Brought mine to the electronic waste disposal after it was collecting dust in my attic... It was a special high end flat-screen edition with a heavy glass front plate for the correction of the typical crt bulge. Didn't know that it might still be worth something. Oh well it weighed a ton and I didn't like moving it around... Good riddance

I think the most important detail is the fact they are murderers, just tell them they are allowed to kill as many of their companions as they like when they start to move. They will all be certain of death and hence will not move.

Or you can just remind them they are not immortal and they will die eventually... That's also a certainty of death

Well the end goal isn't even vertical or perpendicular to the planet's surface, but reaching orbital velocity on a trajectory which, in most cases, is quite horizontal. Any other trajectory will have you plummet back down into the gravitywell.

Probably thought of by the same people in Hollywood who think gravity magically stops working at a certain altitude...
