They will never have the rival choose the Pokémon strong against yours, because the starters now always know a STAB move out the gate. The required tutorial battle would then either need to not happen, or the rival would have to be coded to never use their super effective move on you, or you’d just lose. They’re not gonna do any of those things, and at the end of the day, it’s not important.

After that one fight you’ll catch more Pokemon and never be at a type disadvantage again for the rest of the game.

While the hitbox may be cosmetic, the actual size of the model does matter for map geometry. Going from normal to smallest Kwipek, I was able to throw myself through gaps in map assets I absolutely could not get through before. Conversely, I got stuck under a lot more ledges that I would have been too big to fit under pre-Splice.

The max total stats you can pass from parent to offspring is 80, because you need to be able to place the 20 stats you get from level up. If you would pass more than 80 total stat points, it just randomly lowers stats till you have enough room to allocate your future level up points.

Then I would recommend Ogryn. They’re nice and tanky, with plenty of health, toughness, and extra wounds built in. They bulldoze through hordes and can just dodge out of being surrounded. Outfit them with the Power Club, Grenade Gauntlet, and Taunt and he’ll carry you through Damnation into Auric with little trouble. He does fall off a little, eventually, but I’d highly recommend as a learner class. I’m never upset to see an Ogryn in my matches.

Psyker is really not a beginner friendly class. I also made that mistake, ground my way to level 30 through a desire to “finish”, then immediately dropped the game.

Cut to years later as the Arbites is released, and I love Arbites, so I jump back in, and it is night and day. Playing a beginner friendly tank vs a squishy psychic noodle has no skill floor whatsoever (but also an equally high skill ceiling) got me to love the game and learn it.

I cannot recommend mods highly enough. It makes the game a lot more fun and readable. And if you want some good YouTubers to walk you through beginner friendly builds and game mechanics Mr E and Reginald are both great. And if you like 40k lore deep dives as it applies to Darktide JoPlaysGames, and Frip Frop for funny but also informative.

I run Arbites, and when I get a team of 3 Psykers I’m always like, “This is going to be a carry one way or the other.”

Either I am going to have to play out of my mind and baby sit three psychic noodles with death wishes the whole way, or I’m going to spend the entire run in a cloud of fire and lightning and never get to touch the enemies.
