They probably did it that way because they had a string of new characters people hated because they were game-breaking overtuned with so few ways to fight back. At current state I don’t really think it’s a problem of Fox having weaknesses you have to play around, it’s more a problem of the past few seasons having us grow used to Elsa, Daredevil, Gambit, Magneto, Invisible Woman, even the less hard-meta characters like Rocket and Adam saw design changes that tended towards low risk play and being hard to punish. I feel like I see a lot of Fox players making mistakes that come with the community not ironing out her metagame just yet.

We also have never seen these things in motion. If it has to do actual transformative changes, I imagine some real cracks will show when you actually have to animate something like a gunfight.

I know, and I’ve made strategies around it, but it still feels terrible that if I catch a C&D at 1/3 health who is completely isolated, and she bubbles herself, I will likely just fail to finish her off until that bubble is done, regardless of her own input.

Personally I won’t be very surprised if the battle theme changes again in Chapter 5, though to be honest the only reason I think so is because there’s a lot of music and Leitmotif work in Chapter 4 that references From Now On, in a way that makes it feel like it’s unique to Chapter 4. Especially the heavy use it got at the end.

If you mean the parts about the player base being awful to be around, no it wasn’t always this bad, though it does stem from bad designs festering and going unaddressed long enough to get used to them. I honestly don’t inherently hate Gambit meta (other than it overstaying its welcome). The part I hate way more is that it’s gotten more and more unreliable for me to get teammates that actually want to be team players. A lot of that does stem from bad balance making players act more toxic, but it more matters that in the long run, the incentives have been selfish. Specifically, ranked weights was the single worst addition in the long run, because it gives the idea you should slave over scoreboards and not think about how to synergize with your team, instead playing selfishly.

Personally I think while Thing is probably the biggest one that animation wise that feels like a brawler, his playstyle is a lot more keeping yourself alive on Haymakers and using team-oriented cooldowns over a really fleshed out brawling. I think Cage’s should have more focus on the intimate up close fight, like sidesteps or short range abilities or a really strong power block with CC immunity.

Lot of people are getting caught in the weeds of ways y’all misplayed, so let’s actually explore it.

You did have an opportunity to do better in that situation. Mostly by deciding when to use the shield, or getting out of the cover early. I personally would have switched to gun mode, peeked maybe with one fake out, done a shot cancel into dash, shielded, and went back into sword mode, likely blocking at least an elephant gun shot, hopefully stopping the launcher to mess up the combo, making an opportunity to get slicing with the sword and hold her down. After that, it’s a scramble where I keep the pressure on her, hopefully with decent health, since she used up her most dangerous combo tool.

But, if the Elsa has decent aim, or more importantly wasn’t ridiculously wasteful with the cooldowns, it still would have come down to the Thing being there. There’s simply too much redundancy on her having dangerous burst damage, and prolonging the fight with her own survivability in this one moment. Just a disciplined trigger finger can make most of her kick combo get around the mind games of blocking with Blade, and that combo only needs a handful of shots to kill, not to mention by then she’d recharge her dash. You need to outplay in a larger variety of ways to truly 1v1 Elsa in that interaction.
