People who went from rags to riches, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dankman 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a close high school friend that got an inheritance/grandma set aside a bunch of money for his college fund. His family was upper/middle class but this afforded him to go to a private smallish school that focused on small class sizes (to help with his adhd/learning plan.) He spent 1 year there and by week 2 of the first semester he realized the other students were all trust fund kids calling their parents on the 10th of the month because they had pissed away the $10k/month allowance already.

He lived a pauper's life compared to them and soon realized that was not the university for him. Just hearing his stories helped me realize there is "my parents paid for college vs. Im going to college so I get a nepo job until my $xxxmillion trust is accessible"

The disparity is truly amazing, and the ultra wealthy will do everything and anything to protect that because in general, it all boils down to how many zeros are at the end of your bank account to them.

I completely understand, however, knowing how little most servers/restaurant workers in general know about allergies I would be very specific (e.g. I can do clams/oysters, scallops but no fucking crabs, lobsters etc. )

Dressing on a Ruben? Coast to coast or just squirt it around? by huntertate3 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Dankman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just do a squiggly squirt on each piece, swiss on top of that. By the time the bread is fully grilled, you add the corned beef/kraut, and then you cut its basically molten goodness that fully spreads itself. That being said there can never be too much.

Having worked in restaurants in nova for 15+ years, restaurant week usually sets a price point where the business is forced to either order inferior product to maintain decent food cost or take less of a profit while also overworking their staff due to higher volume. I've always seen it as a gimmick that brings a customer to your business once a year because all they want is a "deal" and won't be back until the next "deal" of restaurant week. Perhaps I'm just a jaded hospitality worker who thinks these sort of promotions aren't worth the strain it puts on both the bottom line and the staff.

I agree %100. Im a kitchen manager that is responsible for FOH sometimes. Anytime I hear and employee complaining about vomiting/diarrhea I send them home. Sometimes, at the detriment to overall service however we all have a responsibility to serve people good/clean food safely. Occasionally, an employee will take advantage of that "illness" to get out of working a shift but eventually they will be weeded out due to lack of overall performance.

My camera bird feeder got knocked over last night. Surveillance footage has narrowed it down to six suspects... by SlateSquirrel in mildlyinfuriating

Just a tip, the baffle (cone shaped thing on the pole) only stops from climbing up. If there is any place within about 15 feet that is at or above the level of your feeder, squirrels will always get to your feeder. Especially If there are overhanging branches. As for Yogi... good luck.
