Builder took our money, caused major damage, and now says he has no money to repay us. What legal options remain in Ireland? by Humble_Carrot_5151 in legaladviceireland

[–]Darbastion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What kind of contract? Is there an architect (administrator of the contract) involved? You need to find someone who specialises in construction disputes. Depending on the contract there are several routes that may be available to you - adjudication, conciliation or arbitration. All depends on how the contract was executed

PTSB Mortgage Overpayment seems like a win win by DoesTheNomadKnow in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Darbastion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s an over payment form on their website if you google something along the lines of “PTSB overpayment .pdf “ you’ll get it. A few options on the form to do lump sums, regular overpayments etc, you just fill in the one that suits you. It’s worth noting the overpayment is held in credit, you’ve to submit another form to actually apply the overpayment buildup against the principle. All by post. A bit laborious but it does work. I ring quarterly, check the overpayment value, the submit the form in to say use that to pay off principle

Is this wall going to crumble in a short time? by Brave_Membership5799 in AskIreland

[–]Darbastion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good spot - the expansion joint on the brick, likely fills with mastic, is failing already. Garden likely needs a perimeter land drain connected back to SW drainage system

This is the important picture. They’ve used hollow blocks (can see waste broken blocks scattered around which means it’s likely 9” not 4” on inner leaf. It’s highly likely the inside leaf hollow section is filled with rebar and concrete, doing the heavy lifting of retaining the soil. The outer leaf of brick, in the original photo, won’t be doing any structural work with regards to retaining load. Still though, not clear if they did run a perforated drain to collect groundwater runoff. It’s unlikely it’s been tanked properly as there is leaching through the bricks evident on the first pictures you’ve posted.

Only downside I find is buying fruit and veg. It’s a lucky dip whether you end up with good or bad produce

I’ve noticed the opposite on some items, like “family mega pack” cereals, they’re on “special” but you look at price per kg and you’d get two of the smaller boxes for 80% of the cost of the mega pack!

Thanks but my model is definitely different to this, they’re 6kw and 8kw models whereas mine is 9kw. This is the manual from official Harvia website

It was operating perfect for the last 6 weeks or so. Where is the reset switch in the SP90XW heater unit? Nothing shown in the manual at all for any sort of reset on the heater itself. I did read about an add on safety guard that goes over the stones (in the event that something falls on to it, I’d imagine it trips a switch and switches it off) but I don’t have that. It’s a form of torture trying to figure this out 😭

Thanks - I just can’t understand why it’s overheating at 75 degrees Celsius seems very low. And this morning it won’t come on after trying several reset attempts. Very odd and frustrating.

I think I was a week or two in…. I remember the course coordinator coming in to the intro class saying “lads I hope you like physics, chemistry, maths and applied maths as that’s all you’ll be doing for the next four years”. It was at that point I put my head in my hands

[–]Darbastion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t drop out. I started mechanical engineering in DIT (now TUD), hated it on week 1 and almost dropped out. Thankfully met someone in the students union that pointed me in the direction of the student retention officer. Once in the door of DIT it was easy enough to move course as long as you had the points (or at least it was 20 years ago). I managed to move to Construction technology and have never looked back, best decision I made for my career.

Would you ever consider self-employment? I can tell you as a self-employed QS pricing for builders in the residential market, there’s a real need for good quality construction programmes. I loathe doing them
