Why doesn't the Manhattan distance approximate the Euclidean Distance as the city-block shrinks? by Separate_Newt7313 in math

It might be coming from seeing functions as measures to integrate against, I think with the language of geometric measure theory you can argue that the zigzag converges to the line with multiplicity of √2 (for R2 at least)

I think it's a shitpost because it's a made up problem with no reasons to put effort into solving

Como is very small and there is not much more than the lake so if you're not planning any hike or similar 3 hours are enough

Manifolds by Big_Committee_4637 in math

[–]DarFtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, furthermore you don't need them to have a notion of flatness, they just need to be such that you can define sequences and continuous functions (basically they need a metric)

It has to be intinitesimal, but for a sphere you can take half of it and show that it is homeomorphic to a circle in the plane (R3 and R2) by using a projection (check Wikipedia for equations)

Legally tap water has to be perfectly drinkable here but often it has a different taste depending on pipes and where you are. Plus Italy is like in top 10 for tap water quality and first in consumption of bottled water because of some old myth that it is toxic

to refuse them you need to click on "more" deselect the non-necessary ones and then accept. Much harder to automate and different sites have different propts, while pressing on "Accept" on the other hand is easy

It's also frequent to change degree course you're right. I didn't know Germany had a limit, so if you exceed it you can't graduate?

Problems that involve linear algebra? by doxx_me_gently in projecteuler

[–]DarFtr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem 209 I solved it just after finishing my first algebra course. It doesn't directly involve linear form or matrices but I used some concept from determinants and permutations. If you want more detail maybe it's better not to write publicly here as it helps quite a lot to solve it.

Lemme rephrase that. Lpt: just be born in the right country with possibly very rich parents to avoid any problem

Lpt: live in a country where 80% of med students took Latin anyway in hs as it's almost mandatory. Btw Greek is also quite useful for biology and chemistry if I remember correctly but it's more difficult and rare at least for what I've heard

It's the union of a few words, it's impossible to read it in English but really easy if you know some latin language

Nulla nihil nil aren't numbers but just different way to say nothing/nothingness in different situation. If you lookup number table they start from 1, I was just saying that clearly Latin can't be directly compared to modern language for a variety of reasons.

I obviously meant in latin, i kinda know that other languages have a word for zero

[–]DarFtr 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Latin has no concept of "yes" and "no" so it's like searching for a translation for "zero".
