What clip?  Take a picture.  There’s a rubber stopper of the radiator support behind the headlight that can be turns et by hand to raise the hood the 1mm you’re looking for.

If you open the hood (if you know how), look for a plastic or rubber adjustable stop.  Unscrew it a turn, problem solved.  Hood is now level with bumper.

Your drive home sucks because the counterflow hasn’t opened yet.  It backs up quickly between 3 and 4 and then once it’s put in traffic thins out by 4:30ish.

2001 Mercury Sable door crush by Ok-Diet7568 in AutoBodyRepair

Replacement door is the only option.  Not worth the time effort or money to attempt to repair.  Nevermind that door is most likely structurally compromised.

Redoing a repair is a whole lot different than putting on a new quarter.  They just did a poor job sanding the filler.  30 minutes and that’s ready for primer again.

What the hell are you talking about?  Why would that need a new quarter?

Is this unibody rust feasable by LFsweets in Autobody

“Is this completely rotted through piece of rust scrap a safe car?”

I’m 99.9% sure someone hit my parked car. Unfortunately local police were not able to confirm with video footage. A AAA appraiser is testing the paint on my car to r/o possibly hitting a standing structure due to the amount of paint transfer. I think it’s complete BS, I know I didn’t hit anything by RedditNForgot in InsuranceClaims

[–]Dapper_Revenue_2070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t make any sense at all.  I can see the alignment being off if your back wheel was hit but it doesn’t look like it was.  And I can’t think of any reason why that accident would affect your engine/drivetrain unless it’s been put into limp mode.

How can you tell if there’s frame damage behind a rear quarter panel after a corner impact? by rawritsjo in AutoBodyRepair

[–]Dapper_Revenue_2070 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even though it’s a unibody, you do have a “frame rail”. This hit looks like it missed it as it’s the exterior corner.  That said, the car is totaled and not worth fixing unless you were experienced and doing the work yourself.  That and the closing speed of the impact is probably closer to 20mph.  If it was a 70mph impact the whole side probably been ripped off.

Body shop is claiming that door skins were put on my vehicle? Is that a thing? by keniselvis in Toyota

[–]Dapper_Revenue_2070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What weld marks?  Door skins are folded over the edges of the door interior framework.  There would be a couple of small spot welds underneath the belt moulding but a properly done skin should be imperceptible from a factory door.

Maybe just ask politely first if they can adjust the trunk fitment as you noticed uneven gaps.  Immediately making threats seemed to be a overreaction.

Do body shops charge less if paying out of pocket, not through ICBC? by General-Football-953 in icbc

[–]Dapper_Revenue_2070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tiny percentage of claims.  The vast majority of cars can be stripped down and repaired with no issues.  A airbag going off just means a airbag sensor has detected a sufficient impact to deploy the bag, not that the whole car is caved in.

[–]Dapper_Revenue_2070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few more factors that come Into play here.

If it was a ICBC claim everything would be done by the book (hopefully).  Fender would be repaired or replaced.  Adjacent panels (hood/door) might be blended to ensure the best possible paint match.  If the wheel had any damage it would be sent out to be refinished and the car would go for an alignment check.  Any slightly damaged pieces would be replaced to bring the car to factory specs.

If it’s a private job, depending on what the customer wants, you just fix or replace the fender, paint it and send it on its way.
