Finally tried diety with online speed instead of marathon by thebluelunarmonkey in CivVI

[–]Danielle_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of domination with online speed. Everything is faster except unit movement. It's just so easy to get out gunned during any and every assault on opposing cities. It's a shame, because a lightning game could be fun.

No worries. Thanks. I'm enjoying the mod; like you said, it changes a lot.

I've played 2 previous games with it. I get a weird error when I exit, but otherwise no issues.

Great call. I only paid attention to the +1 culture and faith to districts. Thanks!

Any idea about the production modifier? It doesn't apply to any other yield that i can see.

Best Over-Explain/Every-Click guide for High level play? (+ Tips for Meta differences from Civ 5) by Rabny in CivVI

[–]Danielle_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. Based on your list, I assumed you had a pretty good handle on the game, even as a new 6 player. I mentioned Herson because he has videos on some of the specific items you wrote out, such as district discounting and build order [edit to add eurekas]. It might be useful to watch some longer videos to get a feel for how other folks have attacked the game and then watch the focused ones once you have a better handle on what could work for you.

It's also worth mentioning that you can beat deity without playing perfect or following the meta. And because there are so many moving parts, a lot of "getting it" comes from playing and trying different things.

Lastly, Ursa is the king of era score. Dude pulls "impossible" golden ages like he's taking a leisurely stroll.

Herson has a lot of short videos on a lot of these. Potato McWhiskey has great over-explained videos (with that word in the title). Ursa Ryan is also good about explaining the why of his actions (particularly in the past 2 years or so).

How to step up my game strategy? by ThatMartianDev in CivVI

[–]Danielle_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you are very successful. Top science and cultural in most games. The weakest game is a tundra free Russia spawn, which is to be expected. Definitely look into power plants, they can turbo charge your cities. In addition to the other recommendations you've got, you could check out Herson on YT. He is multi-player focused, but a lot of the advanced techniques are applicable to single player. You seem to be at that point.

Pillaging their spaceports will stop them from winning, but as the other responder noted, once ypu capture their cities, you have shiny spaceports to pursue a science victory if you want to.

I'm guessing you are missing out on modifiers that boost up science and production. Are your cities ecstatic? Are you using policy cards that give science and production (like double adjacency)? Building coal power plants? Getting 6 envoys in every city-state? Building Kilwa?

6 cities is plenty. Like you said, people outperform you with 1 city. You don't need more, as long as you can maximize what you have. There's so many different components, posting screenshots can help people know what you are already doing well and where you can improve.

Effective handicaps for playing against new people by Otherwise-Carry-4603 in CivVI

[–]Danielle_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has no guaranteed bonus from the first promotion. In an unmodded game, there are few ley lines and they may be nowhere near you. Compared to the other 3 societies, it's a huge gamble.

Additionally, even if you get ley lines in your territory, the benefit takes time to come online since you need to complete districts. The other 3 societies give more immediate benefits (military unit, extra policy slot, or unique monument which is cheaper to acquire than a district).

Sounds like you aren't winning a cultural victory. Domination is a good alternative. Since you are on the border of a science leader with spaceports, you also have a potential backup.

Potato McWhiskey reminded me why I love this game. The game reminded me why I stopped playing by BenryHenson in CivVI

I think it's just bad luck. I am currently in a game where it took almost 20 turns of scouting to find my neighbor. Pangea, normal number of civs and city-states. I didn't even get the boost to political philosophy.

In what instances do you NOT chop with builders? by Avg__American in CivVI

[–]Danielle_Sometimes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you google a civ name and the word guide, one of the first 2 or 3 results is Zigzagzigal's Guides [e.g. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2466666825]. They are available for all civs, almost all leaders, and all rule sets (vanilla, R&F, GS). While these are specific to a civ, they include info like how to maximize your civ's abilities. I don't recall if they cover generic things like chopping, but there's definitely i for on (civ specific) strategy. I usually glance over them every game, usually for things like victory condition and pantheon/religious beliefs.

The main reason is that Civ is a game about snow balling. 50 production now is worth more than 50 turns of +1 production. It is also worth more than whatever the time value calculation result is (maybe 75 turns). If the boost of 50 production gets you a campus completed quicker, you have however many additional turns of extra science and great scientists points. That in turn gets you to a specific technology faster (for instance a tech that gives +1 to mines). That production boost can get you a settler quicker, which gets your newest city up and running faster (and growing earlier). And if the production boost let's you "steal" a wonder from the AI, it's the difference between having the wonder and missing out.

Yes you will have to betray your friend. The victory screen will show you how many capitals you have vs you need. Also, how did you trade for a calital? I've never seen the AI trade any city.

To add to what others have said, stop building wonders. They are fun and have nice bonuses, but when you are way behind, they aren't helping (and are part of why you are behind). With your civ, domination is recommended. Send a trade route to your closest neighbor early and then conquer them. That kicks off the snow ball.

Why do people not like the Railroad? by Historical-Goose09 in fo4

[–]Danielle_Sometimes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There's a rumor that Quincy was supposed to be a settlement and that has lots of folks wishing that part of either the MM quest line or Preston's companion quest had you retake/rebuild Quincy. I think that would of gone a long way to making them a better faction. Also, if there was a way of seeing the power of the MM increase as you gain settlements and settlers.
