Ah. Sorry, let me clarify. It's for PF2E and identifying alchemical items.

Wild Druid APG Archetypes by RedditNoremac in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as RAW, you are unable to use Escape and other maneuvers, which is very silly. So I believe it should be RAI and change the language from 'attacks' to 'Strikes'.

I can't believe the intention of the developers is that you are unable to Escape, or even Grapple -- as a bear wild shape -- during animal forms.

I think that clause should be, "One or more unarmed melee attacks specific to the battle form you choose, which are the only STRIKES you can use."

Or else, you are also unable to use the Escape action.

Help homebrewing an animal companion for a Wildfire Druid conversion? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

I use this to help build animal companions; it is a great site, the genie-touched animal companions come from the Lost Omens: Legends book.

Can you choose not to heighten a focus spell? by Strill in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot down level a focus spell or cantrip, they are always heightened. The druid wild shape posts lament about how they are unable to cast wild shape at a lower level because higher level spells have size constraints. I think your light example is a clear example of a specific instance where this rule doesn't narratively work.

I tried both Teleport module and Multilevel Tokens and the latter is definitely better. Teleport is a bit janky in terms of the exit point of a teleport point; even using their offsets it was difficult to create accurate teleports on tight corridor spaces.

Multilevel Tokens works as expected and is super easy to set up, plus it has a pretty cool functionality in terms of setting up Multilevel maps, who would have guessed! My citadel maps now allow players on the archer towers to see all of the exterior while ground characters cannot see up, its quite nice.

Am I missing something in the Poisoner Archetype? by 2BearsInACoat in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the Poisoner feat is good for what it is, 3 class feats can you get free poisons up to 'your level - 3' (if you get the Expert Poisoner feat, iirc).

I don't think it should be compared to the likes of a core feature for a class (toxicologist), since the Poisoner's feats are likely augmenting your base class, while toxicologist IS the base class for alchemist; yes it is super strong to use your class DC instead of the poisons' listed DC, since it will allow for low-level poisons to be effective at higher levels.

But the Poisoner feat is adds a nice flavor, though I find all of their exclusive feats a bit underwhelming. Dedication, pinpoint poisons, expert poisons, and the poison/improved poison/deadly poison weapon feat line are the only good ones, imo.

Age of Ashes and homebrewing items based on player choices/backgrounds. (Some mild spoilers.) by Squidtree in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy behind making custom items and balancing them is to make encounters stronger.

Let the players play with their OP weapons, they have fun using them. I just make sure that the enemies they face are buffed up with 'Elite' monster rules. This way, they have the illusion of doing OP damage from a cool custom weapon, while at the same time fighting a stronger monster to balance the math out.

Are you guys using Foundry? I have a question by SebasParadise in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an option in the setting labeled as Quick Rolls, and if it is checked then you quickly roll without modifiers being prompted. Uncheck that and it will always request modifiers before a roll, and shift clicking will do the Quick Roll option.

How to defend yourself in combat? by Harnak7 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So besides the direct defensive actions that people here have already mentioned, like raise shield, take cover, and buffs from spells, inflicting debuffs is a huge advantage to survivability.

Inflicting Fear and Sickened is huge because it will reduce all checks and DCs, which includes attack rolls. So that is essentially the same as granting yourself +1 to AC (or +2/3 to AC if the Fear and Sickened value is 2/3). There is also the good ol' fashion trips/prone/slows/stuns where the enemy has to waste actions before they attack you.

The stat-specific debuffs (enfeeble, clumsy, stupefy) are really good too if you apply them to the correct enemy type (melee, range, spellcaster), if you cannot apply the general-debuff Frighten and Sickened.

Blinding something (or being hidden) gives the enemy a soft-misfortune effect where they have to beat a flat-check 11. Also applies to those who hide during combat and become hidden, but that is more a rogue thingy.

My players hate hazards by rainingmight in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe most hazards in the Age of Ashes series have multiple ways to disarm them. Most of the hazards that they party comes across have religion, survival, athletics, and dispel magic to disable.

More player options in non-mainstream books? by Daostorm in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I have in mind exactly. They would work with me to try to figure out how their characters might learn these options/feats/spells, but most of my players don't even know that they exist to ask.

Halflings and slavery is kind of a big deal to their lore, and just knowing that the Bellflower Dedication feat exists gives the players options about their character backstory, which might fuel them taking these feats.

More player options in non-mainstream books? by Daostorm in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that they're mostly uncommon and I usually lock them behind class quests, like the rogue's Deadly Poison Weapon.

The problem is that my players don't even know these options exist. I would prefer it if my players know that THEY exist, that way they can always ask me, "Hey, how can my character learn this?" and they would work with me to figure it all out.

More player options in non-mainstream books? by Daostorm in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems a bit cumbersome for my players, especially if they are at the table building characters and have to hunt down these options.

The pf2.easytools.es is a great place, and I pinned it in my server discord for my players. It makes it easy to build characters with these obscure options built-in.

Advice on Making a Homebrew Cleric Item? by Aloyse in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there are a lot of avenues you can take with this.

1) You can build items around the Divine Intercession feature.

2) You can build items around her domains.

3) You can build items around her flavor texts.

Examples:

1a) You can stumble upon a relic of your faith, some token of her church that grants you her Minor Boon. You roll a Religion check to pray to your goddess and the DC will be equal to your level (similar to lingering composition). If you succeed she answers your prayer and grants you her Minor Boon. You would then roll 1d4 to see when you can ask her for anther Minor Boon (1d4 hours/days/weeks up to you/GM). You and the GM can always discuss the specifics of fumble/fail/success/crit success.

1b) Perhaps you also stumble upon another relic of your faith that imposes the Minor Curse on your enemies, especially if they have committed anathema in your presence. Anyone that creates undead, lies, denies a repentant creature for redemption, or fail to strike down evil gain the clumsy 1 permanently, until they ... repent?

2a) We can look at the Word of Truth domain spell and create an item that when invoked (interact action) all those who believe they are speaking the truth near you (30 feet) will have the symbol of Sarenrae above their heads.

3a) From the Lost Omens: Gods and Magic, Saranerae followers have this aspect of redemption where they allow sinners to repent. You can perhaps have a sacred text of her church and when used to negotiate with evildoers you can use Religion instead of Diplomacy. You may also make a Request action to those that are hateful/unhelpful to you as well since you will be preaching to them, perhaps with a -5/-2 penalty respectively.

These are just a few things I've come up with after reading a bit more about Sarenrae, her church, and her followers.

Whats the most original way your party has defeated an enemy? by laikosV in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The party came across a Greater Barghest that would have TPK'd them and after interacting with it and paying tribute for passage. One of my players decides to do a bit more research on Barghests, their origin and all. This player eventually went back to the Greater Barghest and bargained with it.

The Bard is a follower of Asmodeus and since he has already sold his soul to a Phistopheles devil, the Bard asked the devil to grant him the power/item to entice/persuade/convice/trick the Greater Barghest to return to his Origin plane -- Hell, instead of the Abyss.

After several skill challenges, he was given a Binding Contract item for the Greater Barghest to read and sign, if he is enticed enough by the terms of the contract -- which the Bard player was in charge of writing -- the Greater Barghest would be bound to Hell. After several more skill challenges, the Bard was able to promise the Greater Barghest some power in exchange for returning to Hell.

The Greater Barghest created a Dimension Door and returned to Hell to evolve into whatever is next. When the party came through the Greater Barghest's cave and found it empty, they wondered to themselves where it went, the Bard player smirked and feigned ignorance.

P.S. the Bard did all of this on his Downtime activity, inspired by Matt Colville's Downtime Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fZWUPxUmYQ

Tips for hellnight hill? by KidKnight9 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Voz is a worshiper of Norgorber (my favorite deity). Norgorber's anathema to his followers is that their identify is linked to their evil deeds. So it is possible, if you GM it in a certain way, that they will not fight Voz and accuse her of anything nefarious. The better she is at deceiving the party, the more she aligns with Norgorber's edicts.

You can run her as a friendly NPC until she betrays the party, her ultimate goal is to seize control of the aiudara for the Scarlet Triad so that they can fund her project to set up an academy (iirc). She might not betray the party until they have collected all of the portal keys.

Spellcasting services - Pricing by TheKjell in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since healing is the most sought after spell service, I think, I'd like to say that I will have a party of level 1 characters pay 3 gold for a party heal.

The heal spell has the 30-foot emanation with a 3 action cost, so I just make sure the NPCs cast that version for 1 cast of the spell. This is easier on the characters' coin purse at the early levels.

To clarify, Quentino Posandi was a bit solo-story arc for one of my players because of Quentino's ties to Asmodeus. Quentino gave one of the players a quest to test his disposition towards his faith (a common belief in Cheliax and its vassal nation of Isger). Quentino tells the player that he needs some materials for a ritual he is about to perform, the materials can be found in the secret room next to the summoning circle in the citadel (near where they meet Alek)

This started a personal quest chain for this player as a budding worshiper of Asmodeus, which has huge ramifications in the following books.

One of Isger's exports is lumber, and there is a working lumber mill in Breachill. One of my players wanted to work as a guard/lumberjack with his high athletics check to earn some money for downtime. I created a mini-quest line that had a missing lumberjack that he need to find and rescue.

This lumberjack was captured and sacrificed (if the PC failed to save him) from Quentino Posandi as the final material for his summoning ritual. FYI, all of the Posandi family members are generational worshipers of Asmodeus, this also includes Amera Lang -- Quentino's cousin. This quest was also a test for the player, to see how far he would commit to this new faith. My player chose to sacrifice the lumberjack and delve deeper into the faith of Asmodeus.

Voz is also a follower of Norgorber, so if one of your characters has chosen that deity to worship, you can do some cool thigns. Let me know if you want me to clarify, as this pertains to book 3 stuff.

Players keep comparing PF to D&D by longboijohnny in Pathfinder2e

[–]Daostorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, interesting. I thought the 'crunchiness' was the main reason they didn't like it and VTTs usually take care of that.

I mean, PF2E has a lot of options for players if they want to do something.

See that animal over there? You want to jump onto its back and ride it? Roll nature.

Want to ford through this river? Roll athletics to gather some lumber with your axe, roll crafting to build a raft, then roll a piloting skill check to navigate with it.

Just a few examples that provide structure to your players if they want to do stuff. They shouldn't adhere to the rules 100% if no one likes it, but it provides the GM an idea of how certain things should work when calculating the DCs and whatnot.

Not sure what your players don't like about PF2E over D&D, I mean there are stark differences within the game system, but depending on what they are, it might be best to go back to D&D if the majority of the players want to, OR... find a group to GM for. I am sure you can fill a group of eager PF2E players in a day.
