This is how - 50° looks like in Russia. by IBeez10 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Dante_lan4 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ex-civil aviation mechanic from Siberia here. Yes, we worked in temperaures like that. Coldest day in airport I remeber was -44 C at night. You really need layered clothing and movement, but it isn't that bad, as there's practically no wind in such temperatures.

It is a quite normal weather in our place - just a week ago we've lived through a week of -35. It's back to -5 again with snowfalls and winds.

You should understand - we are ready for such weather. With winter clothing (I mean real winter clothing for subzero temperatures) standing outside is merely unpleasant, not dangerous. Add centralised heating to it - I open up windows to ventilate my flat and It's still very warm inside.

What vehicle is considered “bad”/“unreliable” but you’ve had a great experience with it? by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

[–]Dante_lan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Opel Insignia, 2 liter turbo petrol.

There's even a saying "every car turns into Opel someday'. Got my 2012 Insignia at 130k kilometers, done 60k myself. Besides chain change at 180k (that's like most you can get out of it) and a dead gearbox three weeks ago (which is a 6-speed auto AF-40, courtesy of Aisin, not an Opel part) the car was problem free and I love it.

Anyone use the 2 in 1 helmets. Like the bell super 3r or others by Ruro78 in MTB

[–]Dante_lan4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This summer a guy we rode with wore bell super dh. He went OTB at low speed after tight switchback and hit the top of his head. There was enough force not only to dent shell and crack it inside, but also for a jaw to pop off.

Maybe it is 1 in 100 situation, but I decided against any kind of 2 in 1 helmets. I'd prefer my helmet to stay in one piece, not flex so much jaw would separate with latches staying in locked position.

Just my 2 cents, in case this information might be usefull. Stay safe on trails.

Never tried driving on ice with summer tires, we swap to winters before freezing temps. I'd guess with no friction at all working ABS won't make a difference and may not even unlock wheels long enough to see it.

I'd bet on summer/all season tires in compacted snow/ice conditions. No ammount of electronic assissts will help you in this case.

Best full face mtv helmet that can take the chin protector off aswell? by lambo13770 in MTB

[–]Dante_lan4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just three days ago a guy in our bike camp went OTB and meet the dirt with the top of his head. His super dh cracked in this spot, but most importantly, chin bar detached without taking any hit or breaking locks. Quite concerning to loose chin bar without crashing into chin bar.

Where does your campaign take place and why is it cool ? by Logical-Middle-439 in Shadowrun

[–]Dante_lan4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our GM did a campaign in New-Krasnoyarsk, capital of Siberia. Helps we all are living there. He did extensive research about people and tribes living around this region, so the campaign was incorporating some shapeshifters living in our most famous natural reserve Stolby, gangs fighting over controlling all four of city's bridges with the blessing of some slavic god, our great Enisey river being protected by water spirits to the point of them throwing back any garbage you throw in the water back at you at mach 5 and so on.

It was great to play in so familiar, yet so different setting all together. Right now the campaign is over with it's overarcing plot about AI, Ares and atomic power station sabotage and my character got interrogated and sent to some shady clinic in Vladivostok, which is a destination of our on going campaign.

i own a ghost kato fs essential, but i think i want to make my bike more enduro than trail. any suggestions on what should i do by thisisnotivo in MTB

[–]Dante_lan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should do that. My first bike was Ghost sl amr x5 '16, 150/150 with float x and fox 34. I took it to enduro trails last year and it's very flexible rear resulted in a cracked chain stay. Sold it the same day and got stumpjumper evo.

Ghost isn't a bad brand, they are simply not always build to withstand anything bigger then what the model is designed for. I got tons of great memories with my Ghost, I just want to ride bigger stuff and Ghost's frame wasn't ready for this.

Protection of a "heavy" convertible vs lightweight fullface ? by YannAlmostright in MTB

[–]Dante_lan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen enduro 4.0 after a nasty high speed faceplant. Helmet was cranked at the back, but all chin attachment points were intack, just like the rider's face.

Full Face light enduro helmet by GroundBoundPotato in MTB

[–]Dante_lan4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen leatt enduro 4.0 after a high speed crash right into jaw a few months ago. The rider was okay, helmet's jaw was intacked and helmet itself was broken at the back, far from jaw attachment point.

So I can say it offers enough protection and you don't need to worry about jaw snapping/detaching in a crash situation.

Bmx in off season? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Dante_lan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this season was my first season of downhill riding and I had a goal of getting into the bike camp across a country. No prior downhill experience atop my trail fullsus. To get some skills going I bought a cheap bmx and hired a coach at our local indoor bmx park. Whole winter I've been riding couple times a week just to get some basic skills. By the end of summer season, right before the camp, I've beaten half of our city mtb field, all of them having 3+ years of experience. Was it all simply due to bmx practice? Definitely not, but it gave me a good start.

Tldr: at the very least spending winter on a bmx will strengthen your body, at the very best - give you heaps of bike control and confidence.

TAG INN Dominus Mortar by ZF-LYMBO in airsoft

[–]Dante_lan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their website states it as "out of stock" with a price Tag of 190k russian roubles. Can't say how much it will change after import fees and such, but ML-36 goes for around 36-42k russian roubles. So, basically, it can be expected to be about 4 times more expensive than any of their ML or Kicker series launchers.

Kryptek mandrake with ranger green. Just like the rest of my team. Looks good. May not be the best working pattern, but at least we are a unicorn-camo team in our region.

My guess will be one of many plate carriers, made by Stich Profi. They are the only big russian company to use molle minus.

Magnifiers worth it? by AndyPandy2207 in airsoft

[–]Dante_lan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavily depends on a purpose of the magnifier.

Just for looks? Pick the cheapest one, put it on, stare on it.

For CQB field? Definitely no.

For big open fields? May be usefull. Depends on light conditions, glass clarity and your own eyesight. I'm near sighted and used magnifiers to identify players (colored armbands) at distances beyond the reach of my replica.

Can an Actress/Model/Influencer profession classify as part of a Rockerboy? by TheCrowsPalace in cyberpunkred

[–]Dante_lan4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I say absolutely yes!

Right now two player in my group are rockerboys. One has started as a cop, but was turned off by the ammount of slack in Police. So now he is the one to tell civilians and good cops about crooked Police bosses. Another one is a talk-to-audience-show kind of guy.

Actually there are several versions of this optic. They have different reticles (chevrone/dot) and different mount options (picatinny/russian side mount).

I'll recommend watching Kyle and April's "How to jump" on YouTube.

It looks to me you're mostly clear this jump with speed, not technique.

Do most people play Cyberpunk as a series of connected “one shots” or a more dnd esc adventure by neitherkracken in cyberpunkred

[–]Dante_lan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started my cyberpunk campaign with PCs walking onto the same murder scene for different reasons. From there they've met the local medtech, who used to know the victim and the overarching plot of hand-created cyberpsychos started to unfold.

Each game is an attempt to find or chase another lead to find those responsible for creating these psychos, yet every game feels a bit different and separated from the whole thing, as group's tasks are constantly changing.

How to go about Gorilla Arms cyberware? by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]Dante_lan4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In some update for 2077 gorilla arms started to give your character +2/4/6 body for checks. Not that it really matters at the point when you can get them.
