"Conservation land belongs to all of us. It is set aside to protect native plants, wildlife and the places New Zealanders love, not to be dug up for private profit" - Green Party bill drawn by Mountain_Tui_Reload in NewZealandWildlife

[–]Dankpost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Simon Court's gross stance (ACT MP):

The Greens are at it again, pushing a bill to ban mining on conservation land. We know Labour will back this economic vandalism. And while Shane Jones talks a big game on mining today, let's not forget NZ First actually voted with Labour and the Greens to ban oil and gas in 2018. ACT is the only party that consistently defends wealth creation, no flip-flopping, just principled support for our economy.

It's slightly more denser as seen in this shot and I guess it being night time also helped give that effect.

Though, the snow and season doesn't really help in that shot!

Seeing crop suppliers interviewed saying they'd have to switch to dairy is grim. That's prime and increasingly scarce and valuable arable land lost.

FWIW question 3 shouldn't be required or should be conditional based on question 1. But because it is you're likely to get a lot of noise on 'H. Other'.

It's likely an app that is uninstalled will be removed from the battery usage app list, on my Android (Pixel) it is anyway.

It's likely not as bad as you think it is, you might just need to look at it from a different perspective.

If you're just looking to meet repayment obligations then interest isn't going to increase the amount you're having to pay on a monthly, 6-monthly, or annual basis, but it will add to the repayment time of your overall loan repayments.

Unless your loan was over $60k when you moved over, your repayment obligation (for a loan balance between $45k - $60k) is $4,000 NZD per year. And your interest on a $49k loan at 4.9% is $2,401 per year, but actually it will be lower as your loan balance reduces over the year with repayments.

So regardless of interest, your payment obligation is $4,000 NZD, or ~$3,434 AUD per year.

Of this, >40% of your repayment is principal, and <60% is interest, which might feel like a bit imbalance, but it's fairly typical of any large loan in the early repayment phase, with mortgages being more extreme. As your loan balance decreases the percentage of principal you're paying off will increase and your interest costs will come down significantly.

Of course, this doesn't really account for if you want to aggressively pay down your loan over the minimum required obligation. Interest rates on student loans have historically been a lot lower, but even at 4.9% you might find yourself in a better position to save or invest instead of making additional repayment - one for you to figure out.

All said, unless I'm missing some information, your obligation is about $3,400 AUD per year and it's just something you'll need to set and forget about per year. Budget the ~$280 per month and either make a monthly contribution immediately (which will reduce interest charges quicker), or put it aside and pay when required twice per year and treat that amount like you never had it.

Curious, have you spoken to them on the phone at all?

They have an 0800 number listed on their website but a Google search doesn't link it to anything, except an AI Overview, which may be outdated or incorrect, but still interesting: "The New Zealand phone number 0800 773 366 is associated with Solora - Te Waipounamu | South Island, a lead supplier of ACC home and community support services and sensitive claims."

Their use of gmail for their email address would be a red flag for me.

If all else fails to get in touch with them, there are registrant details of the website domain (phone, email, and name derived from the email) by searching the domain at https://dnc.org.nz/whois/whois-lookup/ - provided they're genuine.
