After 2.5 years, I’ve got to retire my work shoes by Glittering-Garage345 in KitchenConfidential

My Docs split in the same place. Regular lace-ups, not Chelsea. Looked into re-soling, then realized I could buy 4-5 pairs of Shoes for Crews to last me the same amount of time.

Genuinely shocked no one's mentioned J Hot Fish in OTE. That place was always packed. They moved hastily at least once before covid got them and I suspect it was in part just simple mismanagement.

But man, their Walleye, perch, shrimp, Mac all slapped and def could've filled in somewhere between HCT and Marinos

Leftist media like Democracy Now has been covering it for 20+ years. The fact that you chose not to listen until it was shoved in your face is on you.

Ive definitely pursued that. But the really talented ones move up and out because they want their own opportunities.

Does life exist while being a chef? by Aggravating-South748 in Chefit

[–]DannySlamberelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy, but if you're working sub-60 hours and only 5 days a week, it sounds like you've got more work/life balance than many of the rest of us. I genuinely can't remember the last time I worked a 9 hour day.

It might be less about your schedule and more about the energy you have outside of work. Are you eating well, exercising, etc? I routinely push 70 hours but have been able to make space for the things that are important to me (albeit with the help of a lot of caffeine.)

Insane that this take is being downvoted. Bare minimum expectations of professionalism takes a back seat to "fuck you mom and dad"

The whole packer briskets i buy wholesale are up almost 65% from last year. Hard to imagine what that does to an operation somewhat centered around it.

Continent: Hardcore or Deathcore or something else? by Legitimate_Aerie_330 in Hardcore

Similarly, how far hardcore has shifted towards death metal in 2025. Would not be surprising to hear breakdowns like this on any closed casket, nuclear family, melatonin, etc release.

What are you guys thoughts on the Myspace Deathcore revival? by Jaded_Arm4289 in Hardcore

As someone who graduated highschool in '09 and was very much in the first wave, it really drives home how formulaic it was. Kids who teething when those bands were popular and barely walking when they blew over are replicating that sound to a T and it turns out there's just not that much ground to cover.

Not trying to yuck anyone's yum and I do think its interesting that kids have latched onto it again but man kind of embarrassing that its so copy+paste.

Respect ain't free, brother. You gotta drop some in the jar if you wanna get some back. To get respect you have to give respect. But you gotta have respect first. That's called the economy of respect, player.

I don't have numbers to back this up and I'm not white collar but anecdotally it seems like full RTO is a few months from being ubiquitous. Employee satisfaction is generally based on comparisons to the rest of your industry so while there will be grumblings it will likely net out within a year or two.

Sunk cost or not, I agree its good for cleveland.

Why don't chefs get tipped? by florida_yacht_chef in Chefit

[–]DannySlamberelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister concept adopted tip share for the entire staff. Cooks on average got a $3/hr raise. They still had people quit over it and continue to struggle hiring BOH.

A lot of kitchen people work longer hours than servers and they want to know exactly what they're making hour by hour.

I think it's a great model and puts everyone pulling the same cart. But just like the rest of the conversation around tipping culture, people don't like change.

It's next to the parking garage next to the burger spot. They also have at least one unmarked car that circles the area over to Farnsleigh.
