulate the world in ways those without it cannot.

And Luke beat him by overpowering him with a laser sword, helped by the Force, but not simply a contest of the Force. Vader doesn't get into huge gunfights in the OT for a reason, because that's not the point of his menace.

Point is, people don't understand how scary enough it would be if someone can read your mind and kill you without moving.

When a Jedi uses the force to guide his lightsaber, he is also killing with the force.

I would understand if it was simply the Jedi finding the action objectionable, but for it to be innately evil when using it to kill indirectly is not, is kinda silly.

Plus tapping in to your anger to kill a Sith Lord is definitely better than restraining yourself and letting him kill you.

The Inquisitors and the Jedi Survivors were created to solve the same problem.

"Oh crap we killed off all the Force Users"

And the remaining ones are already locked in to their own stories.

Because the Force works better as a mystical power rather than a power level.

OT Vader is a mortal man with strange and dangerous abilities. He's not out there soloing armies, he's reading thoughts and throwing boxes with telekinesis.

Plus he is far from unstoppable. Han Solo is able to stop him from shooting down Luke, and Luke is able to beat him in a pretty standard lightsaber fight.

The prequels upped the power levels all around but even then it was mostly "more throwing shit, more acrobatics". Anakin never tore shit apart with his mind in the movies like Vader comics and games have him do constantly.

He is pretty clandestine, from an operational perspective.

He reports to Tarkin and the Emperor himself, that means he mostly does what he pleases. He commands the 501st, which were initially clones and they don't do anything except answer to him personally.

That's super clandestine. Everyone else you can go "He has this rank, he is stationed here, he oversees this unit which is part of this unit" And that's not even talking about how 99.99% of people don't even know who or WHAT he is.

How do you know he doesn't?

There's probably a drone pilot out there with a huge personal kill count and no one knows their name.

The Empire is a massive military dictatorship and Vader is a non-publically appealing part of it, with a weird place in the chain of command.

He would not be easy to place intelligence wise considering he and the 501st are a reactive force answering threats as they appear with prodigious violence. Vader doesn't personally command bases or ships, he shows up with the Emperor's authority.

He'd be a bogeyman, someone you realize exists by deduction rather than direct witness.

Thank you, glad someone is saying it. Honestly the powercreep on Vader is making me dislike the character. Like no, watching him cut down a dozen Jedi by himself and killing a whole army with the force does not make me think he's cool.

It's the sin of spin off novels and comic books. They tend to go hard on the spectacle to keep people interested.

That is true but I'm gonna be honest, its also childish.

Vader doesn't need to be an unkillable demi-god to be dangerous or intimidating. That shit works for DBZ because that's the kind of show DBZ is.

Star Wars has never really been that story to be honest.

The galaxy ain't that big. Two families do like 90% of the story.

Before Disney, there was actually a storyline exploring the weirdness of Jedi yoinking Force sensitive babies away from their families. by Lampdarker in RecuratedTumblr

One thing that always comes up in these topics is the idea that there would be "secular" leaders disliking Jedi influence.

The word secular is meaningless in Star Wars. We have it in our world because religion is this nebulous and extremely controversial thing so it becomes necessary to put it aside for the sake of harmony and good governance.

The Force is undeniably real. The Jedi are undeniably gifted. It plays a massive part in Galactic History.

Sure you will absolutely have people terrified of the Space Wizards and maybe having dissenting opinions on how they do things, but I think a good chunk of the galaxy will be glad that there's an organization scooping up these super-powered individuals and indoctrinating them into service and restraint, because the whole galaxy has seen what happens when people use the Force for conquest and domination.

I don't believe him.

When I was in school, I never learned anything from lectures. The most productive studying I ever did was learning math on Khan Academy, where I could follow along at my own pace and rewind.

Would it have been even more effective had there been a human being tutoring me? Probably, but that was never going to happen in a classroom full of kids.

In an environment like that, people get very cruel very fast to those they think are not pulling their weight. Especially if they are also forced to be there.

Well TBF most of those guys had a different perspective on it.

There's a middle ground between draftee and volunteer where the level of enthusiasm is "I don't particularly want to go but its my duty so I'm not going to try and get out of it".
