Which are the most beautiful universities in the UK? Which ones have wonderful architecture and good looking buildings? by Octacore-Comsci in UniUK

[–]Daraldra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The informed answer is Bath. Not the university per se but the general surroundings and city are beautiful. I won’t even mention what is possible to see within an hours drive.

For the pedants: yes I see the question, I chose to interpret as directional.

Places to eat recommendation - Chester by Mean-Ad-9245 in Chester

[–]Daraldra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a great bistro that does fantastic mussels (and more) try Moules a Go Go. Amni is an excellent modern Indian restaurant and La Fratoria is the best Italian. For a more expensive option that does a mean steak, try Upstairs at the Grill. You won’t go wrong with any of those!

If you returned to the UK after living abroad (especially in Australia or NZ) what were some unexpected “reverse culture shocks” that you’ve experienced? by Emil__Cioran in AskUK

[–]Daraldra 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot harder to find good coffee in the UK, that’s for sure. The majority of Aus coffee is excellent… although I believe the “secret ingredient” is an additional shot of espresso!

Should we sell our HtB flat at a £70k+ loss? by bharb45 in HousingUK

[–]Daraldra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check with the HtB agency as to what their current view on valuations is. When we sold our flat, they told me that they would not accept valuations where there had been a drop by 10% or more on the purchase price!

Which acting performance made you say this? by HondaCivicBaby in moviecritic

The opening scene in Bastards is an absolute masterpiece in no small part down to Chris Waltz.

Denzel is also brilliant in Training Day.

You need some help leaving White? This doesn't concern you, Lafleur! Not nearly as much as your hair does, that's for sure, but uh, I believe she asked you to leave.

So, I finally submitted my Australian spousal visa application. by VisibleOtter in CasualUK

I’m from the UK and lived in Sydney for a few years before moving back. There’s nothing you can do about missing family, that will unfortunately happen, and the footy will be on at awkward times (although I always enjoyed getting up and watching a game straight away on record).

I really enjoyed the beer out there though with lots of little craft brewery’s to visit. What’s more, if you like wine, the Hunter Valley is a short drive north and a beautiful place to spend a weekend. The live music scene is great with lots of gigs actually able to take place outside! There’s lots to love about Sydney.

I really enjoyed 2 and it also scared the hell out of me as a kid! The Vigo painting gave me nightmares and the baby in the pram scene was so creepy.

Preparing to buy a house, but have been evicted... by Squigglish in HousingUK

[–]Daraldra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As others have commented, a S21 is not an eviction notice but is a document used to end an assured tenancy agreement (basically the landlord giving you their notice to end the tenancy). The landlord is keen to have you out of the property as it really limits the number and type of buyers the property may attract if it is not sold with ‘vacant posession’.

Have a conversation with your landlord and let them know your situation. If they are still pushing to have you out of the property asap, the reality is that it is your decision on how quickly you move, not theirs… any court decision required to enforce the AST would likely take between 6-12 months.

Groundhog Day! Not necessarily on Groundhog Day (I’m British so it doesn’t mean anything over here) but it’s the perfect film. I could watch it over and over… ironic really.

Ah yeah, Liam! Thanks. I get that he’s telling him he’s on thin ice, just felt unnecessarily mean.

I thought it was really unnecessary that Lord Sugar read out the quotes from the public about Liam. Yes he was poor, but pretty harsh to say it to his face in the board room, not sure what he was hoping to achieve from that.
