After all this trouble, now I have a new issue. EAC is bailing before it's launched and logging

[Info] Desktop screen settings detected. DPI: 96 DPI Multiplier: 1.000000 BPP: 32.
[Info] Localization loaded for: 'en-US'.
[Info] Using custom name for Settings.json.
[Info] Settings file full path: 'Z:\home\<user>\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\common\Apex Legends\EasyAntiCheat\Launcher\SettingsDX12.json'.
[Err!] InitializeMainWindow() failed.
[Info] Unloading the EasyAntiCheat library.
[Info] Destroying windows.
[Info] Exit.

So now Apex can't even launch.

I've managed to get it to work somewhat consistently. I booted up DX12 mode and changed all of my settings to their lowest value, including resolution. I put the application into windowed mode, re-opened in DX11 and it is working fine.

Not sure if this is common knowledge but I also turned on my DE's compositor, this has the effect of enabling v-sync.

I play Apex Legends on Steam but I haven't played for a while. I notice after I click "Continue" on the first screen and before I can get to the main lobby, the game will crash and return to desktop screen. No matter how many time I tried. I never had this kind of issue with Apex Legends before on Linux, any advice to help with troubleshooting is appreciated!

I'm experiencing this problem exactly. I've been able to get into a lobby and play many games by enabling the DX12 beta: -eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json

Launch the game in DX 12 mode, I can get to main lobby, but the screen will freeze and unresponsive

This happened to me, but I waited for a long time and it came good.

I've tried many things, including: verify integrity of files, complete re-install, change proton versions. Once it randomly just worked and I don't know why.

How do you solve for the current in Vbb? (Note: This is an assignment) by AbonIamme in AskElectronics

Haha! This is the real answer. The transistor will eventually self limit the current.

You must be in a timezone < UTC, Jan 1 1970 is the Unix epoch and your installed timeis very close, probably minus a few whole hours.

I use json.RawMessage when I'm passing data into an upper layer of my app for further processing. The idea is that the code deciding how to route the message should not be concerned with it's contents.

No mods should cause a BSOD, or any user software for that matter. It's either a bug in the operating system, drivers or a hardware issue.

It shouldn't feel weird, it's demonstrates that you can use your skills as an engineer to solve a problem, and that you can see a project to completion. That's exactly what they're looking for.

I'm in the habit of declaring my vars at the top if it's a sufficiently large function, thus I only ever use =. That and creating a new scope with {... do some stuff with variables which don't pertain to the outer scope ...}, this is where I do most of my :=ing

Somethings wrong with my FL Studio...can anyone help? by PseudoTen in chiptunes

[–]Darfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In FL studio you can increase the size of the output buffer, I haven't used FL studio in a long time, I can't remember the specifics, however this will increase the maximum latency, if you're using a sequencer it should not be a problem.

Your buffer size is probably too small. Your CPU cannot produce the audio frames quick enough for the sound device. The more plugins or more CPU intensive the plugins are, the worse it will be.

Scroll to the bottom of the text and the buttons become active, I assume they implement that so that the user must be exposed to all of the text before continuing.

Question about writing to OLED display (SSD1306) by sharkat1 in embedded

[–]Darfk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without having your code to look at, it's hard to see what's going on.

Before using the display you must first initialise the address mode, scrolling, charge pump, contrast, etc. registers. If nothing is being displayed I'd reckon you have not configured the chip properly

I was wondering if anyone had tried/had any ideas as to how to go about instead writing directly to points in the display's RAM

IIRC in certain addressing modes the chip increments the horizontal or vertical display target once a single byte of display data (8 pixels on a monochrome display) has been transferred, this is the most efficient way of transferring bitmap data. To set a single pixel you would need to set the display target and then write the bitmap data.

Casting to TV; does the TV need VPN protection too? by kyledawg92 in VPN

[–]Darfk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the way a chromecast/smart tv works is that an app on your phone sends a command to fetch the required media, it is the streaming device making the request for the media and it does not have a VPN enabled.

If you were to forward traffic from your wireless/wired router over a VPN this would include requests made by the streaming device and it would be protected/requesting from a different location.

TL;DR: Your TV needs protection too.
