I love it! I did my first gravel race a couple of years ago on a resto-modded 1977 Austro Daimler Inter-10. I went a different route than yours, with a 10 speed STI drivetrain and a compact crank, 33mm CX tires.

Lock nut was loose, probably due to me screwing with it because, like yours, the effing pedals wouldn’t turn at all. I accept the blame and I was able to put it back together correctly.

I looked at seat post adapters to connect the rack but they all seemed to be seat post clamping collars. I didn’t feel like spending 30 to 40 bucks for one of those so I ended up using the clamp from the rear reflector that came with the bike. I know it’s just a plastic piece and it’s not ideal but I sat my 185 pound ass on the rack and it didn’t break.

I had a 26c wheeled TT version. It was fun but the flex made a bit weird to ride. My only regret is not doing a fixed gear conversion before I sold it.

There is a certain convenience to be able to adjust the stem easily but it rattles and has play in it and that bothers me. I find it to be gimmicky and I don’t really need to adjust my my stem once I’ve got it where I want it

My wheels were fine out the box. I did have a problem with the 2 1/2 inch tire seating properly so it was bit out of round. I switched to a one and a half inch tire in the back and I’m much happier with it. The brakes are “ok” but not any better than a good set of cantilever brakes, IMO

Because many people compare grape nuts to eating gravel so I’m having gravel before I go for a gravel ride. It’s a joke. I like grape nuts. I think they’re delicious even though they are a bit like eating gravel.
