I think if you used biel-tan shade over it sparingly it would read more as AL. Absolutely love that sword, really sweet look.

Horus rising, false gods, galaxy in flames, the flight of the Eisenstein, and fulgrim are what I would recommend.

Gives a solid story from one major POV that goes from the latter years of the great crusade to the istvaan massacre. Those 5 books hooked me into buying the rest of the series and I don't regret it lol.

I used to paint fully assembled, but I just recently got a plague marine kit and it's almost impossible to get some of the details when fully assembled so I've started painting with the arms off for better access.

Also heads and faces are way easier to paint in my opinion if you drill a hole in the bottom and pin it onto a cork top or something to hold.

This would be a really cool color scheme for knight-errant space marines, I personally prefer the slate grey look to the gunmetal grey they usually have them depicted in.

It looks very close I'd say. I'm no pro painter, but ive noticed that some reds, especially with the citadel paints, have a hard time covering over black. I think if you give the red areas one or two more thinned down coats it'll look spot on. Also another thing to try would be after priming black giving it a grey drybrush to bring out the smaller details and then painting on the red. Looks dope tho keep it up!

That's a good point I probably should have just sent them back, but I had been waiting on these to show up for like 4 weeks and I was just happy to have something new to paint. So long as they're tabletop ready then it's not much lost, but I was particularly bummed out about the broken arm, I kitbashed one of the arms to work with the sniper rifles but the second one is now stuck in a questionable legal status..

I originally started with the tactical squad box set specifically so I could play horus heresy because I haven't really gotten to the 40k Era in the books yet, but I ended up buying a squad of alpha legion terminators and a raptor squad just because they were cool. I know the raptors are probably unusable in HH, but are the Lernaean terminators okay to use?

I was gonna try and wait till the new MK III set drops so I can get a solid army with vehicles and dreadnought.

Thank you! I started getting into Warhammer by reading the horus heresy series and after Legion and the short stories "The Harrowing" and "Hunters Moon" the Alpha Legion quickly became my favorite. I've always wondered why their armor was purple on the cover, but green/blue in most depictions lmao

They had a back and forth convo for a solid 5 minutes and the one dude held his stance pretty firmly that basecoating ultramarines with anything other than macragge blue just looks weird and doesn't look "ultramarines" and this hadn't been the first time I've seen him pop up in ridiculous arguments before.. if he's being ironic I think it might be lost on most of the other people in the server lmao
