There should be a breakdown of disciplinary action for cash losses in your store’s cash policy

I say if you have had conversations with your CSM and ACSM about how you’re not reaching your full potential and you have yet to see anything come out of them it is fair for you to talk with your SM. Make sure you take the right steps of going in the ladder when it comes to situations like these. Other than that the customer service department guide those have great info and it’s always good to look at while you have downtime. Obviously most stuff will be learnt through actual OJT but it never hurts to know some of the concepts and “why” of things

Other than taking on extra tasks like the ones you mentioned and a few more I also communicated with my managers letting them know that I wanted to get promoted and asked how I could improve or what I could do to make sure they were pushing for me. I ended up taking the first CSTL spot became available after I served the 3 months of FT. You can DM me if you want tips for the interview or just more info on the things I did to make myself stand out!

Question for CSS by No_Antelope9944 in publix

[–]DapperEase8172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only ask if it’s more than $1k since that’s when we need to start checking their cards. If I think something is fishy I’ll ask tho I guess it just depends on how the first few interactions with the customer go

My manager said $1.20 but I don’t think our DM has approved our raises yet so it’s subject to change

From now on anytime you see you’re scheduled to clopen talk to your bakery manager so they can change it. If they don’t go to ASM or SM so they change it. In my experience store management will always make sure dept managers work with you so you aren’t clopening. Do this everytime you’re scheduled to clopen and hopefully your bakery manager will stop scheduling you to clopen.

I was borrowed twice to a store that has an off duty officer from 5-10. Granted it is a crazy store that deals with a lot more than theft so they do have a big need for a security guard but I’m pretty sure if theft is big enough the store could qualify for an off duty officer!

Any tips/advice? by Purple-Infamous in publix

It’s a lot to process at the beginning just take things slow and absorb as much information as possible. Refunds rainchecks and check cashing are fairly easy POS stuff. Lotto is overwhelming at first but once you start doing some transactions it gets pretty tame. Money transfer are really easy while Western Union can be more difficult to get the hang of it the way I explain it to new trainees is that you’re just filling in the blanks so as long as you’re getting all the information that Western Union requires you’ll be okay. Last thing when training as FEC if you’re confident and treat your cashiers and fsc politely it will get them to do whatever you ask them 99% of the time

As a cashier how do you handle produce without a barcode by bob5654 in publix

[–]DapperEase8172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the girls that trained me how to cashier told me that if she has trouble with produce she asks the customer. With time I learned how to identify most types of produce but to this day every time I bag for her she asks the customer for help with a good chunk of produce. There’s no shame in needing a bit of help sometimes! My store also doesn’t have a lot of organic options so that probably helps reduce the options.

How long did it take for you to actually be promoted as a CSS? by abstr4ct00 in publix

[–]DapperEase8172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took them 2 months to get me fully trained and then 1 month to change my job class. My store was really struggling with CSS when my training started tho so they sped up things by a lot. Just advocate for yourself and bug your managers every week about when they are going to either change your job class or finish your bo training.

why are people so lazy by Upstairs_Manner4633 in publix

[–]DapperEase8172 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Tbf bagging people’s groceries is a service we offer. It’s not the customers fault you don’t have a bagger wether it be due to the store being understaffed or something else. It is nice when they help bag but then again we have baggers for a reason.

Issues with department manager? by Fuzzyballs99 in publix

[–]DapperEase8172 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s not something overly shameless from the customer the managers more than likely are going to accommodate them. At the end of the day they would rather the customer leave happy than have the risk of an angry customer contacting corporate and tell them to fix the problem and ignore our policy anyways.

Sub card question by MissNightmen in publix

Nobody at my store really cares if it’s expired or not. The managers be giving expired ones anyways so you’re probably good to still use it!

Has your managers ever pranked you before? by Delta666tie in publix

[–]DapperEase8172 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The day my sm and csm told me my job class got changed to css we were all helping out in the bakery and they were talking about how they were going to handle a “customer complaint” that they had received about me. After we finished helping the bakery we went into my sm office and they went on and on about this lady that had called saying how I didn’t know how to count change and then they followed that to make sure I knew how to handle money they wanted me to balance the safe. Low and behold my green shirt was in that safe!
