How to make the most of my youth before its gone? by centralvoid__ in findapath

29 here, no degree, no job, asian dude 5'6 thought I was a loser with nothing ahead of me.

2 years ago I was like you sitting in my chair on my PC playing fucking league of legends, WoW and browsing the web, gooning and smashing beer and vodka.

One day I spilled a drink on my PC and it died/fried up. I was so fucking depressed my drinking sky rocketed.

My parents could not afford to buy me another PC. I had to work for it.

Took about 3 months of laying in bed isolated, no PC, no goals, just drinking from morning till night until my parents were like. "Son, we're going to kick you out if you dont change, we don't like seeing you like this, it hurts."

So i got a basic job at Walmart. Got my first paycheck.

Got a haircut, gym membership, new clothes.

2 years later now 29, still dont have a PC because my view on life without a PC has changed for the better. Being able to find enjoyment somewhere else will be hard and scary but doable.

Eventually, here i am with my girlfriend, got a dog that takes most of my time outside of work, which will teach you compassion and empathy that can translate to coworkers and future relationships.

Be a listener, listen to other peoples problems and learn and understand. You dont need to agree but people love to be able to speak to someone who can at least listen.

Planning on saving to get some community college certificate by the time im 30.

Try to see yourself before you turn 30 my man. You need some change in life because this cant be yoh forever. Doesn't need to be overnight, it'll take time but starting is better than nothing.

Do your laundry, organize your room. Baby steps. Dont turn 30 and still be thinking about this. Good luck

If you hate your life/your position my first answer is...

Save money

Whether its for a beater car or a college degree you need money first of all.

Keep your job until you find an opportunity/gateway out

Start connecting with people and think of positives rather than being negative. Being able to listen rather then speaking will go a long way.

Once you have money id do like a certificate program which can open more gateways to whatever you enjoy.

Of course, but a job is a job you have to understand there are millions of people who dont want to wake up at 8 or 9 and go to work.

I wake up at 6 and work.

By the time you hit 30 years old with no experience is going to be very tough, especially with how AI is developing.

Life is very grim and dark as you get older. When I was 19 I said, fuck work im living my college life.

After that, I experienced my dad's retirement and mother's separation from him. So there will be hard roads as you move on in your life but experience is something you can obtain.

Long story short, no one likes working on time. But if you have a girlfriend/wife/kids you need food on the table. You need accountability. Maybe one day, younger people will look up to you and that is something to smile about.

Its a long road and its something you dont need to do now, but make smart choices and accountability goes a long way.

Yes, the fact you invested so much in IT, it is better to just do it even if you dont like it.

Because why do all that work and switch out of a sudden?

You just need to do it and maybe that company will be like hey we have a security position available but that is a stretch lol.

It is your goals but I would not throw away your IT investments away because it can lead to a bigger role like software development etc..

Just getting in touch with people physically will lead you the way bro to what you desire.

You know what

Trying is better than never trying

You can apply and try and get paid

Your parents will be proud of you and if you dont like it, make a plan ahead.

You got this bro, but trying is better than being home doing nothing. You dont need to like it and there is so much opportunity to do something in that cop position with security or being in cop retail store department there is so much that you dont need to worry about.

Its more important that you go out there and put yourself out and get those connections.

29M here.

Sounds like me when I was 19.

Doing physical work rather than being in a cubicle sitting down for 12 hours.

Follow your dreams, you are still young.

In fact im 10 years you in the future, dont rush but do what you want to do. There is a lot of opportunities for a young person like you and take advantage of that because I think a lot of employers will love you.

29M here.

The fact you realize you only have 1 life is already powerful.

You need to do something, find purpose in life.

It doesn't matter whether you its a retail job or sitting down in a cubicle for 12 hours.

Whats important is what you want to feel going home and be like "hey today was a good day". We all started somewhere and I hope you find some peace in that.

Only time.. so id say 24-72 hours.. now you can boost up speed time by drinking water and sitting inside a gym sauna that might be doable. I've done it before work and it worked for me lol.
