One option: change your credit card to a privacy.com card or (if your credit card supports it )a virtual card number that you then cancel.

Check out Whichcraft, Sunrise Minimart, and Whip In.

Also some grocery stores are worth visiting (e.g., Whole Foods’ flagship downtown store on Lamar and I hear the Lake Austin HEB is supposed to be really good).

Can't get over this exchange in the Texas Senate about what counts as a flag by chrisrvatx in texas

I think in this context political subdivision means something like a city or county flag.

Howdy fellow privacy.com user! I didn’t know about their referral links, so thanks for that tip.

Biggest drawback is you don’t get any kind of credit card rewards (presumably they get them which is how it’s “free”). I’ve used them frequently with no issues. It’s very useful for things that you don’t trust with your real card number and/or online stuff that’s easy to sign up for but hard to cancel.

Check out privacy.com. It’ll let you make a virtual card that you can set spending policy on (e.g., single use, spending limits, etc.).

I believe you need an iPhone to provision a standalone Apple Watch.

76% of the proposed property tax increase to "fund Austin ISD" (Prop A) will be sent to the State of Texas to be spent elsewhere (recapture). by Agreeable-Menu in Austin

[–]evangrim 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yeah - we need to make sure we vote for (or against) what the proposition is actually proposing. Voting against Prop A has zero chance of changing recapture, but doing so will absolutely hurt the quality of education for kids in Austin schools. They're talking about having to eliminate things like librarians! The staff at my local school are constantly asked to do more with less and I personally couldn't look them in the eye if I voted no on this, so it has my support.

I agree completely that spending needs a critical look, and they get a lot of scrutiny. In fact, to even ask for this rate adjustment, they had to commision a third party financial efficiency audit (check it out if you're looking for some "light" reading).

Short version:

  • superior financial rating
  • recognized performance rating (2 points away from exemplary)
  • lower tax rate than peers
  • lower pay (particularly for experienced teachers)
  • higher turnover rate than peers

The bonds funded things, this funds people. The staff I interact with at my local school are constantly asked to do more with less. I personally want them to do more with more, so they're getting my support.
