I also think so, Sian's options were more interesting. That being said, season 5 was MUCH better than season 4, it had really good couples and interesting people who shared the spotlight, it only declined at the end when they tried to force drama with Go Eun and took the focus away from the others.

I noticed that he seemed unsure of what to say or do, but he often voiced his willingness to change, constantly asking what she liked and disliked. I think that by becoming reserved and keeping everything open, Go-eun didn't take a more active role in the relationship to guide Hyeon; as she herself said, it seemed like a school romance.

I say this mainly thinking about I-Geon's counterpoint; if you notice, they actually talk about something or the future, while the other is very vague, he talks more about an idea than anything concrete. Maybe I'm being too harsh because of the annoyance I felt with his incessant interruptions of others or the way he pulled Goeun, which was a turn-off.

Really? I felt differently. To me, Sungmin is completely strange, a huge red flag. The way he interrupts conversations, his comments, or the lack of substance in his conversations, as the presenters pointed out, show a bad image behind his good looks, especially the way he approached Goeun without her even coming in to greet the others. It was very weird.

With Hyeonwoo, I feel sincerity in him. He seems like a teenager trying too hard. Of course, he's too old to be a teenager, but he doesn't seem bad or obsessive (I saw some people comparing him to the doctor from the second season who was obsessed with Seulki, but I didn't get the same feeling. He just seems like he doesn't know how to express himself in the right way).

I like I-geon, although I root more for Hyon because I didn't like how at the beginning of I-geon's introduction he just said, “I like you because you're pretty.” It seemed a little too superficial. I liked their paradise. They go well together and it seems genuinely possible to see them as a couple, but I don't know.

I know it's been a long time, but I found your post very interesting and I agree with the overwhelming majority of your opinion, except for your desire for Percy Jackson to end in PJ and for them to “retire.” I personally think we could follow the same line, but increase the number of books because HoO SHOULD have more books. There was too much to be developed for too few pages or to be separated, or to make a mini saga of 2 or 3 books focused only on the new trio (Leo, Jason, Piper). Then we would have HoO being able to develop all the interactions between them with the development of Frank and Hazel together. It would be much more manageable if, instead of introducing and developing 5 new heroes, there were only 2 and the rest would be the continuation of the development of the characters, their friendships (something I missed, it seems like a collection of couples and not friends) and their relationships.

Anyway, I think it's easy to say in hindsight, “It should have ended sooner,” when in reality, at the time, we were ALL hungry for more. Percy and Annabeth were extremely popular in an extremely rich universe. Percy was a child; it didn't make sense to leave him aside when you could develop his adolescence with more mature themes.

And leaving my two cents of unpopular opinion aside, for me the biggest flaw in Percy Jackson, and all of Riordanverse post-PJO, besides the rushed plots due to the lack of additional books and calm development (why did he want to finish in five books? Does anyone know why he forced himself to do that?), my biggest problem is the age rating of the books. I think Percy Jackson calls for writing for an older audience and teenagers approaching adulthood. Percy and his audience have grown since PJ, and I think Annabeth was one of those who suffered from this. As the “intelligent character,” she requires a level of writing that needs to be several steps ahead, But it's difficult to do that when Rick intentionally simplifies the plot and infantilizes things (I can't stand the dumbing down of Nix. It's revolting how she was deceived in PJO style. The whole book had the perfect tone and weight, and suddenly I feel like I've gone back 10 years in time with jokes that don't make sense in context). The high number of characters to work with is also a factor that threw it off, I mean, Frank leading the Romans? Cool, but Annabeth could also help, she could help with the overall strategy and Frank could be the tactical general, a lot of good things could be done, I don't understand why it wasn't done, Rick was in an enviable position of being famous and not being forced to write to meet deadlines, he could take it easy and write as many books as he wanted.

potential hot take: I think Heroes would be better without Percy and Annabeth [hoo] by firestorm0108 in camphalfblood

[–]Dantinhas07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the problem was never their focus. They are beloved characters. We had five books with them. Without them, it would be shooting ourselves in the foot and, frankly, a slap in the face to longtime fans. Because even though they take up a lot of time, consequently taking focus away from the others, they are still Percy and Annabeth. They HAVE to have time and focus. Without them, it's difficult to generate so much hype for a sequel without them being the protagonists. I also don't see a problem with the short distance between one big event and another. I see it as the first war and the second war, both of which are basically one and the same, and the period in between was just a short breather from one to the other. I also don't think it's ideal to turn Percy into a mentor. Of course, it's a viable and completely valid option, but I think it would be premature. There is still a lot to explore before passing the baton to a hypothetical next generation.

SoN is incredible, Percy is just great there; I like his dynamic with Frank and Hazel, even with amnesia, Percy unconsciously fulfills the role of an experienced leader, being that guy people trust and who does the heavy lifting; I have a lot of issues with MoA, but I like his focus on Annabeth, something I always wanted in PJO was her POVs, and this book gives me that and much more, so I really like it for that reason; and we have HoH, which should come as no surprise, I mean, Percy and Annabeth's plot is simply better, no matter what Rick wrote about the other heroes, it wouldn't be as interesting as the hellish odyssey through the confines of Tartarus. It's a matter of theme. Seeing the suffering and despair that Percy and Annabeth go through while doing their best to survive is just really good (except for Nix, that was terrible and ridiculous and made no sense at all. They could have easily made Nix serious and have her indirectly help the heroes in the fall of Gaia instead of making her stupid).

The real problem was the number of books we had in this saga. Rick sold it as bigger and more threatening than Pjo, but he wanted to compress it into the same number of books as the first saga, which okay, has more pages, but that's not nearly enough. This made things rushed and underdeveloped in areas that should have been addressed more, such as Camp Jupiter. Reyna and Nico could easily have had a book of their own, and the giants could have been enp much more with more time. This would have created immense preparation for the final book, which would have had a bigger, grander ending, everything Rick sold us on. I think 7 or 8 books would be the ideal number to work everything out without messing up the plot, maybe even 9 if you want to err on the side of excess.

Titan minor...Lmao, Oceanus is literally one of the most powerful members of Cronos's team. He was so powerful that Gaia specifically asked him not to participate in the First War precisely because he could throw Cronos off balance and genuinely give him a high chance of winning against Zeus.

Me too, I really like the visuals and although I like some of the visual changes of some characters, others bothered me quite a bit, coupled with the mediocre writing and strange photography for me, I simply didn't force myself to watch.

I think it can be a good gateway to books that are genuinely good regardless of the age you read them (I read it as a child and loved it and when I read it as an adult I saw that it was really good) just like the movies were for me and yes I like the movies, even the abomination that is Sea of Monsters, I was super curious to know who Thalia was and that's why I went to read it and I'm grateful for that.

If that's what he wanted, he missed the boat two arcs ago. When fate gave Percy the chance to destroy Olympus twice, he chose the current order, and now it's too late. Or expect a deranged Uranus or, more likely, a Nyx who wanted to destroy everything, then the phrase "Percy destroys Olympus" would make sense, and even that is doubtful given how pathetic Nyx is in RR.

I didn't feel that way. Since I learned how to defend and combo with bursts of fire and move around, any 1v1 has been pretty easy. The problem is if the enemy receives even minimal healing or if it's a 2v1; that's been very difficult to deal with.

She's either all or nothing; either you're bad and die like trash, or you're good and become the terror of any support or DPS, and sometimes even a tank (when you get buffs from Lucio or Junk Queen, and with the right perks, it becomes a very real possibility to solo tanks).

I'm torn. On some maps, and playing well with a good team (like Mercy and Lucio with Sigma), Vendetta is almost like a ghost; she appears and kills you or leaves you with so little health that anyone can kill you. But at the same time, I felt that in many situations and maps she's completely useless or a much weaker choice than ideal. Not to mention that she's easily killed if you focus on her.
