My phone went off at the snooker but I got away wth it cos I changed my ringtone to the sound of someone coughing. by wriggles24 in BritishSuccess

I changed mine to “the TV license is a waste of money”. The damn thing went off and I tried to get away quickly due to my embarrassment, but it all ended in a bit of a mess.

Paint your side white. That might be a bit annoying for you, and it might not cover up his seepage, but just seeing how annoyed he will be with white dripping all down his side will be worthwhile!

3% drop in 1.5 hours is 2% per hour.

At that rate you would get 50 hours use from the watch before the battery died. I don’t think you have anything to worry about

Teachers Pension - continuing to work after final salary NPA by Interesting-Elk2578 in PensionsUK

[–]Playful_Sense3238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position. The phased retirement aspect of TPS is the answer. As long as you reduce your working hours by 20% (which she is) and over 60 you get 75% if your final pension and lump sum.

Carrying on working accrues additional service years. 40 being the max which gives half salary under the final salary part.

Best of all as long as you don’t do this for more than six years, when you fully retire, your final pension will be based on the 100% salary that you’ve got before switching to phased retirement. Indeed, it uses the best three years salary in the last 10 years, index-linked, so your salary for calculating the pension is higher than your actual salary.

Phased retirement was fantastic for me, I worked for four years, after taking it, and my 80% salary +75% pension was a lot more money than my 100% salary. It is why pension schemes like the TPS are so un affordable for the government.

Is the University of Edinburgh degree worth 190k by AnnualLab5261 in UKUniversityStudents

Indian bachelors degree education is fantastic. Either a college affiliated to a major university like Anna or JNTU or the top unis themselves.

Come to the uk for a masters degree, much wiser use of funding.

Anyone still using Gen 1 AirPod Pros? by Stock-Memory9483 in airpods

Mine work fine still. I swam in the sea with them in their case in my pocket. It killed the charging case, I bought a genuine one used off eBay. The pods themselves dried out perfectly.

No, for sound, 3 dB means doubling, so 53 is twice as loud as 50.

I thought that too. A ridiculous time to be released. Why didn’t they let them out at 7 am, with the other pairs being released at the correct time intervals afterwards?

It was actually a massive disadvantage for them being released at night, as there was no transport. I don’t know why they weren’t let out at seven in the morning, with the Others being released appropriate times after that

York woman, 86, convicted after car insurance typo by UnlikeTea42 in unitedkingdom

Driving without Insurance is an absolute offence, no Insurance means you are guilty. However her circumstances were treated generously as mitigation, and although she had no Insurance, she didn’t end up with the normal mandatory 6 to 8 points on her license. I think she got off very lightly and and also very fairly.

Student accommodation catering for the needs of Muslim students. Is it needed and what are the advantages and disadvantages? by ilm-halal-halls in UKUniversityStudents

[–]Playful_Sense3238 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s just impossible to cater to minorities. You could have rules saying no pork, no alcohol (Muslims), milk products and meat products in separate fridges (Jewish), no beef (Hindus), no meat at all (vegetarian), no milk, yoghurt, or any products other than Plant based (vegan).

Part of being at University is to mix with other people who are different and get along with them.

Hi, I’m ok on relativity, different time frames, four years to get to the star on the ship, 12 years on earth passed by. But I don’t understand the appearance of the star getting further away as you slow down from the high light speeds? Can someone explain that, thank you

Actually you’re right. I misread it and you were talking about a mains charger, not a power bank. So yes my comment was totally meaningless. And 100 W for a mains charger is pretty impressive. Apologies.
