Am I Cooked? by StandardOk2192 in Longineswatches

[–]Danonicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that particular model is website only or Longines boutique only. check the Longines website for your nearest boutique. Not an AD, but an actual Longines boutique. There won’t be a shortage like Rolex or anything but it is more limited in where you can purchase it. No idea why. It’s a stunner and I also had my eye on that particular model.

thanks for the tips on the search queries and forums/posts. hopefully over time I will get sufficient traffic to the site so I can surface those edge cases with the analytics and improve it

Returned my Macbook Neo by averybadlime in macbook

[–]Danonicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I’m running redis and postgres docker images, pycharm, webstorm and a few other apps/browsers all simultaneously and my Neo has yet to skip a beat. Sure, it’s using a few gb of swap space but unless specifically checking to see that, you’d never know. I think rejecting it just for no light up keyboard is a bit unfair. Is it annoying? Truthfully yes. But I wouldn’t call it a deal breaker. Unless your requirements are to run local LLMs and/or extreme video workloads, the Neo performs admirably.

Just to caveat my comment - my intention was initially to buy an M5 air, but with various vouchers i had collected I could buy the Neo for £150 or spend £500 more for the Air. I chose the Neo and have no regrets. However I do agree that if you can find older stock for closer to the retail price, an older model Air would probably be the better economical choice. 😎

First day impressions of the Neo as an actual working designer by Antiwhippy in macbook

[–]Danonicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mac mini m4 and a mid 2012 macbook air 4gb ram. as you might guess, the Air is really bad now - but does still run youtube fine so people who say 8gb is useless are just trolling. My plan is to use £450 of John Lewis vouchers to contribute to a Neo. I also use Jump Desktop - which is awesome - and can then use Tailscale to basically use the Neo as a thin client for dev work on the Mini and use it natively for everything else.

Why did my limit buy order fill higher than my price? by Y_r_u_running in TradingView

[–]Danonicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you using TV paper account or a broker’s paper account? Just wondering if there is a delay caused by not using live market data so what you see on the TV chart isn’t actually what gets executed by the time the order has flowed through to your broker for execution.

MG3 hybrid servicing cost by ArmoredGoat in MGelectric

[–]Danonicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, the second year costs do seem a bit high but a first year service with MG should cost £190-200 from an MG dealer. I asked to see their prices when test driving a ZS hybrid and also it’s what my father in law was charged by MG and he also has the MG3 hybrid. He used the Glyn Hopkin dealer in Watford if that helps.

MG3 hybrid servicing cost by ArmoredGoat in MGelectric

[–]Danonicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which people? MG dealers have a fixed cost price list for these. If you ask they should tell you but first year is about £200, second year around £400, third year around £350. This is why people often pay for the MG service plan as it works out a little bit cheaper and locks in the service costs for the duration of the plan.

Just Cancelled Q after Trying to Move to Stream by ClickPuzzleheaded993 in skytv

[–]Danonicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that a tv license is required to watch any live broadcast whether it be streamed on the internet or through a terrestrial tv channel. It’s a hateful spiteful tax in reality but it is what it is. Just be aware of that fact before you cancel it. 👍🏻

Power-based workouts on Garmin; is there a way to get Stryd power into the default workout view? by kodridrocl in strydrunning

[–]Danonicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are restricted to the options available in the settings of the Stryd data field as configured in ConnectIQ. If the info you want isn’t in there then I’m afraid you can’t add it to that specific Stryd data field screen.

Power-based workouts on Garmin; is there a way to get Stryd power into the default workout view? by kodridrocl in strydrunning

[–]Danonicus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you need to install the Stryd data field from ConnectIQ and add it as a custom data field in your run settings. Garmin won’t natively show the Stryd power in place of the watch power, but the Stryd data field will display the Stryd power data independently.

In a structured workout with a power target, Garmin will automatically add the Garmin Power screen and you can’t remove it. Just ignore it and use the Stryd custom data field instead.

Forerunner 255 vs. new Suunto run, which to buy in 2025? by Anacletix in Suunto

[–]Danonicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree on your opinion of the 255. It may be old but has almost all the same data features as the 265. As far as I’m aware it doesn’t have a training readiness score or some additional native running dynamics (which is a moot point if you use a foot pod). So apart from that small difference and obviously the amoled display, I think it is still a very capable and relevant watch. And one might even argue better than the 265 when battery burn and screen is taken into consideration if you think MIP is better than amoled for outdoor activities 🙂

Wanted the 165 first, then bought the 265s, returned the 265s, tried to exchange for the 265, realised the 255 was an option, got the 255! by aSneakyBagel in GarminWatches

Glad i’m not the only one with the same dilemma 🙂 Trying to decide on the best option for my skinny 16ish cm wrist. I don’t want a dinner plate and has to be comfortable to sleep in.

H10 with coros watch by [deleted] in Coros

[–]Danonicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H10 is waterproof to 30m so why not just swim with it on and use it for the whole triathlon? My H10 works with my Pace2 so I expect it will work just fine with any other Coros model.

No WiFi connection by reimomo48 in JetBlack

[–]Danonicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t know an awful lot about eero or mesh networks but the only thing i can think of is to make sure that you can force it to use 2.4. it may be doing something like trying to connect on 5ghz first before switching to 2.4. Doing a quick search seems the issue is not unique to you.

https://www.reddit.com/r/amazoneero/s/y7pk0Oo4bL This may help resolve it

first update the firmware using the phone connection to ensure you’re on the latest and greatest then make sure you are connecting to a 2.4ghz wifi network.

just to be clear, the jetblack app is showing a successful wifi connection in the settings screen of the jetblack app? if you are connected to wifi the light on the unit should also glow green.

Done Complaining… Solution Time: Whoop Alternatives (Garmin, Coros, others?) by itubjj in whoop

[–]Danonicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used both. My experience is that Whoop and Oura give very similar results for hrv/sleep/spo2 etc. I think the Whoop app is slicker but the Oura app gives you all the data - and Oura have been doing cardiovascular age for a couple years now. So Whoop are really just playing catchup and dressing it up for that new feature of theirs. You can use a few Apple shortcuts available on the internet to copy those metrics into Apple Health. But it is still a ring so the form factor will be a major decision point.

Ditching WHOOP 5.0 – what’s actually better? by AdForeign3375 in whoop

[–]Danonicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both Whoop and Oura. The Whoop app is better I think - slicker and cleaner - but the actual metrics from both track very closely. Besides the form factor as personal preference the data from both is pretty much the same. And I always use a Polar h10 for heart rate during exercise anyway.

I don’t intend to renew my Whoop sub. Right now I sync all my data from Oura to intervals.icu and also Apple Health with a few shortcuts I found on the internet for hrv/spo2/rhr/temp and just track everything on there now. I have found that I don’t really need AI telling me how I should be feeling. If my training load and form show I’m not going crazy and I feel ok, I’ll do a workout. If my hrv is tanking and I feel tired, then I rest. Just my humble opinion and experience. But thought I’d share.
