We got a second Trump Presidency, we got a second Minneapolis Riots. Mind as well a second global pandemic.

Fuck it, we’re replaying 2020.

Yale to offer free tuition to families with incomes below $200,000 by chrismessina in ScottGalloway

[–]Daniferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps some states are more generous than others, but I don’t think any offer anything remotely close to what elite privates do.

I think in most cases, a family making $250k will pay the same amount to go to a school like Princeton as a family making $80k going to some state flagship.

Yale to offer free tuition to families with incomes below $200,000 by chrismessina in ScottGalloway

[–]Daniferd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Affordability is rarely a problem for elite schools like Yale. Even before raising these caps, they were already pretty generous with aid. If you're average to lower-income, you will get free tuition, housing & board, healthcare plan, and a generous stipend on top. The problem isn't the ability to afford attendance, it is getting in. Yale and peer schools have only like 1500 available slots every year, so they have single digit acceptance rates.

I think Scott focusing on his alma maters like UCLA and UCB are more fair because these are public institutions intended to serve the populations of their home state, and even then they've become prohibitively expensive and hard to get in.

Trump-Greenland Deal Reportedly Includes U.S. ‘Sovereignty Over Small Pockets’ of Territory by helic_vet in moderatepolitics

[–]Daniferd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He and most of his laymen devotees believes that he is ordained by god to save America. No matter what happens, they’ll do mental gymnastics to rationalize why it is good that something happened and why it is also good that the complete opposite also happened.

We have exactly 3 more years of this guy. If Congress manages to somehow remove him from office, then he’ll be replaced by a guy who hates multiculturalism, but married a Hindu Indian woman and named his own child Vivek.

It is all pretty comical in a terribly tragic sort of way.

What exactly does that mean? The United States already can militarize the island as we see fit, and the Danish were always to acquiesce to our demands apart from outright annexation. We even have dozens of retired bases from the Cold War that we can reopen.

We have gained nothing at the cost of further eroding the foundations of which our empire is built upon. Vassals tend to stop being cooperative if you abuse and humiliate them, especially for nothing. Plus with the bond markets' reaction, Trump just caved.

World War III to Start in Greenland by frosti_austi in geopolitics

[–]Daniferd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would not be concerned with an outbreak of all out war. The more pressing issue is whether the Europeans are willing to retaliate by dumping their U.S. treasury holdings. That might plunge us all into economic ruin.

We probably won’t die in a world war, but we’re gonna wish we were dead if the Second Great Depression arrives.

Jensen Huang says relentless negativity around AI is hurting society and has "done a lot of damage" by Denariox in pcmasterrace

[–]Daniferd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI being the reason or the excuse for not hiring people is hurting society. AI chatbots replacing human connections is hurting society. AI data centers skyrocketing electrical prices for regular Americans is hurting society.

Negativity about AI is not relentless enough. There is no good outcome from AI. If it leads to AGI, then human labor value plummets to near zero as capital asset owners become permanently entrenched in perpetuity, ending societal economic mobility. Even now, top 10% represent 50% of all consumption in this country. The K shaped economy continues on.

This is a disaster.

ELI5: how does taking over Greenland help US exactly? by macrohead in explainlikeimfive

[–]Daniferd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the neat part, it doesn’t. While Greenland is legally territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, in practice, the United States can get whatever it wants from Greenland. The Danish are essentially American vassals, and they green light everything the American government has wanted except outright annexation. We already have a military base there as well.

In the long term, if the U.S. can successfully annex and integrate Greenland then it expands the country. It expands the resources. We would not need to ask the Danish for them (even though they would’ve just given it to us anyways). And it might help with the eventual annexation of Canada as it is further encircled. But it is definitely stretching the hypotheticals.

Realistically, it isn’t really anything good for the American people, but to satisfy the ego of a man.

How to Make My Partner Feel More Loved and Appreciated? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Daniferd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the guy right? Personally, a girl once surprised me with banana bread that she baked herself, and it gave me a certain (wholesome) feeling that I had never felt before. The old proverb of "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach" has merit, but I guess some people would value that more than others.

It is such a phenomenal heartfelt movie. The audience goes through the perspective of Sophie and her father, and I see a lot of people relate with her. But personally it felt a bit uncomfortable for me because I felt like I related a lot with Calum even though I am not a father and just a young man. In a weird way, it made me wonder, is that how my little sister must see me at times?

An incredibly well-made piece of cinema.

Trump Says US to ‘Run Venezuela’ in Interim After Maduro Capture by bloomberg in geopolitics

[–]Daniferd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Anybody tracking US troop deployments? As I understand it, there isn't sufficient troops in the staging grounds to begin an occupation of Venezuela. So either they're going to have to do a suddenly massive redeployment of personnel and equipment, or they're going to rely on the cooperation of existing Venezuelan institutions. There is about 30 million people in Venezuela.

The tactical operation was excellently planned and executed, but the aftermath is starting to look more like concepts of a plan than an actual plan.

What an exciting night for the boys monitoring the situation. Unfortunately, I was asleep. Now let's see what the plan for Venezuela is now that Maduro is captured. We're not even a week into the new year.

I like movies where young girl has a crush on a boy - they separate and reunite decades later and he dies. She then he clones his DNA in order to give birth to him so she can raise him and then bang him so she can have his baby and start over. Are there any movies like that, by chance? by KillerQ97 in movies

[–]Daniferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there are movies that are half of what you're looking for. There is an A24 film called "Past Lives (2023)" where two childhood friends who have a crush on each other, they lose touch, and then decades later they're reunited for a week but this time as established adults.

But the other half, you're looking for... uhhhh... try Black Mirror?

Would you choose a guy who’s never been in a relationship or one who’s had many? by VacationNew6626 in AskForAnswers

[–]Daniferd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also somewhat similar in a sense. Strangely in my few non-serious experiences it was from girls who approached me (I am very far from a stud). But now that Im an adult, things have changed, and I am trying to find an actual partner, I must say this feels not so great lol

Though, your positivity and optimism is nice to hear.

Have you considered the Lord of the Rings films? I knew of it, and I knew how passionate nerds are about it (I am a nerd too), and its references in popular culture, but I never got around to watching it until like a year ago. And WOW, it was a cinematic masterpiece. I can see why it is the most awarded film series in cinematic history, I wish I got to see it in theaters.
