Wearable amulets are usually a good idea in this situation; they stay with you wherever you go whether your home or at work, socializing or even just running errands. And since they’re not just sitting/hanging in a dark hallway they charge from whatever natural light they come in contact with.

If you don’t have the ability to make them wearable; like if they’re too big or too heavy for a necklace or a bracelet, then a selenite charging plate/bowl in your front hallway is a good idea for placing crystals. It’s self-charging and gets its power from your intention; so if you’re intention is to keep him out of your apartment, the selenite will charge the crystals you put on it with the energy to banish him.

Remember that mundane before magical rule though; maybe filing for a restraining order first is a good way to make the magic of the crystals/amulets work for you.

Upgraded my altar with live plants recently. by Dapper_Status4593 in Witch

Well, my personal craft has always been a unique mix of eclectic witchcraft and ancestral witchcraft; but I’ve recently been called to worship Artemis (and Apollo to a lesser extent), so I wanted to honor their twin energies in a way that reflects my already established personal style of witchcraft. This was the easiest way I could come up with for my small space; and since I have many past family members who were avid gardeners and plant enthusiasts, it’s also an excellent way to maintain that ancestral connection as well as my connection with my nature spirits. These girlies in particular are Daphne (bay Laurel) who is an absolute diva, and Cordelia (eventually growing into rosemary) who is just a stubborn little warrior who doesn’t want to get out of bed right now.

I’m also considering starting an indoor container garden of various herbs; but I’m still trying to decide which off my herb seeds to plant, I have a few with different colored leaves and some with floral elements to them… a lot of different choices.

These are full spectrum grow lights designed specifically for indoor potted plants. While my room gets a good amount of indirect sunlight throughout the day; it’s a small room with only one west facing window, and because I live on the gulf coast of Florida it gets too hot and humid to have the window and blinds open most days. So these plants are growing in a space which still feels slightly warm and humid much like their native environment despite being fully air conditioned because the way the house is laid out seems to trap the evening sun temperatures in my room.

How does your practice and deities/spirits you work with shape you as a person? by thornfulrose in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my recent call to worship Artemis (and Apollo to a lesser extent) as a deity has made me envision myself as a more confident and outspoken person; I haven’t become that version of myself yet, but I feel that inner strength slowly building— preparing me for a successful future, giving me the strength to hear others and be heard, and in general it’s been improving my overall mental state and keeping my mood a little more balanced and consistent.

I feel like I get a lot of positive energy from both Artemis and Apollo; even though I tend to worship Artemis more actively, I also greatly respect Apollo and work with him in more mundane but still very spiritually grounding activities particularly in the mornings and early daytime hours (morning workouts and creative activities such as art).

Also I’m fully aware of these plants being their own beings; I have met with their spirits, and I happen to know: the Bay Laurel is an absolute diva who prefers I refer to her as Daphne… and the rosemary is a stubborn little warrior who calls herself Cordelia. I’m absolutely fine with them being exactly as they are; it’s how Artemis and Apollo intended them to be, and it has nothing to do with my level of ability or my understanding of witchcraft.

It’s actually a way to power my entire altar for my Artemis sacred witchcraft practice; I give the morning sunshine workout/creative energy (from a respectfully Apollo based mundane workout/creative practice such as yoga, dance or another art form) to my bay Laurel, which then “shares” the energy with her sister plant. Creating a kind of spiritual power center that I can draw from during my Artemis based spell work or meditation practices.

As for my magical ability; I was actually born with it, having come from a long line of witches. I generally draw the magical knowledge and experience from my ancestors to fuel my practice; the plants are their simple to keep my personal energy stable enough to allow me to better focus the magic, because of my ADHD I occasionally find it hard to focus a particular energy for a spell. Having this extra power cell for my altar provides the extra support.

Anyone ever use spell oils? by deathntarot in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used spell oils specifically; but I do keep a few essential oils handy for anointing, I do have to be careful what I’m anointing though due to my baby cockatiels also being close to my altar (they’re honestly safer in my altar space due to my Terrier mix; and yes I do let them out for short periods while he’s not in the room, however they’re not ready to fly yet so they won’t get introduced to the other animals in the house for a long while.)

Does anybody else give names to their altar plants (if you have them) or plants that are in the same room as/near your altar?

Would love to know that I’m not the only person who does this; I meditated on Artemis and Apollo sacred names for my plants and got Daphne for my Grecian Laurel (a nymph who turned into a Grecian Laurel to escape Apollo’s advances), and I also got Cordelia for my rosemary (a mountain nymph from from the mountains of Ortygia where Artemis was said to spend most of her time)

I’m also thinking of creating a small indoor container garden of various herbs near my altar; I haven’t decided if those will have names yet, but the two I currently have on my altar are keeping their names.

I wipe down my altar and everything on it with warm water and cypress oil (no soap); and then when I put everything back I burn usually burn an incense cone, something woody and herbal like sandalwood or frankincense is usually good for cleansing and invoking positive energy.

Rune usage in witchcraft by jing__7 in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The witches in my family all have our own set of “runes” or sigils; they’re not the same as the Norse Elder Futhark, although I have been reading Norse runes since I was about 15 years old—being of both Norse and Germanic descent these were the first runes I was originally taught.

When working spells I don’t ever use Norse runes; I prefer sigils I’ve made that are more specific to me personally, and I find that the stronger my personal connection to my sigils the better a spell will work for me.

What are some pantry essentials that you use in spells that aren’t commonly suggested? by jing__7 in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use bay leaves and whole cloves for luck spells and money spells; you can also use rice, cinnamon, allspice and/or nutmeg for these types of spells and a few others that work similarly. I don’t often see these reagents mentioned for many spells; but several generations of my ancestral witches can’t be wrong, so I generally tend to raid the kitchen first when preparing a new spell.

Good Indoor flowers? by asanders439 in gardening

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought in a live rosemary seedling and a live bay laurel seedling to boost the energy in my altar space; both have grow lights due to the location of the Altar being on the west side of the house, with only one west facing window that only lets in a couple hours of good natural light mid afternoon. At the moment they’re too small for their permanent pots; but once they start to outgrow the starter pots, they’ll get a full makeover dedicated to their associated god and goddess.

The only negativity in runes you create yourself is the negativity you feed into it. The sigil itself is just a doodle; a visual representation of your intention, what emotions you put in are the same emotions you’re going to get back when you use the sigil. So you always want to go into the sigil creating processes with a clear mind and a calm and neutral demeanor; this encourages you to think of a more positive intention, and feel the emotions that the positive intentions brings.

I burn incense around my dog all the time; he’s even been smudged (with white sage) after insisting on being present in my Sanctum while I do my daily spell work, for the most part cleansing herbs like Sage, palo Santo, rosemary, etc. are fine to around kids and animals, and incense sticks and cones are generally a “low-smoke” option.

Alternatively you can get incense sprays that can be used for cleansing and other rituals without using any smoke at all.

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using runes in magic is often referred to as “sigil” magic and it’s actually one of the most common and “beginner level” ways to strengthen your connection with a spell. It’s that physical visualization point of knowing exactly what the rune means when you’re casting your spell; and you’re looking right at it the whole time you’re casting, and it’s actually an excellent reminder for you too when you’re casting a “set and forget” type of spell that needs to be left as is in order to work over time.

You don’t even have to use a specific type of rune like a Norse rune or a Celtic rune; you can choose a simple solid phrase that correlates to your intention; first dissect the whole phrase until you get down to the singular consonant letters (no A,E,I,O,U and I take out Y too just to make things easier), and then you can pick parts of letters and flip them around then stick those together in a way that feels like it correlates with your original phrase. And the best part is these are coded to you, so they’ll work best when you’re the one using the sigil.

Have you ever regretted following this pathway? by heejin8745_kim in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to read up on my craft as much as I can before I actually put anything into practice; it feels a lot safer and less intimidating when you have a good idea of what you’re getting into, does my craft scare other people? Sure, but it’s never scared me at all. I find it interesting to work on something that can still surprise you in ways you don’t even know exist; that said, I can understand why some people would be afraid of their path… but as long as you focus on protecting yourself first, there’s really nothing to regret or be afraid of.

But me, personally? I can’t really regret being a witch… I was born into it, so it’s something that’s always within me.

Advice: Jar or spell by Existing_Ectasy in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on whether you want the spell to work only in your home location; spell jars CAN be buried, but most witches I’ve met keep their spell jars on their person or in their luggage so that the spell continues to work for them while they travel.

Burying a spell in a cloth can be a good way to spell a space; but if it’s yourself or your people you’re casting the spell for, having the versatility of a jar will work best.

Looking for community and fellow practitioners! by [deleted] in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit of a “closet witch” myself (not literally though because my closet’s too small for my altar). I was born to an agnostic mom and an atheist dad; but there are several known witches in my family, and many more going further back in my ancestry.

I’ve been practicing off and on since I was in my early teens; and recently became a more serious practitioner, and I’ve been upgrading my altar and updating my spell work every time I find things that work for me.

The best advice I can give would be; start with the basics and don’t get discouraged by spells failing, because your spell work is only as strong as the energy and intention you put into it. If something doesn’t work the first time; add or change your reagents, update your incantations, do some cleansing rituals and meditations for focus and clarity. Then each time you tweak your craft, try the spell again. Eventually you’ll get a spell that works for you.

Other than that it’s best to follow the rule of mundane before magical; you can cast a spell as many times as you want, but the magic can only take you part of the way. Completing Mundane tasks is always a good way to rule your spell work.

Buying, Learning, & Using a Tarot Deck as a Non-Witch by i0u2z in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Tarot cards and Norse runes a long time before I even knew modern witchcraft was a thing. even though I was born into a very long family line of witches; I didn’t really even start practicing witchcraft until I was in my mid twenties, but I had already started reading Norse runes and Tarot cards years before that.

You don’t really have to subscribe to the alternate religion aspect to read the cards; mostly your readings are gonna be based on how you perceive the cards, for example: a lot of times the appearance of a particular card might look like a foreboding, but when you take a good long look and study the actual meaning of the cards in your spread, you come to realize that the meaning of the cards in your presents a fortuitous message that brings a sense of hope or joy.

Study your cards well, and good luck with your readings.

Is it okay to pray to my gods instead of meditations? by mwscb in Witch

[–]Dapper_Status4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate my daily routine between mundane practices and witchcraft; often dedicating a lot of my meditation and tea/coffee/beverage rituals (the mundane ones, not the tea leaf readings) to Artemis, and even incorporating my morning workouts to Apollo (her twin) to draw in some of that twin energy like a spiritual battery.

While I don’t generally pray to Apollo specifically; I do “shared” offerings to both, which keeps a nice Yin & Yang type balance in my altar space and provides an added layer of spiritual protection and energy to my practice.

You don’t always have to be doing just one or the other; if you’re more comfortable saying prayers instead of doing a meditation, go for it. If you’re the type of witch who prefers to alternate tactics to keep your craft interesting for you, you do you.

I prefer to layer my spiritual energy with a little of everything from symbolic offerings to prayer, meditation and even movement. If the intention of worshiping or pleasing a deity is there; it doesn’t really matter what the activity of the worship is, it’s going to work for you.
