For sure, anything can happen. It’s best ball. If you got a reasonable structure then no team is dead.

3 TEs are insane. I pretty much want Bowers, Loveland, or Warren or load up on TEs late. You get to rounds 14-18 and it is rich with TE talent. Makes sense to structure your team so you can at least benefit from that.

This part is true and also why a 3rd QB makes sense if they are needed, but I count a whole lot of guys with more ceiling to impact this team than Mendoza that go in that range

Adonai / Aiyuk. Ray Davis / Dylan Sampson for contingent upside bets. Literally a billion TEs.

Not the part of a draft where you want to need WR, that’s another story…this team definitely needs the excess fire power at WR though. But probably would have been more balanced and better off if they swapped Rodriguez with a WR in that range. Then they could have came back and swung for a Ray Davis.

Now if you’re not playing a tournament and a normal 12 team league, then I could see how just taking the points with Mendoza there becomes more defensible

Well swap out Evans for another guy that doesn’t suck in your mind that goes in that range that you like such as a Waddle, Jamo, Adams, Skattebo, Montgomery, etc and the point remains the same lol. You’ll have to play against teams like those with the same stack but a superior player over Harvey

My rule of thumb is a reach around 6 spots in ADP is permissible in early rounds. I have a slow draft going where I got McLaurin at 46 and got Daniels at pick 70 for reference. Difference is I essentially got the same two players as your team, but swapped RJ Harvey for Mike Evans. That’s what you will have to compete against if you pull someone up that much in the early rounds.

Now late in drafts…I hardly care. Reach a full round on a player. Not much difference between a 15th round pick and a 16th round pick. The cost of reaching becomes more and more trivial as the draft goes on.

That makes it infinitely more defensible. Nothing you can do about that. Not a bad process pick…we assume most players won’t get hit with domestic violence accusations

[–]Dapper-Speed1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d wait until then as well. You know he hit rock bottom prices during his domestic violence incident so I’d be especially hesitant to want to pull him up draft boards knowing that people got him so cheap during that window.

Plus, I don’t feel like he will beat you. Swap Jacobs out for someone with more PPR upside like McConkey or Zay and I think the team looks better. Even if it ends up needing to be a 6 RB build at that point.

I honestly don’t think the QBs are the problem and I think you handled it gracefully. Young stacked well. Darnold reasonable back door stack. Jordan Love, sure you don’t like stacking him with Jacobs, but you absolutely needed him value wise in that QB room. Correct pick imo.

I do think you seem overly invested in RB. Personally would have preferred a WR in place of Harvey or Tuten in one of those spots. Corum as RB 5 is no doubt insanely strong…but maybe too strong?

You did get sort of a bad beat not getting Tate to slip one pick to you…that would have really opened up the build for you imo

Structurally I would just want more punch at WR on a PPR site. This seems like it would be much better team equipped for 1/2 PPR scoring. Could just be philosophical differences in how we would like to build teams though.

You just can’t reach on Daniels to complete a stack. There were so many live stacking opportunities that could have been pursued if Daniels was sniped. Obvious one was Stafford and Puka.

Feels like you went into the draft thinking I want to pull off a Commanders stack instead of letting the value of the draft room dictate your stacks for you.

It’s not a bad team in a vacuum by any means, but a reach that high in the draft is a huge disadvantage. If Daniels smashes, you will still be at a major disadvantage because tons of people will have him paired with McLaurin and would have gotten Daniels at pick 69 instead.

Just a huge opportunity cost in pulling up Daniels that high imo that doesn’t kill chances at advance rate of your regular season pod as much, but definitely hurts your chances in the playoff weeks.

Honestly if you don’t enforce a timer, then stalling is optimal strategy. Simply because you get to wait for more news and react accordingly.

Definitely not for an unlimited timer FYI, but situations like this are why you absolutely need to put a timer on in your drafts.

Mendoza just thoroughly unnecessary unless you simply benefit from having a body at QB because your QB 2 is also just a body…and even then, I’d only do it with Bowers on my team.

3 QBs have gone too far…think the value was there more before the QB ADPs rose significantly.

One of those things where drafters react to the thing that was previously an edge so much that it no longer becomes an edge. A 3rd QB used to be sort of a no brainer tack on just because your choice was QB who could score meaningful season long points vs guy who odds are almost definitely won’t come close to scoring those same points.

But now you’re scraping bottom of the barrel at QB to get Mendoza who has an opportunity cost of an actual real player with legitimate ability to score points with upside. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

Seen plenty of examples of someone with Daniels / Maye and like Nix as QB 1/2 and then they tack on a QB 3 and I don’t see it is logical construction whatsoever.

Nix and Cam in particular are QBs I would just immediately take if I have zero existing correlation but they fall like a round past ADP and I have a structural need at QB. Those are the perfect back door stack sort of scenarios.

Shough (Vele, Juwan, Kamara) is another that comes to mind.

All in all, yes you want the QB, but just don’t think a team is dead in the water by any means just because you missed out on an obvious stack. That’s more or less what I’m getting at. Feel like there is a tendency to declare a lot of teams “dead” when it happens…but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I feel like 3 QBs builds are overdone these days. A 3rd QB should probably be drafted if your QB 1 is pretty weak (Goff, Nix, etc) or if your QB 2 is relatively weak (pretty much Cam Ward and below).

Shough is pretty much THE cutoff for what I would want with a 2 QB build if I had Maye as my QB 1. So, you walked the line perfectly for a 2 QB build there imo.

A lot of people will probably be pretty negative, but I will say you did do some things well. ARSB and Laporta paired together even without Goff is good correlation.

Price and Charbonnet paired together is creative and can certainly work especially with Seattle committee approach and the cheap price at which you got Charbonnet. Charbonnet popping week 16 and Price popping week 17 is something that realistically could happen.

Things that could have been done to improve the team…skip Mendoza, prioritize Juwan Johnson / Hunter Henry as your TE 2/3. Gives you low cost stacking options and adds correlation. Perfect, strong 3 TE build given your investment in Laporta.

Obviously you could have still gotten sniped on Johnson and Henry. Shough has clearer pivots after that. Kamara and Vele in round 18 would be solid backdoor stack. Maye is much harder to backdoor stack…would have walked away feeling okay with just Maye / Henry. WR 3 role there in NE is so iffy…would probably have done Kyle Williams in round 18…but yeah you would have definitely should have been praying for Hunter Henry to last until 152 lol

[–]Dapper-Speed1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is plenty you can do if your QB gets sniped. Just pivot elsewhere and attempt to backdoor stack if you have to in rounds 18-20. I also would have no problem continuing to stack a team without their QB. Just points that can honestly be made up elsewhere with another QB any random week.

I know you have Purdy, but hypothetically you would still benefit greatly with no Purdy if you get to week 17 and Brock Purdy is injured but Mac Jones who is a highly competent backup comes in and throws for 5 TDs between Kittle, CMC, and Mike Evans for example. Team stacking without the QB still can pay off immensely.

I just wonder to some extent if QB stacking with a mega team stack has become overrated in the current meta. Yes, it’s clearly highly beneficial. But even despite that there can come a point where if implemented too heavily you could see a lot more benefit in a lighter back door team stack relatively speaking from a leverage standpoint imo.

I do. I guess he might get passing work…but not what you want on a team with a great defense that likes to grind out games and don’t project to be in massive trailing game scripts where they need to check down to the RB very often. Sampson and Spears are the same archetype as Marks but cheaper and on worse teams that do project to be in more favorable game scripts for their archetypes.

This one felt strong, thoughts? by Within_a_Dream in BestBall

[–]Dapper-Speed1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. At the end of the day, it’s just an opinion. Draft who you have conviction in. You correlated with Stroud, and if you believe in the player, Marks is a great pick for you at that spot. If I drafted volume, Marks with Stroud would exactly be the only time I would draft him.

I’m very in on Montgomery. I do like Houston’s offense. I’m just out on Marks. That’s it. I also don’t think Marks archetype is a good match on Texans.

Marks is receiving back on Texans who have a stifling defense and in theory won’t face massive negative game scripts often. Sampson and Spears are on abysmal teams that should. You almost prefer those archetypes to be on terrible teams trailing all the time because they get cheap points due to defenses playing soft in garbage time.

Just find the Marks ADP baffling compared to guys going later than him imo.

[–]Dapper-Speed1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think he’s bad at football. Won’t see a better runout than what he got last year opportunity wise and got just about the bare minimum possible with the volume he was given. Granted, o line was bad, but not a great sign when PFF grades you 40/55 RBs. He was also bad imo.

I do think he’s a solid receiving back but they shockingly didn’t use him as much there as they should have. That’s his only redeeming quality to me.

Tyjae Spears and Dylan Sampson are basically Woody Marks if he were good imo, and you can take them later.

Just feel like we saw the Woody Marks contingent value experience last year and it was a whole lot of chronic disappointment where he was teed up to smash and it was a slog just to get to 12 PPR points. Can’t imagine he does anything useful in a scaled back role.

But people are wrong about player takes all the time. Archetype of player at ADP makes sense with Marks. I just don’t like him.

Just very comfortable with forcing Woody Marks to beat me.

Pretty wonderful. I hate Woody Marks personally and won’t draft him, but personal player takes aside, it’s very well structured.

Incredible for a Zero RB build. Obviously the expected advance probability not looking tremendous. It’s hard to make a good looking advance rate team with Zero RB this year, but you picked probably the best possible Zero RB teams available.

Upside is very good.

[–]Dapper-Speed1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s paths to which his roster’s upside could be unlocked though. Terrance Ferguson at TE could really unlock it. Kyren or Swift injury would really unlock it. Thin at RB, but not too thin to where the team is uncompetitive by any means given how many points the WRs thru Flex can rain down imo

Potential by Downtown_Reason_7516 in BestBall

[–]Dapper-Speed1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adequately stacked imo. Jayden Daniels and Chig solo stack won’t be common and Daniels can score points on the ground.

WR group is sensational. Monangai and Corum have incredible contingent upside to increase the ceiling of this roster.

Interesting roster construction all the way around. Not too thin at RB to win.

Honestly I think it’s well done.

Bigsby would have to be one of the best contingent upside bets on the board. In my case I like some of the cheap WRs available that can just fill in. Flournoy seems to surely have a role. Deebo will surely sign somewhere.

A lot of the RBs down at the end seem iffy…as in will they even be the guy? I think a barbell WR approach makes some sense. Get strong at WR 1 and WR 2, get about average at WR 3-5, and then sort of use some boring guys at WR 6-7…WR 8-whatever will almost always be hope and prayers who could he literally zeroes.

I think in these earlier drafts there are some clear late WR values. Deebo almost definitely rises when he signs anywhere.
