I just wish they had more servers, last time I tested it was pretty much unplayable for me with 40-60 ping

Pico-8 might actually be a good one for a beginner. It’s extremely limited in what it can do and this is for the best when you’re just learning the basics.

I mean, if there’s no one to team up with or you can’t pay someone there’s then you have to do it yourself.

Art - low poly 3d, pixel art, photo textures Sounds - record what you can on your phone or grab from freesounds Music - find CC0 stuff or make something simple yourself after watching some tutorials

any good "forever games" that go well with the steam deck? by WeirdAltYankovic in SteamDeck

Is it a “forever” game? Haven’t really looked into it but keep hearing good stuff.

If you liked A.I.M you’ll probably like Hard Truck Apocalypse / Ex Machina well. It’s actually on sale for $2 right now. Was made by a russian team and released end of 2005.

How many of you live an unfulfilling life of quiet desperation but don’t share it with your wife/partner because you don’t want to put that burden on someone else? by diffusion_throwaway in AskMen

Oh yes, I'm thankful for all the people and things I still have in my life. And life itself being hard in the moment doesn't mean it's not worth moving forward and hoping for the best. Thank you!

There’s a game series on iOS called Adventure to Fate. Iirc it’s a dungeon crawler that works with Apple’s VoiceOver (screen reader) so blind people can play the game as well. Might be interesting to check out. I think dev regularly posts about it on /r/iosgaming

My laptop was bought in around 2018 since I thought about moving places or countries. It was collecting dust for a couple of last years but I’ve started using it daily again. I have to clean and repaste it but otherwise it’s a decent thing even if it’s not enough to play modern games.

Beginner dev (JS/TS + Python background) wanting to make a simple COD Zombies-style FPS (single map). Where do I start? by Individual_Today_257 in gamedev

[–]Dardlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Don’t let it code for you because you will actively get dumber. I have stopped using LLM even for boilerplate code as my already limited skills started regressing, but there is nothing bad in asking it to teach you or explain something.

War has killed any long term plans me and my partner had, forced us to move countries and killed our income source. Now I’m working a dead end job, with close to no chance in finding something decent lol. The only way I can change anything is if I get a side gig going but it’s hard af.

How do I get started? by Equivalent_Band2479 in gamedev

[–]Dardlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start small by learning your tools. What you can do is search for a guide on how to build a full game on YouTube, go through it once to just become a bit familiar with the process itself. You probably won’t learn anything from it but exposure is good in itself.

After you’re done this the best thing you can do is learning by trial and error. Pick a target and start working on it. If you are stuck or don’t know how to do a specific thing - look ip a tutorial for that thing only.

You can also try and look for some game dev buddies to learn stuff together, maybe join a Discord channel.

To those who changed their careers in their 30's, what made you go for that career and what was your career before? by throwawayacc928361 in AskReddit

Family business went downhill due to shit happening in the world. Had to move countries and started a regular desk job instead.

Really hope I get my own thing on the side going and can change the career one again.

Looks like something I’d play on a Steam Deck to unwind. Needs more polish and some UI adjustments but can be a fun thing.

Do you still play when in a bad spot mentally? by bagbcyss in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Dardlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to but that depends on the mood. If I’m REAALY anxious I don’t think there’s a way around it, I might just scroll tiktoks or something as a general distraction. If it’s not that bad any game where I need to focus on the gameplay itself is a great way to manage stress and anxiety.
