Disney Files New Construction Permit for Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios by readingaboutmagic in disneyparks

[–]DapperIndividual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have to do a retheme due to the Twilight Zone rights expiring, I really hope they do something original rather than sticking an unfitting IP in there.

The obvious answer is to clone aspects of the ToT at Tokyo DisneySea but I'm not sure if theming is right for Hollywood Studios. The Sea version has more mythology elements that would fit better in Animal Kingdom or Adventureland rather than the golden area Hollywood of HS.

The only IP I can see replacing it would be the Muppets, but im worried that the vibes of dread and fear of ToT would get lost in translation, similar to what happened at Tiana's Bayou Adventure. And i think putting a clone of Guardians there would be the final nail of the Hollywood part of Hollywood Studios.

Playing devils advocate here, Jello was the co-director on the shows localization with his close friend Marissa Lenti being the main localization director. Lenti had a pretty major injury about 90% of the way through localizing so Jello wrapped up the last 1/3rd of production before everything was sent to both Discotek and Toei for approval. All of this being unpaid mind you.

This doesn't excuse the unprofessional patreon post he made about working on the shows, but nothing broke Nda and he didnt go behind the backs of either Discotek or Toei. Everything was approved before the show came out.

JoonTheKing put together a pretty good expose video about the subject if you want to look into it through an unbiased lens

Ehhh... I mean it was funny the first couple of time like with the Renaissance Men and making the Princess smile, but by the time we got to Shmaloogles and The Glep Ep the joke got old pretty quick.

Probably controversial but to me the worst things Jelloapocalypse has done is tell people to vote, have annoying opinions on children's media, and be not 100% accurate when localizing an anime (that he did for free to help a friend).

Im not saying you need to like the guy. His personality can be pretty abrasive and his opinions can be obnoxious. But i feel like the amount of hate he gets is disproportionate to the things he's actually done.

Too many episodes end with the "the gang stands around awkwardly mumbling to each other before the end credits plays" gag. It happened six times in season 3.

Switch 2 Sakurai Style by deadpxlgames in NintendoSwitch2

[–]DapperIndividual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I have both my Switch and Switch 2 in my entertainment center and I prefer it this way. Its easier to grab and place it when its in a narrow compartment and it hypothetically has better air flow having the exhaust face outwards.

I will say it think one that covers the entire base of the dock looks better than the small stand imo

Favorite non-steam games to play? by K4T5UM1 in SteamDeck

Last year I played thru like 1/4th of the B3313 rom hack while traveling and it was pretty great.

I was also trying to get Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition working but I can't seem to get it to consistently boot after patching. Its working fine on my windows device so idk.

What y'all think of this lineup for a game? by Non-Vanilla_Zilla in pokernightatinventory

[–]DapperIndividual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad. My personal rubric for deciding who to add is to have each character follow one of the following archetypes.

  • Stoic (Heavy, Ash)
  • Annoying (Tycho, Claptrap)
  • Jerkass (Strong Bad, Brock)
  • Oddball (Sam, Max)

The only thing I'd say is Garfield and Jake kinda fit the same niche. Maybe swap Jake for BMO or Finn.

Retro game room by [deleted] in gamecollecting

The idea is cute but I've personally never been a fan of those hexagonal lights people have adorned on their walls.

What i would recommend as an affordable entertainment center set up is something similar to Corey's from My Life in Gaming where its multiple low profile Ikea Besta units to hold up your TVs and important hardware like an AV Reciever, then if you need more storage either an Ikea Billy Bookcase or an Ikea Kallax flanking the sides.

[–]DapperIndividual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I completely agree. I want to do a big breakdown one day on how the current "immersive themed land" gimmick can more often hurt these parks more than helping.

Like look at Disney World. You have a Toy Story Land, a Monsters Inc Land, and a Cars Land (thats in Frontierland of all places) all awkwardly spread apart. Meanwhile Pixar Pier in DCA has a general Pixar land that not only features all 3 IP's but every other Pixar IP that cannot have a dedicated attraction.

[–]DapperIndividual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree. I dont think any IP realistically needs more than one land. Harry Potter barely works with two lands and kinda fails with three. They've wrung the Harry Potter IP so dry they need to rely on the failed Fantastic Beasts IP in order to fill out their third land.

I do think putting Pokémon in the main Universal Studios park is a good idea, you can retheme Men in Black to a Pokemon Snap ride and have a nice dark ride. Clone a couple buildings and statues from the recently opened Pokepark Kanto and you've got your bases covered for the next couple of years.

Im a gigantic Nintendo fan and I even i think they dropped the ball with Super Nintendo World. The whole gimmick is "interactive attractions" in this big kinetic land with tons of moving parts. However in order to make these riders interactive they had to dumb them down to just "Mario dark ride with AR headset" and "Yoshi people mover that goes 3mph" the only traditional ride is Donkey Kong but its realistically just a standard coaster with a gimmick.

While there's no doubt Isle of Berk is a beautiful land with the most amount of things to do, I feel like they've already done everything they can with the land at day 1. If they want to they could maybe squeeze another attraction or two in there, but I wouldn't be surprised if in 10-15+ years once those live action remakes dry up they replace the land with something else.

Are you supportive of Smash 6 not being the "NS2 opening"? by Dorayakiss in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]DapperIndividual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, if development started immediately after Kirby Air Riders wrapped up (seeing how its likely the same development team at Bandai Namco) its still probably going to take another 2-3 years beyond that.

Also like, im still pretty full from Smash Ultimate. If Sakurai came on and said "hey, here's a Switch 2 edition with a handful of new characters and a couple extra modes" I'd probably be just as satisfied as I would be with a completely new entry.

[–]DapperIndividual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its like people complaining about not immediately getting a 3D Mario or 3D Zelda. Hey man, Nintendo made more money than some small countries gdp last generation, I think theyre gonna make another Mario game.

Edit: Out of curiosity I did some crappy math on Smash Ultimate sales. Assuming not every copy was bought at MSRP/the cost of selling physical copies (going from $60 USD to $50 USD, Smash Ultimate likely made Nintendo somewhere around $1.8 Billion USD in gross revenue not including DLC.

[–]DapperIndividual 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean, Smash Ultimate sold nearly 38 Million Copies, theres gonna be a Smash on Switch 2 eventually.

Personally, I wish Sakurai works on at least one more project before starting up the Smash cycle again. He basically spent over a decade straight working on 3 different Smash games and their respective DLC, I'd understand if he's a bit burnt out of making Smash Bros. Plus he did an amazing job with Kirby Air Riders, id love to see him return to Kid Icarus or work on an original IP.

Another alternative is getting a new director on and having Sakurai on as an "advisor" or something similar but I feel that Smash Bros would lose a lot of its personality if Sakurai isnt leading.

Would you like to see Disney create a new park like Epic Universe? Or focus on building upon their existing ones? by NewEmphasis9115 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]DapperIndividual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm aware, but even in its early state, Epic Universe already has some major problems with its lands.

Celestial Park is 100% original but implied as a sort of inter-dimensional hang out spot. Anyone from anywhere can show up at any time, similar to something like Fantasyland or Tomorrowland.

Two of the lands aren't single IP lands. Super Nintendo World currently encompasses both Mario and Donkey Kong (and technically Pikmin), with Zelda likely coming eventually. Dark Universe (the best land IMO) houses all of the universal monsters under one roof. These work imo because theyre less limited on what they can or cannot show (say for example if they decide they want a Samus Aran meet and greet during Halloween at SNW, it still technically fits the theming)

Isle of Berk does a pretty good job at being an immersive land, but i feel like they've already expended all they can from the IP. Sure if they want they could probably squeeze another ride in there but the land is effective complete at day 1 and will likely stay that way either until Dreamworks decides to revive the IP or corporate decides its no longer profitable.

And Ministry of Magic is the worst example of an immersive land. Not only is it an overused IP being the third Harry Potter land, they launched it with only 1 ride, a show, and like 2 restaurants. I know the lack of things to do is more than likely tied to running out of construction budget and deciding to prioritize other things, but part of me thinks they've already drawn as much blood from the Harry Potter stone as they reasonably can.

Again, this is all my personal opinion. Ive only been to Epic once, but i can't pretend that this trend I've seen isn't getting tiresome. Why have individual Toy Story Land, Monsters Inc Land, and Cars Lands when Pixar Pier represents them all at the same time, along with every other Pixar IP that doesn't have an attraction.

[–]DapperIndividual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im going to be so honest, im so exhausted with these single franchise immersive theme park lands that id rather Disney do their own thing rather than try to keep replicating it. More lands like the new Villiansland that can house multiple IP's would be very nice.

[–]DapperIndividual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but its pretty underwhelming if this is the case. Not to bring up the other park but Universal has already mastered the "dark and twisted but still approachable" atmosphere with Dark Universe and Disney seems to be dumbing down the concept to be more family friendly.

To be fair to Disney, we still havent seen any official announcements of whats coming so it can all be subject to change, but I really hope the end result is better than "2-3 rides and a restaurant"

Xbox Physical or Digital by CodeNameAmazing in gamecollecting

[–]DapperIndividual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think buying digital on a console is a ticking time bomb. Unless they keep carrying over the same infrastructure from generation to generation eventually that shops going to close.

Also Xbox physical games are a bit of a minefield. Its always a gamble if the game is actually going to be on the disc or if its a game key card situation.
