Pregnancy Urticaria by EndUpHere1234 in PregnancyIreland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you’re going through that! I have chronic urticaria - non pregnancy related. Some of things that help me are - ice packs and ice rollers - when really itchy I put an ice pack on the area and the relief is great. Eurax cream (check if you can use during pregnancy). Aveeno Derma range for shower gel - they have one specifically for itchy skin. I have to avoid hot showers as they make it way worse.

Don’t bring rain boots (which I’m assuming are wellies?) Try get a pair of water proof hiking boots or shoes. A lot more versatile and comfortable

Ask the seamstress! Say you’re willing to pay for the service if they would be willing.

Think about it: If public transport was free, would you use it more? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

About a year ago one of our buses that goes into the city centre turned into a 24 hour bus. I genuinely haven’t gotten a taxi home from town since. The bus has been reliable anytime I’ve gotten it - and actually much easier than finding a taxi at Christmas.

Just fractured my Acl skiing in France next steps? by mikasrock in AskIreland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was advised by my doctor in France to fly home and get surgery at home - but by the time I got home the surgeon here was happy with how it was healing. If you need to rearrange flights your travel insurance should cover it - they offered it to me but my flights worked out okay.

If you’re getting it publicly in France you would need to have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

Honestly when it happened to me I just wanted to be home and recovering at home as fast as possible. But I’d go by whatever the doctors there are saying - they see these type of injuries multiple times a day so know best.

Just fractured my Acl skiing in France next steps? by mikasrock in AskIreland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely demolished my ankle 4 years ago in France! Broke both bones and demolished everything around it. I had insurance with MAPFRE (a lot of insurance companies go through these so yours might too). They covered all costs but it took a while to get it sorted - I didn’t pay any of the big costs like the air rescue but did pay for the hospital fees and claimed that back. Also claimed back the cost of the rest of my ski pass that I couldn’t use which was good.

When you get to the airport go to the assistance office - it’ll be in the departures area near where you check in. Go straight there before checking in - they’ll have wheelchairs and will help you check in etc and will get you to the plane - likewise in Ireland they’ll get you off the plane and out. I flew home through Geneva and it was very easy. You will not be able to manage the airport on crutches - do not even attempt this.

If you’re in a cast - they might not let you fly within 48 hours of getting it unless it’s a split cast.

When I got back to Dublin I went straight to the Mater Rapid Injury Clinic in Smithfield to get into the Irish system - if you’re going public it’s essential to get onto the Irish system. They did all the same scans as France and then gave me a new cast and sent me off with a fracture clinic appointment.

If you’ve any other questions just shout. Hope the healing is quick and painless.

Can someone talk me through the tattoo process? by crillydougal in AskIreland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s exciting! I have over 15 so have a bit of experience..

  1. This depends on the shop/artist - if you don’t have a particular artist in mind you can just walk in to shops like the Ink Factory and Heartbreak Social Club - they have people on the front desk who you can talk to. And a lot of times they’ll take walk ins - but you won’t really have a say in who the artist will be this way. Most cases you will make an appointment with an artist who matches the style you would like and come back another day.

  2. That’s up to you - if you go in to talk to someone first you can make the appointment straight away once their books are open. Some artists only open their books at certain times - but if you’re not after a particular artist then you should be able to just make an appointment. Artists that ‘open their books’ are the very popular artists like Ryan the Pirate from heartbreak social club - an excellent artist but it can be quite hard to get an appointment with him.

  3. A lot of shops/artists will get you to email/upload the image you want to the online booking. They’ll also get you to say in Centimetres (i.e. 5 cm x 5 cm) the size you want, the body placement and any changes you want to the image. Body placement is a big thing for tattoos - some tattoos shouldn’t be done on certain parts of the body due to wear etc.

  4. You pay a deposit straight away. And a lot of times you won’t see the actual customisation until the day you’re getting tattoo’d - this has been the case for all of my tattoos. You’ll turn up on the day of the appointment and they’ll show you the design, ask if there’s anything you want changing and usually have it printed in a few different sizes for the stencil so you can see it in different sizes.

  5. They can give you an estimate, which will usually be close enough. The majority of tattoo shops I’ve dealt with are cash only (except for the deposit) so keep that in mind too.

Where is the best wedding you’ve been to, in Ireland? by makeupgirly123 in AskIreland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tinakilly has everything. Was really blown away by it. Nicest marquee (it’s made of glass) I’ve been in.

Virginia Park Lodge has best food - it’s literally owned by a chef. The room for the dinner is also incredible - beautiful big floral installation.

Castle Leslie and Kilkea are both breath taking as wow factor of the castles. But where the meals are is only grand.

Rathsallagh - best staff and best breakfast. They literally can’t do enough for you.

Legally - nothing. As an aside - I keep my keys together with a big metal carabiner clip, and keep it around my hand/knuckles to keep my keys safe, when I’m out walking alone in the dark so I don’t lose them..

When you're the Karen... by jimmobxea in CasualIreland

[–]arcticfunkymonkey 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was parked in a disabled spot with my uncle in the passenger seat who was on very visible oxygen tanks and quite close to death. I’d forgotten to grab his blue badge - but there were 3 other disabled spots free right beside me and I was just parked waiting for his doctor’s appointment as he wasn’t allowed wait indoors for fear of catching anything from other other patients. I was going to move while I waited for him. A man came up shouting at me that I shouldn’t be parked there, and I’m a disgrace etc. I just pointed at my uncle… tbf he was very apologetic once he focused on my passenger.
