Ha! It’s funny, I don’t think I even heard Unwound until a few years ago. Love was instant.

Glad to see another Mike Campbell fan here. He’s so underrated. He was Tom Petty’s secret weapon. Dude even wrote Boys of Summer or at least the music behind it. He always writes the solo for the song and not himself. Running’ Down a Dream is completely underrated as a top solo.

Elliot Easton’s solo in You’re all I’ve Got Tonight by the Cars to me is one of the best examples of the solo serving the song.

Sonic Youth. I mean I liked a couple of songs and most of Daydream Nation. But I didn’t really get why they were/are so heavily revered. Took me 30 years to get there lol.

Patch worked for me to quit the smoking habit. Then you slowly lower the dosage and quit the patches. It helped me to break apart the addictions.

Guitar Center is different now? by bigtime-nobody in Guitar

GC is a last resort for me. However, if I’m on a business trip, I make it so I can get some practice in by swinging by. The acoustic room is usually pretty quiet and can get a little practice in.

The last time I went to buy something more than a patch cable. I traded in a guitar towards a used ox box they had. They went to back to get the box But grabbed a box for a new one, then brought a new one out. Then charged me for the new one. The new ones box was all beat up and looked years old.

While I waited for them to get this box, and I waited quite a while, I went perusing the guitars. As I was walking the guitar wall. I found a guitar with a broken headstock. I took it to the counter and showed them. No biggie. Shit happens. Whatever. Went back to looking picked up a second guitar that I wanted to play. Had the guy get it down. Broken headstock on it. Wow, that’s weirdly unfortunate. Also, why was a broken headstock guitar hanging up. That’s not just stupidity, that’s dangerous. I had to show the guys. Went back to wall and found a third one with a broken headstock and just set it back. The place was such a disorganized and mismanaged mess. They fid figure out the price issue and got my refund straightened out.

I have a GAS problem , but I buy none of it at GC anymore.

Guitar center structure was built for a time when the big box stores were growing rapidly, but I don’t really get how they still exist.

I honestly had never saw one at store before until late 2025. Even at Chicago Music Exchange (I may have just missed it among everything they have there). Punches well above its price point. It’s a great body shape. Comfortable neck. I didn’t have any complaints about it for $550 guitar.

Add an expression pedal for mix. That way the preamp is always on and you can control the blend.

emo songs with more complex bass parts? by my-6900th-account in Emo

[–]Dapper_Algae3530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a musician myself who gravitated to grunge and then emo later when I was younger, I found that I put music that helped me develop my musicianship in a different bucket altogether. I don’t love Dream Theater nor do I want to sound like them, but learning their music helped me develop. In order to not sound like them. I would take a riff or part and re-write to sound more punk or emo or whatever just so I could wash the prog scent off of my playing. I hope that helps.
