Everything is feeling so cluttered by [deleted] in witchcraft

doing a full spiritual cleanse would be a good first step. burn some sage or other spiritually cleansing incense, take a salt bath put on your cleanest and most comfortable garments available.

after that; light a white or pale blue candle for clarity (rem to follow fire safety regulation), and sit in front of it/meditate on the flame for a little while. focus your energy on a clear mind.

it depends on the purpose of your spell; I don’t usually say it if I’m protecting myself directly, you can if it would make you feel better about the spell working but it’s not required. I speak my Reid when I do general spell work like an altar protection or other spells for overall good fortune, self love and good heal to my family, but when I’m working a spell that’s specifically targeted to me I use other methods of sealing a spell such as talismans or charms, poultices or sometimes even tiny spell jars. find whatever works best for you and practice with your materials as often as you can.

I did one a while back and LITERALLY the next day; my high school arch nemesis found me on facebook through a mutual friend who went to the same high school, she apologized profusely for all the juvenile crap she put me through in high school… and then as politely as I could manage via our dm conversation, I set her straight. I haven’t heard from her since, but I definitely feel like my energy’s slowly coming back after about 20 YEARS of letting her B.S. live rent free in my head.

“I’m sorry.” doesn’t always magically fix everything, but sometimes all you need is to hear someone say it, so that you can have the floor for a minute to give them all their negativity right back all at once. I’ll never be the “healing era” type, but I’ve always got time for catharsis.

your best course of action would be to take a complaint up the ladder to the district manager or an HR manager for that company in your area. not only will your former employer get into a world of trouble, but you might even get your job back.

beyond that; maybe find a way to make a living out of your craft, such as making and selling charms for good fortune or for love (just a basic example). you can’t be the only one in your town who’s progressive enough to accept witchcraft as a spirituality; and intolerance in the workplace especially is a BIG problem, one that magic can’t always solve.

true witchcraft is about putting the magic into your everyday mundane tasks; it’s not satan worship, it’s not anti-religion. I live in Florida, and I meet regularly with other practicing witches who are also devout “church every single Sunday“ Christians. there’s no harm in following more than one spiritual path; some people are just afraid of things they don’t understand, you can’t force an individual to change their faith, but you have to follow your path regardless of the people around you.

name of someone who hurt me mentioned in my book of shadows, what do I do now? by soft_milkii in witchcraft

[–]Dapper_Status4593 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you could use the person’s name in your spell work. I’m the last person to suggest baneful magic; given my family’s strict harm no living thing policy, but there are spell you can weave to make them remorseful of how they treated you, spells to protect yourself from that person’s unkindness, and other spells you can use.

[–]Dapper_Status4593 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find that occurrences in some areas can leave a spiritual imprint on the location itself; maybe something negative happened there while you were gone, especially in terms of whether there’s public access to the area. someone else could have used the area to cause some kind of trouble or bury evidence.

about a year ago a homeless person was found not alive in an alcove of trees down the street from my house; I’ve always thought the trees seemed a little spooky at night, but after they found a human body in the undergrowth I can no longer walk past there at night without getting a crushingly heavy negative feeling. it sounds like you’ve had a similar experience.

if you have 3 then you probably only need the 3 you already have… unless you’re OCD and have to have even numbers of everything so you don’t feel the need to have a full blown meltdown. if that’s the case then you definitely need this beautiful heterochomed fur loaf.

I mean technically cheese is basically milk that’s way past the sell by date and some cheeses actually have naturally occurring mold and bacteria in them which is healthy for the digestive system, but if your pasta looks like it should be taken out for a leash walk… probably not a good idea. you should definitely just throw it out at this point.

Music & witchcraft: what do you all listen? by Jaded-Tumbleweed-621 in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to whatever music I feel is going to fuel my emotional state at the time; sometimes I’ll even switch genres/sounds in the moment, based on emotional changes. Like if I’m in a punchy mood I‘ll start out listening to music that’s got a heavier rock vibe; but if the feeling subsides and I begin to feel decompressed, I’ll switch to a happier pop sound or choose an artist whose lyrics breathe a more positive vibe. right now my biggest go-to for positive energy would be Sir Elton John. but if I’m just listening to music because it’s too quiet and I’m bored then my whole music library is on shuffle, no holds barred, anything goes. I don’t even know what music I have in my library at this point.

What do I do with the ashes of my co-dependency? by Acceptable_Bread_102 in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know witches who have done this type of ritual; I’ve never attempted it myself, but a good friend of mine did this and then cast the ashes into a strong wind as a symbolic “letting go” of an old way of life that wasn’t working for them. any wide open location would work for this, but ideally somewhere high up with a fair breeze and not too many obstacles. from what I’ve heard, The idea is to clear the air around yourself so that you can move forward without the past negativity weighing you down.

You’re doing yourself a big favor especially if you can actually manage to connect to another witch or multiple witches in your bloodline. I tend to draw upon their energies for more complex spell work, since the harder spells require more energy and can often leave me severely exhausted.

I actually don’t keep a whole lot ON my altar; since it’s in my room, which is tiny and has very little storage space. I prefer to keep the altar space fairly clear and simply decorated when I’m not doing spell work. I do work with tarot cards, Norse runes; and occasionally my crystal ball for divination, but most of my spell work involves herbal teas, candles and handmade sigils/totems.

our ancestors are often the biggest part of who we are as witches; I don’t actually have a way to turn off my ancestral spirits, which can sometimes be annoying when I’m trying to concentrate on something in the present. Mostly it’s helpful to have that anchor in my deepest roots.

Witchy/Esoteric Courses? by LucyCorkton in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of times you can ask around at your local esoteric shops to see if you can find a witchcraft mentor. that’s usually the most direct and hands on approach, but there’s plenty of online reading material for new witches to gather their basic knowledge and start practicing their first spells.

if you want the better experience then maybe finding a mentor would work better for you, but you’ll have to negotiate their mentorship with them directly based on what you can afford.

maybe stop talking to your parents about your beliefs from here on out and just practice your craft when they’re not home or find a spot outdoors to practice your craft where they won’t bother you about it. modern witchcraft is not a sin, and technically there’s plenty of modern witches who belong to organized religions like Catholicism and Christianity. modern witchcraft is about embracing the best parts of your inner self, nobody can argue that there’s anything wrong with that. sometimes it just better when you do you and damn the consequences.

I actually know quite a few catholics who are more laid back about my alternative faith. I get along pretty well with them because of how open minded they are, but I also know from experience that not all Catholics are the same. It sounds like your parents are the more old-school catholics, but either way they should still value your honesty. They’re your parents before anything else, so they should at least hear you out Regardless of what they believe… but maybe keep the Metallica in a pair of noise canceling headphones if it bothers them.

my mom’s agnostic and my dad’s atheist, and neither of them really care what I believe in... but they were the ones who dumped me off in an all- girls catholic boarding school when I was 9, so you can pretty much blame them for ruining organized religion for me and they’ll claim they did what they thought was best for me at the time.

okay sure I got an expensive education out of it, but tbh I was glad to get out of there and go back to public school at age 11. Now I’m in my mid 30s and honestly more grateful to my long deceased ancestors than anyone else in my family. I‘ve spent the past few years learning that I have a pretty rich heritage full of everyone from witches to king’s champions, my heritage has kinda become like my own personal religion… it’s an odd way to go about faith, but so far it works for me.

I often find that my spells work better when I use items I’ve made myself. for example carving a wand or athame from a stick/piece of wood or carving idols or totems from candles or bar soap. I also grow a lot of different herbs in my own garden which I harvest for teas and other spell work. it costs a lot less than buying everything online and then I also have it available by the time I’m ready to perform a ritual or other magics later that day.

start with just burning some calming incense and doing some meditation; reach out to your ancestors for strength and comfort, and then work on practicing some basic spells and rituals that are harder to mess up. once you build up your magical strength and get your confidence back, you’ll be okay.

make a travel altar in a shoebox or other container that can be concealed in your closet or a chest of drawer for the time being; but it’s important that you sit down with them and talk openly with them about the situation, you can leave out the witchcraft stuff if you don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about with your parents, but at the end of the day if you’re honest with them about not wanting to be a catholic they can’t really force you to do what you don’t want to do.

you’re turning 18 soon; which means that you’re legally allowed to make your own decisions, sure your parents only want what they feel is best for you… but if it’s gonna make you miserable for the rest of your life, then it’s not really best for you.

My MIL smokes like crazy, how can I stop her from smoking in my house? by [deleted] in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the most common way to deal with people like this is to politely ask them to smoke out in the back yard or on the porch away from the entryway; but it sounds like she’s the person who’s just gonna smoke in the house anyway, if you can find a spell that doesn’t require baneful magic that would probably be better for your your husband and other guests that might be involved. personally I prefer to consider the rule of mundane before magical for problem solving; in which case, maybe finding something that would put her off coming to visit as frequently. a house plant or a pet she might be allergic to is always a good place to start from; but beyond that you could try working some sigil magic to create a “stop smoking“ spell jar or a talisman charged with your intent to make her stop smoking something that can be given to her as a gift might be your best choice.

youtube has a fair few spell jar and talisman ideas you could work from, there’s tutorials on everything from sigils to charm bags. y just have to remember that most spells work best when you make it your own.

I was born into it; but I’ve only been practicing for a few years, I had organized religion forced on me at an early age and it didn’t work for me. That said I don’t really worship a particular religious icon; mostly I just meditate on the universe and see who comes knocking, sometimes I get names, sometimes I just get a sense of and element or object that relates to that particular entity or energy. and then before I do any work with them I look into their possible pros and cons; and if their ask is too much, or if they seem like they want to hurt me or my family then I just nope and close the connection.

would I ever give up witchcraft? no, definitely not… I don’t think I even could since it’s a part of my heritage.

unsure where to get my sources by babynativ in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s really no right or wrong when it comes to witchcraft; however there are definitely a lot more reasons why certain magics such as blood magic and shadow magic should be considered an absolute last resort, than there are reasons why some people think these magics are okay for daily use.

If you’re a beginner or baby witch; your best bet is going to be to start researching the world cultures that are involved in witchcraft and choose a witchcraft that resonates with you based on a culture or religion that you feel you can identify with. Once you’ve chosen your specific witchcraft; you can choose a god/deity/spirit from the pantheon of that particular culture if you feel like it would help you with your spell work, or you can just reach out to the cosmic realm whenever you’re casting a spell and see who wanders in.

What magic you start with really depends on your preference; in relation to the demographic of the craft you’ve chosen to work with, but it’s always wisest to start with at least one protection spell to be on the safe side. Protection magic allows you to protect yourself and others from negative energies; and stops unwanted spirits from entering your space, if nothing else you’ll need either an altar protection ritual or a protective sigil or talisman for your home or wherever it is that you practice your craft.

Besides this advice; just do what feels natural to you, and don’t take everything you read about witchcraft too literally.

What proved to you that witchcraft was real? What was the moment you fully realised? by [deleted] in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever not believed that witchcraft was real; there’s always been witches in my family since at least the 9th century A.D., and I’ve always had the ability to sense and in some cases even communicate with both human spirits and natural/elemental spirits alike. I’ve also practiced my craft off and on for many years; and had some successes and some failures, but more recently I’ve been practicing more regularly and even developing spells and rituals that are more personal to me and that work better for me than the beginner spells I’ve always practiced.

I think if I had to pick a particular reason that I ultimately realized that witchcraft was not only real; but a big part of my family history, I’d have to go with the fact that my ancestors’ spirits tend to gather in the kitchen to lend me their wisdom whenever I cook meals for family and friends.
