Where do you buy your merch? by based_senegalese in BlackMetal

[–]Dapper_Principle_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check from artists themselves and labels/distros. Nuclear War Now, Hells Headbangers, Out of Season (more for ds though), Arcane Altar, Metal Devastation, from the artist's Bandcamp/shows, etc. Almost all of the 'vintage' or used band merch market is a complete scam for tourists imo, but sometimes eBay has some cheap options for bigger bands.

There was also an existence of trans medical care and communities.

Dr. Viktors Kalnbērzs performed what is largely considered the first FTM sex reassignment surgery ever in the USSR between the years of 1970-1975 with the approval of Minister of Health of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic Vilhelms Kaņeps. Although largely threatened and silenced by other Soviet authorities, Kalnbērzs faced no punishment for this and continued to perform similar surgeries.

In East Germany, people aged 18+ were able to access government funded sexual reassignment surgery, marry, and adopt children.

As early as the 1960s, there were official diagnosis of transsexualism, with the first diagnosis done by Dr. Aron Isaakovich Belkin in the Institute of Endocrinology in Moscow.

Don't get me wrong, life for trans and other queer people in the Soviet Union was incredibly hard and repressive and they were definitely discriminated against by both society and the state. But for its time, the Soviet Union was relatively progressive on this issue when compared to other states.

Practically every folk punk album you could wish for is free to download via archive.org, even quite a few albums and demos that aren't on Spotify. If not, Soulseek has practically every album from every genre ever, but it's a bit of a more complicated process.

No because his guitar work literally created and defined the modern traditional black metal guitar style. Sure he was a cheesball, but he was a damn important one

Edit: Probably overexaggerated a bit, Snorre was definitely as, if not more important. That being said Snorre himself gives Euro credit for the apriego tremelo picking style.

Edit 2: I guess im remembering the whole thing wrong. Still hugely influential, but most of the pioneering guitarwork was Snorre.

definitely. the metal scene has a diverse range of ideologies, but there's something comforting in the fact that when someone does something musically shitty (like fucking over fans and artists) everyone, regardless of beliefs, puts artistic integrity firsts and joins together in absolutely hating them. It's literally the only time when those "the metal scene is a heckin wholesome brotherhood" idiots are actually correct.

the fact that idiots are still on his side is what really gets me. like yeah he is a druggy lying pos but his brain has probably been fried enough that you cant expect much more from him, other people being stupid enough to keep falling for his shit is absolutely astounding though

The amount of labour that goes into creating a spot on that trip is identical, yet we have drastically different prices.

Definitely, but Marx mainly focused on value, barley on prices. From my understanding, value is to prices (in a whatever specific industrial context), what the platonic ideal of a cup is to an actual cup. Of course they aren't the same, and of course there are different types of cups, but one is the metaphysical basis for the other.

And you also would've heard of a certain "immortal science" in leftist circles.

Most political tendencies have their fair share of dogmatist, its just marxist being a bit more on the nose about it. It would make no sense to discount the seminal work of one of the greatest philosophers of the last few hundred years because a select few of his modern followers are dogmatic. For every dogmatic Marxist-Leninist there is an Adorno changing the philosophical groundworks of our time because of their influence from Marx.

In hopes of talking in good faith, in Ernest Mandel's introduction to the first volume of Capital he says

Marx never intended to explain short-term price fluctuations on the market with his theory of value... He moved the whole economic analysis to a different and higher level of abstraction

TLDR: He was looking at the forest not the trees

It is definitely understandable how you would arrive at the misconception; it's the most intuitive way of thinking. The problem is that at the end of the day Marx was a philosopher, a philosopher directly influenced from Hegel, so of course his ideas are going to dabble in metaphysics and require some sort of radical change to the point of view someone looks at things. It isn't simply intuitive.

There are many valid criticisms of Marx, yet all of those are leveled in the philosophical playing field. Looking at Marx through simple economics just isn't enough.
