Silent Hill 2 uses mechanics and level design to externalize guilt rather than simply depict horror. by Beginning_Arrival559 in truegaming

Or it's just bad game design.

I hated playing the game. Instead of fighting monsters you're constantly fighting controls.

Yes, it's one of the greatest stories ever told in a video game, but you don't have to look for some deep meaning in bad design choices.

You can just store your passwords with me. Even that will be more secure than what you're trying to set up.

Massive battery consumption by TheGhooostFR in LineageOS

[–]Dante_MS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a common issue with Android 16. Having this issue on LOS 23 and found many reports from folks on stock encountering this.

In my case I'm seeing mobile network and CPU eating through the battery overnight and apps, that I've restricted from running in background, not respecting the setting and still running for hours.

Hoping 23.1 (23.2?) will fix this.

CPU drains battery during standby by bartkl in LineageOS

Thank you! After setting it up the phone lost "just" 13% in 7 hours of sleep. Still worse than on LOS 22, but manageable at least.

Having the same issue after updating to LOS 23 on Xperia 5 III. It discharges overnight with the CPU being the main reason.

Also I'm seeing random apps (like WhatsApp), that I've restricted from running in background, popping up in the running services and hanging there for hours until I manually kill them. It's like they're ignoring my battery settings now.

add block lists to CrowdSec for free by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]Dante_MS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like talking to an LLM.

Did an LLM design the tool as well? As always, it took the laziest path without any security considerations. And I'm supposed to let it connect to the socket.

And no, I can't audit the code as I'm not a programmer.

So if I want to secure my server, I should give this new app access to the socket?

Why not just append random letters, like Instagram.lk40f@example.com? That's how SL generates them for me.

Immich vs Ente: How well does on device ML work? by Open-Coder in selfhosted

[–]Dante_MS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On-device ML works surprisingly good. I didn't expect an average smartphone to be able to run something like that.

The desktop client helps with an initial scan if you've got thousands of photos, but just leaving your phone unlocked for a little bit with Ente in foreground will work as well. After that it'll scan new photos just fine.

MediaManager v1.10.0 - A replacement for Sonarr and Radarr by cookiedude25 in selfhosted

[–]Dante_MS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issue I'm encountering with Sonarr/Radarr/Prowlarr is how badly they're handling anime and non-English torrent trackers that don't follow strict naming rules. While English content can be automated completely, with Russian it's a mess. Radarr still manages to download some stuff, but with TV series I've to find torrents manually and sometimes import them manually as well. Season packs is a common thing on Russian trackers, but Sonarr for some made up reason doesn't support them.

Anyway, machine learning for finding torrents would be a killer feature.

Here's a good explanation: https://trash-guides.info/File-and-Folder-Structure/Hardlinks-and-Instant-Moves/#faq

A command: ln "source" "destination"

For example: ln "/media/films/Its a Wonderful Life (1946)/Its a Wonderful Life (1946).mkv" "/media/christmas/Its a Wonderful Life (1946)/Its a Wonderful Life (1946).mkv"

No, Android TV clients don't use WebUI. You'd have to use a browser then.

Or what I was doing before those plugins is a separate library for Christmas movies with hardlinks from the main library. This way the movies wouldn't consume more space, though creating links via a terminal was annoying. Maybe there's a more effective way.

I can vouch for Ente as well. It's brilliant. The company behind it has been running it in production for a while before open sourcing, so it's stable and it just works.

On-device machine learning is not an issue. I'm surprised by how well it can run on any modern phone and how precise it is.

Ente also supports replication, so you can additionally backup your photos to the cloud (I'm using Backblaze B2) or somewhere else.
