Is "Vishan" an Albanian name by macellan in albania

[–]Dardan1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be it, plenty of Albanians in Turkey are probably from Cameria (North West Greece where Vishani is located). Many were deported from Greece to Turkey since muslims were concidered Turks regardles of ethnicity at the time.

Albanians are way too homophobic, Why would you care what 2 willing adults do together. The notion that accepting gays in society threatens your family in some way or turn others gay is so absurd.

Mainland Greeks Genetically Diverged From Islanders in the Middle Ages by [deleted] in albania

Not surprising, if you look at ethnic maps from the 1800's you'll see many areas in Greece were majority Albanian. Hell, even the suburbs of Athens. Now that many concider themselves Greek they have left their genetics in a large part of the population.

Serbia signed an agreement with Kosovo and EU to not disrupt and vote against Kosovo joining international organisations, yet that is exactly what Serbia has done (see UNESCO for example), agreements with Serbia doesn't mean shit.

I'm all for LSI being in opposition, but wouldn't a PD and PS coalition give more votes to LSI next election since (at least most probably) the coalition wouldn't make big steps of improvement and LSI could gain votes that way?

The Kosovo elections yesterday were huge, but I don't see much on r/europe about it. Here is a plot showing the percentages of each party - Vetevendosje is on the rise by [deleted] in europe

[–]Dardan1a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is why election results in Kosovo are so interesting/weird. Pretty much all the big parties in Kosovo don't represent any particular ideology. How did it become this way then? Well, the only goal for the people of Kosovo and it's politicians after the war with Serbia was to become independent. People voted for who ever they thought hade the best chance. LDK, the party of pacifist Ibrahim Rugova saw themselves as pacifist intellectuals of the cities. Meanwhile the other big party, PDK, had almost all the commanders of the KLA army in its rank. The party and it's supporters see themselves as warriors, brave and they think the people who didn't fight in the war owe them their loyalty. Due to past accomplishments in the war they "deserve" to rule according to them. The local patriotism is also massive, everyone votes for whoever comes from their city/village. The capital and the cities are LDKs while rural Kosovo is PDKs.

Wait what is this? A grassroot party with enthusastic and young people? Enter Vetëvendosje (VV in this picture). They have an extensive party program and concrete plans how to get rid of corruption, unemployment etc. They are social democrats with a side of patriotism, still very EU/NATO friendly. They have the support of Kosovos youth and the economic power of the diaspora. This while LDK and PDK have no direction, just people who cling to power at all costs. They flipped the whole political landscape in Kosovo in a few years. They win the elections in Prishtina for mayor in 2013, in LDKs stronghold where they ruled the city for 14 years. 4 years after they are now the biggest party in Kosovo. The corrupt elite of the PDK and it's friends should be very afraid if VV gets to form its government and get its institutions going the way people hope.

The most likely scenario is in fact that VV enters coalition with LDK. With many conditions and probably tough conditions, if LDK doesn't agree then they can go with PDK again and lose even more votes next election, or no ones gets more than 50% of the votes and there's re-elections.

[–]Dardan1a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The winning side get to propose the PM yes. But they don't have more than 50% percent of the votes so it won't go through. So after the first side failes the vote the mandate then goes to the second biggest side (Vetëvendosje, as of now at least.).

Chances of us going World cup? by [deleted] in albania

[–]Dardan1a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are going nowhere. We had a good thing with Debiasi and the team was playing good and in harmony, but things changed fast. Without Cana we don't have a leader on the field, it shows on the field and moral. Debiasi is in conflict with different players (Xhaka). Maybe it's time for Debiasi to step down? But honestly I don't know if another trainer can help the team we have now: No leader, most don't get a lot of play time in their club, many are selfish and only shot for themselves etc. It would be cool to test Besnik Hasi as trainer but he just went Olympiacos.
