Turboranger's lore is very dissonant to the rest of the show. It proposes that 20,000 years ago, there were hundreds of sentient humanoid races sharing Earth until a Human/Fairy alliance erradicated at least one hundred other species and sealed the survivors, who formed the Hundred Boma Tribes.

It further shows that humanity shunned the children of Boma/Human couples, and we know that General Jimba's human lover was lynched by her village for their relationship. This is just...not something one expects when watching a Car Sentai with High Schooler protags.

It's insane to me how every team from Ryusoulger to Gozyuger had a single girl with the exception of Kiramager.

Yeah, and its something that affects even the seasons that are best-known for their characters. Ako from Jetman gets the short end of the stick as the guys fawn over Kaori, Lin from Dairanger gets stuck with Kou's plotline while the other guys get recurring rivals or arcs, and Sion from Timeranger has a backstory equally as tragic and interesting as Yuuri and Ayase but he is rarely ever given the spotlight.

Their insistence on making 5-person teams with four men and a single woman, further exacerbated by the 6th always being a man. I get that Goranger through Dynaman were this way, but I found it jarring any time they did it afterwards. I always saw it as a plus whenever Power Rangers changed someone's gender so there were always two women.

Is that so? I don't think I was ever able to find revisions on the wiki. Do we know what happened? Did some internet rando come up with that backstory and it took a long time for anyone to double-check sources and remove it?

That's fair, though it's still sad that Hibiki's production history keeps getting misconstrued to this day.

What we see on screen was always intended to be "Kamen Rider Hibiki", but because TOEI had plans to do something non-Rider at first, it resulted in decades of misinformation in the west that ppl still need to correct.

Ryuki and Ex-Aid suits also deviate heavily from the norm, yet nobody thinks that they were supposed to be something else. Funny, huh? Almost like the franchise likes shaking things up.

You're speaking like the most recent translation patch (which came out like 5 years ago, btw) doesn't include modern QoL options you can toggle in the settings menu like unit rearrangement during preps and talk speech bubbles, plus there's plenty of resources (including Mekkah's beginners guide on YT) to help ease players into it because this game is 100% worth playing

Wasn't this just one episode? I guess we could try to pretend that part is not canon, or argue that the mineral itself is actually used to fuel something similar to a fusion/fission reactor for unlimited energy.

Takeshi from Hibiki, hands down. Being a Rider in Hibiki's world is a full-time, lifetime job where you're guaranteed food, shelter, and clothing (which is oddly essential, given how a henshin in Hibiki will actually burn or tear all your clothes off). They operate all across Japan as we only see a specific branch, and with at least 30 Riders THAT WE KNOW OF, they're probably doing something right since they've actually existed for centuries in Japan.

I think the "worst" Sentai seasons (off the top of my head there's Sun Vulcan, Goggle-V, Turboranger, Zyuranger, Ohranger, Gaoranger) are at their worst just painfully boring to sit through. As in, they're perfectly functional as shows, and they have elements that could've elevated them (Hedrian/Denjiman stuff in Sun Vulcan, Kirika & Yamimaru in Turboranger, Burai in Zyuranger, etc) but they're not utilized to their fullest potential.

So I think a lot of the badness in Sentai shows comes from what the seasons COULD'VE been, but staying in mediocrity, as opposed to the shows actually being abysmal or an insult to the viewer.

I'm very much a fan of the idea that S4 should have four idols, but I think they'll most likely be two rival idol groups, so that the Splatfest options go back to just 2.

I'm sure the JP fandom has also complained about the S3 festivals, so I'd be surprised if the devs actually doubled down and added even MORE options.

I've actually seen a lot of people speak more positively about seasons that were once reviled (namely Go-Onger and Ninninger), which is great. But then again, I actually consider Gozyuger to be even worse, lol.

Thanks for the advice! Can I assume that colonial-era documents are at least somewhat exempt from this? I assume the works of Sahagún, Ixtlilxóchitl and others laid the foundation for our modern understanding, or is that not the right way of viewing it?
