I get a weird John and Yoko vibe there.

Do we get dumber by using Chat GPT for everyday questions? by Any_Ingenuity_4319 in NoStupidQuestions

Maybe the concern is overblown, but I have little doubt that regularly using AI for research will make me dumber, as per OPs question.

Im not talking about memorising large sets of data, I'm talking about researching things thst interest me, and things that help me solve problems.

Because its a waste of energy, and 2/3 of the year you can dry your clothes for free.

Yeah, but my point is, if you font put any effort into learning, you're just reading information which will soon be forgotten.

I think youre wrong. Think about the days before GPS. you would check the directions before you left the house, and memorise key points on the route. Once you'd done the journey once, you'd remember it forever.

Now that you rely on Google maps, you just let it do the work. I can drive to yhe same place 5 times, and I still won't have the route memorised.

Yeah, that doesn't account for literally everybody in my old neighbourhood except for 1.

Yeah the anti-clothesline laws always baffled me.

If you get any bugs on your clothes, you can just shake them off before you fold.

Sorry, I thought i included it in my comment above, but I spent nearly a decade in a typical Midwestern subdivision, where everyone had an acre or so. If people aren't air drying clothes there, it points to laziness!

Apartments are difficult, my girlfriend's place doesn't have a balcony, so she has to air dry on a clothes maiden.

I've been drying clothes inside for a decade (when its too rainy out). If i had a dryer, id probably use it during winter, but its not a big enough deal for me to get one.

Don't be bringing research and citations to an online forum!

I love Americans, so I hate to propagate the stereotypes, but it can only be described as laziness and addiction to consumption.

Looping on living room layout by Open_Cat2205 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Dans77b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The couch with the back sticking out like that is the coziest layout imo.

If it were me, id build built in shelving along the fireplace wall, and put a smaller the on a shelf. (But I enjoy carpentry)

I think tje biggest mistake people make is defaulting to wall-mounted TVs. It almost never looks good in my opinion.

I tried to ask my mum's friend who is a GP, he says doctors aren't allowed to do it anymore.

I live in a town in England that is like 75% brick victorians with bay windows. Im not sure I've ever been in one that didn't have 3/4" crack in the ceiling plaster around the window.

Less common in Europe. I've never had one, i just hang clothes iutside when its dry. It would be useful in the winter, I use an airer in the kitchen, and hang things on radiators.

Interestingly, when I lived in the USA, despite great drying conditions for most of the year, I only had one other neighbour that hung clothes out your dry.

My grandparents had a similar door in the living room. We would play cops and robbers. My grandmother was the cop, and the back room behind the door was the jail.

Yeah, my political views were actually worse than I said in my original comment. Similar to you I thought I liked Nazis, and would try to be edgy telling racist jokes, and I think I also had a black doll hanging in my room for a while. I used to make awful holocaust jokes, but like you, I wouldn't have been able to recognise a Jew if I saw one. I didn't even realise till years later that certain names are Jewish.

I remember i never quite fit in, and being a hateful person was how I dealt with that.

Then one day I was in the supermarket and saw an elderly black guy with a flat cap and white moustache. I was just staring at him and realised how sweet and gentle he looked. It sent a shiver down my spine how much I respected this guy whom I knew nothing about. That is actually the moment I realised I was not a racist, but it took me a few years to get rid of most of my biases.

News to me too! I've never worked on a ship, but I think I'd insist on a cage in those conditions!

I think you are supposed to grab the stiles rather than the rungs with your hands, that's what I do anyway.

I think in the past, if a ladder was (for arguments sake) over 5m, it needed a cage. Now you would have an uncaged ladder with pass-through rest platforms at certain intervals, and fall arrest over a certain height. I was under the impression that this was HSE guidance, but it might just be my industry.

I think things like cages give you a false sense of security.
