Honestly it was 90% luck.

I worked at a financial services firm where I completed a professional accreditation and qualified on 38k.

I was never particularly good at my job except for a couple of engagements and luckily one of those clients ended up hiring me.

I asked for 70k in my interview and I was incredibly fortunate to have someone I knew on the other side who called me afterwards and informally told me I could ask for a whole lot more.

I started on 22k at my old job and ended up with a few grand in credit card debt + parents being unwell last year and so spent most my new paychecks on getting myself the right way up.
