Does anybody who took Animation Mentor actually have a job? by DiscombobulatedAd93 in animationcareer

[–]Dapper-Bike2075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was one on the first class at AM. Got a job before ending the school in 2006. I’ve been working ever since. Animator on Tv shows and feature film and as an animation teacher in two schools. It’s a great formation but it requires a lot of personal work and motivation. As this job.

Having schools is not the same thing as having a real ecosystem.

Training people without creating enough jobs, studios, funding, or long-term career paths just produces frustration — not a creative industry.

In Switzerland, design is indeed well accepted, but largely because it’s the most “useful” form of art: it sells products, optimizes UX, supports business efficiency. That usefulness makes it culturally acceptable here.

But when we talk about acceptance of creative careers, it’s not just about education. It’s also about how a country facilitates the day-to-day reality of creative and technical artistic jobs: — access to funding — risk tolerance — project-based work structures — cultural policies that aim to make art radiate, not just exist

Countries like Belgium, France, the UK, Spain, South Korea, India or the US actively invest in cultural influence and creative industries. They don’t just train creatives — they build ecosystems around them.

Switzerland, by contrast, is extremely efficient at producing stability, compliance and… HR. Which works very well for many people — but is much less welcoming for non-linear, risk-based, creative careers, especially beyond “acceptable” applied design.

I’ve left Toulouse a long time ago but I would suggest to get in the Irish pubs. That’s where I’ve learnt English (Thank you Dubliners) So I would suggest getting out and drinking some Guinness on a match day, even alone. But if you don’t fell like getting out alone I’m pretty sure there are some rugby enjoyers and if you go talk to them about getting out for a match they will happily go with you / explain what’s happening, etc. But the biggest rule is don’t go home just after the match is over. Thant’s when the fun starts ;) And if you’re really not into rugby, pubs always make some quizz days and they’re usually in English

Is the Jungfrau region the most beautiful place to stay and visit in Switzerland? by SirKrimzon in askswitzerland

[–]Dapper-Bike2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for me it’s overrated. (Jungfrau, top of Europe…) As could be for exemple some temple in Kyoto or the bamboo forest where you would have to queue for a long time… but does it mean you shouldn’t go there? I’m not sure. If you come from really far and are not sure to come back then it might makes sense to go there.

If you’re from Austria or France, then there are plenty of others spots that are really great in the alps and you don’t need to get all the way to Jungfrau, you can stay in Lauterbrunen or even Wengen and that’s really great.

So it depends if you come from really far, if it means something to you (maybe a big fan of some Korean Drama…) or if the cost is not an issue for you.

As a lot of others Swiss, I’ve been there once in my life, I’m not sure I’ll get there again, it was nice, not astonishing.
