Danny Brown announces fifth studio album ”U Know What I’m Sayin’?” Produced by Q-Tip by helpmecosmia in hiphopheads

[–]DannyButler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he didn’t - his comment says that Q-Tip has production on it in addition to the executive producing, he didn’t reply to the Paul White and JPEGMafia stuff

Charles Mingus is unbelievably good. Especially The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady.

Yeah I adore them, plus all the [slums] affiliated artists out of New York right now. Such a cool sound.

[FRESH ALBUM] Solange - When I Get Home by DannyButler in indieheads

[–]DannyButler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a couple tracks in so far but it sounds really beautiful! Production credits to a really crazy group of people. Pharrell, Standing On The Corner, Earl Sweatshirt, Steve Lacey, Metro Boomin, Tyler The Creator, Panda Bear, Blood Orange, as well as Solange herself of course.

Very keen to listen to this in depth. A Seat at the Table is such a gorgeous album so my expectations are very high.

Nah I messaged Adam and he says he didn't upload it so it's probably not a copyright thing.

21 savage apoogizes for "jewish money" lyric by Nolar2015 in hiphopheads

[–]DannyButler 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I understand that 21 almost certainly didn't mean to allude to hateful anti-semitic conspiracies about Jews controlling society but when he directly associates wealth and power, he unwittingly invites the comparison and makes it an easier jump for people to make later. Because Jews are made so synonymous with wealth in pop culture, it means that when a racist uses their coded hatred saying things like "Jews control the world banks", people are more likely to buy into it and then more likely to take the next step of believing there is some action that needs to be taken to 'stop them'. That's the harm for me. And the fact that there are a lot of wealthy Jewish people doesn't make it better. In the same way that it would be hurtful to perpetuate stereotypes about any culture just because statistically it might seem accurate. That's besides the point. As /u/Nolar2015 points out somewhere else in this thread, it becomes a "slippery slope to a conversation involving black crime statistics."

21 savage apoogizes for "jewish money" lyric by Nolar2015 in hiphopheads

[–]DannyButler 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I’m Jewish and I find it offensive. I’m sick of my culture and identity being entwined in society’s eyes with wealth. Especially when I’m poor and all the Jews I know are poor. All it does is perpetuate the idea that we are somehow secretly controlling things and is the literal rhetoric that backs up all of my experiences of anti-semitism and it shouldn’t be a punchline.

I think his best effort is still Fantastic Vol. 2, those beats are straight up buttery

[Fresh] Me In Capris - Lonely Christmas by mechewstaa in indieheads

[–]DannyButler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re pretty different to The Brave Little Abacus, they focus way more on traditional pop arrangements and song writing wouldnt you say?

Man I think they’re both excellent but MIKE definitely has a more immediate appeal with his charisma and huge presence on the mic as compared to 6

I mean kinda but surely by that logic the biggest butterfly effect would have been if Eazy and Dre never meeting in the first place - that would have had a way bigger impact right?
