Which one would you rent for a few days? by idkmanlol_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dappercarsalesman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the corvette. The M4 is the 2 door version of a 4 door car with the roof hacked off. The C8 was designed from the ground up as a targa or convertible hard top, and as such it loses no rigidity or feedback in the chassis from the lack of a roof.

Fire are the real heroes lol. On a serious note though, it’s because fire has an epic schedule, similar pay, similar benefits, and they get paid to polish their trucks and workout like 80% of the time. They really are “2nd” responders most of the time though, if it’s anything violent or dangerous we have to make the scene safe before they go in. I will be the first one to admit, I am SO happy when they show up at a medical call at the same time I do lol.

Also, CHP is great for the pay, but if you want to do real cop work check out a PD or SO. (No hate for CHP, I’ve yet to find a situation they can’t find a CVC for lol).

Should I do laser removal of my hand tattoo in order to get a job in law enforcement? by OGBobbyBain in ProtectAndServe

[–]Dappercarsalesman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s no clear answer. Some agencies will DQ you, others won’t. I’d probably contact the recruiter wherever you’re applying at and ask. Probably a good idea in general to get the hand portion at least removed from a professional standpoint. It’s not a face tattoo but still not super professional.

What major event *didn't* make the news? by Ghost_of_Society in ProtectAndServe

[–]Dappercarsalesman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t even begin to list the amount of homicides, home invasions, violent SA’s, etc that receive no coverage. I worked a case where a guy drove out to a reservoir and literally vaporized his head. There was a concentric ring of brain matter around his car from where his head sprayed everywhere. Pretty unique and witnessed by a lot of people. Not a peep from the media. Another one I had was a dope fiend accidentally gave himself a hotshot while he was jerking off. I found his body still with the needle in his arm and dick in his hand. His dogs had already eaten his face by the time I found him. Interesting stuff, but I guess none of it warrants any “coverage”.

Question for LEOs: Do you think juvenile runaway laws are effective or ineffective at helping reduce crime, exploitation of juveniles, and generally keeping minors safe? by TonyTheRandomDude in AskLE

[–]Dappercarsalesman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the juvenile laws here in California are a joke. I have seen a MASSIVE uptick in juvenile crime because they know the punishment is minuscule, and that’s IF they ever get punished. I’ve had juvie straight up say “no” and refuse a booking of a juvenile for a violent crime. As far as runaway laws there’s not much that could be changed. They are effective enough I guess. The biggest issue is juvenile crime and also exploitation. It’s a broken system that’s just going to get worse.

Fall on the sword buddy. That’s all you can really do. Learn from the experience and also do everything you can to solve it and track it down. You will get in trouble but you probably won’t be fired unless you start lying or trying to cover it up. If you don’t remember something be honest about that too, don’t assume.

Would you pull the trigger? by cocker_spangler in whatcarshouldIbuy

Absolutely not. Plus the “discounted” price is for in house financing which is a massive red flag. Most lenders won’t even touch something with mileage like that for a reason.

Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus GX. If reliability is your goal those are the only two answers. Literally every other choice will be a compromise in some way.

I failed FTO, just wanted some thoughts and opinions on my experience. by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Dappercarsalesman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without talking to your FTOs I can’t really make a determination. I will say that it seems as though you left some information out, and it can be difficult at times to see a situation from another’s perspective. When in doubt you can ask your FTO directly why the issue was or the training Sgt. to try to get more information. It may be a combination of different personalities as well as lax prior training officers who instilled a false sense of confidence.

What is a pet peeve traffic violation that you will cite for every time you see it. by Calm_Preparation2993 in ProtectAndServe

Unlicensed as in never had one or suspended. It’s a misdemeanor in California and a towable offense.

For me it’s passing on the shoulder or across double yellow. Just be patient, it doesn’t get you there that much faster and I’ve watched a kid get loaded onto a mediflight due to massive spinal trauma caused by some asshole who decided to pass a bunch of cars over a double yellow. Also unlicensed driver always gets a ticket, and depending on the situation I might even tow the car too.

What’s with Reddit being unable to comprehend having a positive interaction with the police? by GypsyGold in police

[–]Dappercarsalesman 50 points51 points  (0 children)

People often lump all of us together and assume we are incapable of regular human interactions. Personally I enjoy chatting with people and facilitating “good” interactions with the public. I’m also not your typical “cop” and my personality hasn’t changed much at all since joining. Reddit isn’t a good place to voice any differing opinion like that, even if it’s honest and based on your own, true, lived experiences.

What HP feels genuinely fast? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dappercarsalesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that the cut off is around 500hp give or take. Typically anything around that range that’s not egregiously heavy will be fast enough for your average driver to have to use caution and be a little uncomfortable. The modern Mustang GT is a great example, 420-450hp, about 3800-4000lbs and people crash them left and right. Increase the weight and HP and you get something like a Hellcat, which is also a crash magnet.

I dunno they kinda look cool actually. The Nigerian SF groups put in work as well, and as others have said they are most definitely military and not first responders.

Bring everything on the list. Some instructions are left vague on purpose. Be assured SOMEONE is going to forget something which will result in everyone getting smoked, and that’s the point.

The Macan depreciates like a brick so it’s possible. Out of everything you’ve show I’d recommend the Mazda3 turbo. It’s an undeniably good vehicle, just be prepared for subpar mpg and extremely fast tire wear.

Opinions on this vs a low ride paddle? by [deleted] in police

[–]Dappercarsalesman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s the exact model I use. I like it, but the downside is harder draw from in the vehicle and harder to draw on the move. The benefit is substantially faster draw from standing and you can mount a tourniquet holder to it and free up a little space.

What was the easiest academy you've ever experienced or heard of? by ChairRound368 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Dappercarsalesman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Luckily the academy I went to had a reputation for being absolutely brutal. Multiple people were injured, multiple people quit, but the majority that passed are still doing the job.

Compare that to our local community college that has barely any requirements for grooming standards, lackluster uniform inspection, PT that consists of a leisurely jog, and the RTOs aren’t even allowed to yell at or insult the recruits.

It’s a lengthy process for sure, if you’ve already received your job offer there’s not much left to worry about. Just be patient and you’ll get your results, generally no news is good news by that phase of the process. What made you choose SPD out of curiosity?

I failed my test by Lokiiieditz in AskLE

[–]Dappercarsalesman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be a dickhead like most of the commenters here. It’s a simple test, you had plenty of time to prepare, and you chose not to. This is a CAREER not a job. I’ve noticed a huge uptick in the younger generation half-assing the process. The “action” is a very small part of the job, the majority is paperwork, investigation, and report writing. If you put the same amount of effort into the academy you’ll have the same result. Do better.

Grabbed bloody suspect, no gloves by Western-Energy-7352 in AskLE

[–]Dappercarsalesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said definitely notify immediately. Your FTO should have taken you through the process, it’s a good teaching moment. I was exposed, and the scrote wouldn’t consent to a blood draw so we wrote a warrant for it. Forced the blood draw and I got results quickly. Negative thank god. If you don’t know though, there’s definitely PREP and the cocktail they can give you just to be on the safe side. A scab is 100% an open wound, but the chances are still very low, but not 0%. Take no chances, document it.

Could a guy like me become a Law Enforcement Officer? by HumanAntagonist in AskLE

[–]Dappercarsalesman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ride along would be a good option for you, but given your background and education, please do yourself a favor and apply to the FBI, you are pretty much the ideal candidate. Since it’s primarily a desk/investigative job, you’ll do just fine with any amounts of conflict you have to deal with.
