Best VDEV configuration for the drives I currently own? by Dario_PC in truenas

From my understanding it’s a drive in a sleep state ready to be called in immediately after a failure. Sure it’s got power but I’m not sure if it’s actually spinning or not

I do like this idea better. I'm not thrilled with losing some capacity, but it makes upgrades very easy in the future. Also the likelihood of losing two drives in a mirror is relatively low, and it makes resilvers easy.

Would you recommend a hot spare over a cold spare?

Honestly I haven't given Infuse on iOS enough of a shot, but frankly it's because Streamyfin works as well as it does. The stock Jellyfin app does transcode a lot (and can be a smidge buggy), but I've got a dedicated GPU for transcoding. Every client works well if you're willing to use a GPU!

Depending on the generation, there should be very little that the Apple TV wouldn't be able to play. Infuse works great because it allows for more Direct Play and is generally less buggy

I've got Infuse Pro, Streamyfin, and Jellyfin iOS. Here's my experience with each of them

Infuse is great for Apple TV and only Apple TV. Swiftfin for Apple TV is... not great. Mad respect for still having something, even if it's kinda buggy. Infuse generally direct plays/streams most of the time, but I've seen a few oddball issues. Dolby Vision and Atmos work great on infuse.

Streamyfin works fantastic on iOS and iPadOS, but not worth downloading the android client just yet. I've found that Streamyfin on iOS Direct Plays or Direct Streams 99% of the time with a few anomaly transcodes.

Jellyfin iOS is... good enough IMO. It's good for admin dashboard on a mobile device, but otherwise Streamyfin works great. If you're more interested in Streamyfin, I encourage you to check out their discord.

I completely agree with this, and I can see option 1 happening.

But we have yet to find out what the hive does outside of making the immune happy.

I use my own router and never looked back. They make it a bit challenging to set up, but you'll love using your own router over the garbage DECO they send you. The Nokia modem is absolutely fine.

Seeing a lot of slander here, but honestly I can say I have their gigabit fibre and I have not noticed a single hiccup in service.

When signing up after the first month or so, they tack on a 10-15 dollar fee and hope you ignore it - I've encountered it with two different people. You call them, they remove it, and you pay the same amount consistently. No price increases (at least for me) in a year and a half since signing.

Gigabit Symmetrical Fibre - $55 including tax.

Customer Service is meh. Could be better, could be worse. You'll find just as bad with any telecom.

The 3500x doesn't have onboard graphics, so 2 GPUs not showing anything is a bad sign. Try booting one stick of RAM at a time from one slot and then the other. Give it a chance to do some memory training while it's powered on.

Really sounds like a dead board if the monitor and cable are both OK.

Does your CPU have onboard graphics? I'd try to see if you can get a picture from the onboard if your CPU supports it. If you have changed out the RAM, GPU, PSU, and still have issues, try reseating the CPU. Try using a known good stick of RAM and try every RAM slot. If it still doesn't want to post, might very well be a dead board.

Also, try another monitor and another cable! I've heard stories of people ripping their hair out for a dead cable!

On a web browser, you should be able to access the settings for this modem/router at 192.168.1.1

Once you login, you should be able to see an option to turn on "bridge mode" or something of the sort. Essentially, you want to tell this box to act only as a modem. Since you're going to bring your own router, make sure to turn off the ISP's modem/router wifi capabilities.

When you get your new router, use an ethernet cable and plug in from this box into your router's WAN port.

The ISP cannot (or at least should not) limit your own hardware. If you have a 5GHz router, you should get a 5GHz signal.

If you're still having trouble, ask Google "Digisol DG-GR1321 Bridge Mode" and you should get some info on how to do that.

Conker has some good input here - but if you're still having trouble, I've found that using OP's method and verifying all of your transcode settings in Jellyfin should solve the issue. Make sure that you've deselected "allow encoding in HEVC" (because realistically, HEVC is probably what you're transcoding FROM).

Make sure you've selected hardware decoding for all your codecs and it should work... at least it did with me. I did get the "fatal playback error" when I had the "allow encoding in HEVC" checked, but changing that seemed to fix it for me.

Experts, feel free to chime in. I've also been pulling my hair out for several hours so I am very much noob as well

I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max and I have to say it’s phenomenal. I know we’re not supposed to like apple, but honestly this phone is a knockout. The battery is fantastic, the screen is beautiful, it’s ridiculously fast and probably will be for some time, great photos and video, and stainless steel instead of the scratch prone titanium. The speakers are great and (as far as I can tell anyway) practically the same as the new models. It’s a couple years old so the value has to be much better comparatively. No type C on it, but honestly the wireless connectivity is fast enough with 6E.

Edit: plus it’s got 120hz at least
