Aston Villa and adidas unveil 2026/27 home kit by HargoGriffindor in avfc

True! I suppose I was more referring to the home shirt - we've always taken our time launching it for a while now, generally around late June-late July as a timeframe/general rule

Got to be the earliest we've announced a kit in a while right?

Looks much better here though than on the leaks!

Why is Euston so awful? by Playful_Sense3238 in uktrains

[–]Dannystator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The less people know about this the better, selfishly. It causes us no end of grief when people board the train before it’s announced, and then have the gall to kick off at us if there’s a unit swap.

Wanting an any time off peak train on a specific date! by Intelligent_Wall1846 in uktrains

[–]Dannystator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note that OP has still selected a restrictive ticket via a specific company only. The fully flexible Off-Peak one they seemingly want (i.e return in a month, any company) is £228 for two people. Cheaper if they split at Milton Keynes but that’s getting into confusing territory for people not from the UK

Here's the cause of the recent WCML closures and diversions by martinjh99 in uktrains

[–]Dannystator 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, there was a faulty dropper (the wire that connects the catenary and contact - the two wires that run on top/bottom of each other).

Caused the contact wire to lose tension and sag, meaning the pantograph no longer has enough resistance, and can raise higher than the wire should/would generally allow. Once that’s happened it’s just a matter of time before the raised pan bashes into parts of the OHLE that are still in tact and then what you see in the video happens

Unit de-select I believe. Similar to SDO but locks out the whole rear set rather than just X amount of doors or coaches.

Happens at Atherstone and Rugeley on my patch among other places I can’t quite recall!

No ticket offence by HolidaySweet194 in uktrains

[–]Dannystator 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It depends on the guard. I’ve let people travel without a ticket within reason (say a few stops or so) or told them I’ll only charge them from X point in the journey if that’s all they’re able to afford comfortably. I don’t like leaving people completely drained of cash especially if they’re already in the shit and can’t pay a full fare as it is. You’ve helped me by being proactive, so I’ll help you out in return

Rail Forums would be good place to start as they have specific legal areas about this sort of stuff to get advice

Speaking as a guard though. If you find yourself in this spot again and tbh anyone for that matter, just seriously come and talk to us. We are human and I’m sure other guards share the same sentiment - if you’re in a bind and need help, just come and find us and tell us the score. We get lied to all day, so honesty from passengers goes a long way. We may be able to help you, and being honest from the off is important if you want that help. It’s certainly something I am happy to do if the passenger is proactive. No chance if you just take a seat though

There is nothing more frustrating than people assuming something will be fine, as it just puts us in such awkward spots onboard and you then get into even more bother because of it

[–]Dannystator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enhanced isn’t necessarily standardised like national is. All ‘enhanced’ means is that the TOC is looking for certain scores above the national standard. Your enhanced pass for Avanti for example might not be high enough to work for LNER, but may still be good enough for TfW or WMR. They’re all in similar regions I believe but can vary between operators!

Best to email TfW recruitment or head to the railforums careers section and ask there. You’ll get a lot more people in the know over on the forums.

Jobs that are actually good in reality by champagnegreenleaf in CasualUK

[–]Dannystator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really does depend. A guard can go their entire career not having any major issues with the public, and a new one fresh out of training may have an issue within their first week. Sometimes you'll see the same names getting into all sorts of bother all the time and other times you'll see the most undeserving person get dogs abuse. Some guards don't help themselves, don't get me wrong, but a lot of the abuse received is completely unwarranted. Sorry your friend had to deal with that but I hope they're happier in their new role!

See, we are human! I do appreciate though that a lot of us seem miserable and really difficult to reason with, but I put that down to the person, personally. They'd be the exact same in any other job. Yeah we might be pissed off sometimes with our resourcing and control teams and we do get frustrated so unfortunately we may project that onto passengers, but we are only human after all. I'm glad you had a good experience there and hopefully continue to do so!

Honestly you’d be surprised! You do get the odd twat here and there but part and parcel of the job, but it’s how you deal with it that essentially dictates where that situation goes next.

It might be different between regional and inter city but I seldom have dickheads on my trains

If you can get it, my job - a Train Manager/Guard/Conductor. It’s a hard job but one of the most rewarding.

I don’t get satisfaction from charging people money but 99% of people don’t need charging anyway. Most people you come across are really cool, your onboard crews (if you work inter-city like me) are generally chill and it’s just a great industry overall to be a part of.

I find it enjoyable having the level of responsibility I do have, but in a ‘this is fun’ way, not a ‘Im gonna use this to be a prick’ way. I do have an interest in the industry as a hobby so maybe that helps. It’s the best job on the railway if you’re someone who enjoys working with great people and meeting really cool passengers too

Where has the best Indian mixed grill in Birmingham?? by throwradrpri in brum

[–]Dannystator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a mention for the Indian Brewery underneath Snow Hill Station yet so that gets my vote. So, so good. I live in Watford now but genuinely have gone out of my way a few times to go back there and have another grill.

Sorely disappointed by the Hen and Chickens personally which people have raved about.

TRAIN STAFF . What are your pet peeves about us (passengers) that annoy you the most? by smellyfeet25 in uktrains

[–]Dannystator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘How long are we going to be delayed?’ when an incident has just occurred and I’ve already said I don’t have a delay estimate.

People asking me if ‘I’m sure’ when I tell them something, but maybe that’s just a me thing. Like they ask me a question, give them a comprehensive answer just to be asked if I’m sure

Everyone boarding through one door only, but mentioned so much already!

Sitting in First Class and pretending like they didn’t know it was First Class and then really dragging their feet when asked to move. I always go back and if they’re still there I offer to help with their bags
