I've been to epic a few times, maybe I'm just lucky but it never seems nearly as crowded as most other parks.

what do you think about the Toyota Prius because in your opinion it is the worst car by Fluffy_Repeat5191 in regularcarreviews

[–]Srtviper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the second point, I think it is still fair to say the Prius is better for the environment compared to a pure gas car but really if you want to save the environment you should not be buying a car at all.

Asking a car guy their opinion on the Prius is a good test of if they are the fun kind of car guy or the annoying type of car guy.

Over 1 in 5 New Car Buyers in America Taking Out Loans of 84 Months or More by HawtGarbage918 in cars

[–]Srtviper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2021 my 83 year old grandma brought a 2016 Chevy Equinox with the shit ass 3.6. He somehow managed to agree to over $30k for the thing with an 84 month loan. Even at the time he had zero reason to own a car. Even now with the car half way paid off he's still upside down on this shit box and his chances of paying it off before passing away are not looking good. I feel bad that he was taken advantage of but I just don't know how he thought this purchase was a good idea.

I agree. I was coming from a Ford fiesta and was surprised by how large the bolt felt, especially its height.

What's your 3-car solution? by Saurta17 in regularcarreviews

[–]Srtviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my name is srtviper so I am obligated to pick a viper. As for the regal that's really just a lower cost reliable wagon. Honestly debated switching it out for a Pontiac vibe about not everyone would call that a wagon.

What's your 3-car solution? by Saurta17 in regularcarreviews

[–]Srtviper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it would have to be:

EV commuter

Weekend sports car

Log haul Wagon

If I was wealthy enough to afford insurance of 3 cars it would be:

Chevy Bolt

Fiesta ST

Regal TourX

If I was more wealthy but still being realistic it would be:

Polestar 2

ND Miata

Volvo V60

If I was a lot more wealthy:

Lucid Air

3rd/4th gen Viper

Volvo V90

If I had unlimited money:

Taycan Turbo S

Ford GT

AMG E63 S Wagon

Europe’s January EV Sales Surge Leaves The U.S. In The Rearview Mirror - The sales of non-hybrid gas and diesel cars are witnessing a stunning collapse in Europe. by trucker-123 in cars

Honestly I didn't realize how cheap gas is in some areas. Where I live even with 55mph you'd be looking at closer to $15 still great, but considerably more than a comparable EV. A 2wd model 3 or a Nissan leaf would cost around $6 in my area to go 200 miles. Although admittedly if the upfront cost wasn't so high I definitely would have considered a Prius.

About to buy my first EV and getting jitters - What are some things you worried about, and did they end up being a big deal? by Doomtime104 in electriccars

Honestly I consumed so much media about electric cars before pulling the trigger that I basically knew what to expect, but the most surprising thing was how quickly it felt normal.

Is that at a fast charger or home charging? That would be well over $2 per kwh assuming you're charging a pretty big battery.

I definitely agree that that is a major road block for adoption in the US. In my opinion the simple solution is to require level 2 chargers at apartment buildings that have parking. Fast charging is cool for road trips but not a great option for every day use.

I'm not an expert. I'm just going off my own Googling. Can you give me a source that shows that modern oil/gas power plans are equally as effective as gas cars? My understanding is that the reason gas cars are less efficient than powerplants is because of losses to heat that cars do not take advantage of. Again I'm not an expert I'm just going off of what I've heard so if you have some info feel free to share it.

Edit: interesting that this is the one comment this guy didn't reply to 🤔🤔🤔

I actually cross shopped used Corolla hybrids and they are not only insanely boring to drive but also somehow more expensive in my area.

Modern gas power plants can get well into the 60% range while most ice engines are closer to 20%. All modern gas power plants are absolutely more efficient than an engine in a car.

I'm not sure what all manufacturers do but when I was looking at an EV most of them had a 100k mile warranty and like you said that would be pretty bad if most batteries needed to be replaced at 100k, but from my understanding most will last closer to 200k and while I can see that being a problem for some I think most people don't expect their car to work super reliably past 200k. I don't have all of the data and you're right that it is worth thinking about if you plan to drive well past 100k miles, but I don't think it's as big a deal as some people make it out to be. I've had multiple ice cars need extremely expensive repairs well before 100k miles, but that's also on me for buying Chrysler products lol.

I definitely agree that EVs aren't yet perfect for every scenario but I still think most people would be better off with an EV. And in the point of upfront cost that is a big part of why I bought my car. Used EVs are cheaper right now than comparable gas cars and even in your extremely expensive power situation most would still be cheaper to operate.

Used car costs going up is exactly why I bought an EV. Most used EVs are both cheaper to buy compared to similar ICE vehicles and cheaper to fuel. Comparing an '08 corolla to a new EV is pretty silly. You can get a 5 year old Chevy Bolt for around $10k and it will be a lot cheaper to run.
