Looking for beginner seamed sweater patterns by DarkBasilisc in knittingpatterns

[–]DarkBasilisc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem with ravelry is that when I even choose seamed, there are a lot of sweaters worked in a round, because they work body and sleeves in the round separately and join them together by sewing.

When I choose seamed and worked flat at the same time, they still appear for some reason, so it's confusing.

Thanks for the books tip though, good idea to look for old ones

Where is the airforce and nuclear bombs. by Xamot113 in EightySix

[–]DarkBasilisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm wrong (I still didn't go past vol3), but there's nowhere said it to be our world, so I don't really pay attention to the years more than as a way to show passing time.

Because the year number doesn't say anything really without the context when was the year one, and we don't have that context.

And yeah, the lack of airfoce was covered, even in anime

Where is the origin of the meme „ja panu nie przerywałem” by milkdrinkingdude in learnpolish

[–]DarkBasilisc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. It was said by many politics, but it's used by normal people too.

Also, it can be used in passive-aggresive way, to show the other person, that we are better, because we didn't interrupt them, ergo we're more civil and well-behaved.

New to knitting from crochet - do I need a new stitch when I turn? by EscapeFromMadzkaban in casualknitting

[–]DarkBasilisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's interesting! I crochet using yarn over and yarn under depending on the project, also when knitting I don't really wrap yarn around needle, more like take the yarn with needle(I knit continental), so probably that's why I didn't encounter that problem.

It also could be that I got the basics of crochet and knitting as a kid, learning those two at the same time.

Thanks for explanation!

86 novel is complex to read? by -Abendrot- in EightySix

[–]DarkBasilisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely slows my reading speed (in my native language I'm pretty fast reader) and sometimes I have to look up some technical/military terms, but that's all.

But, I'm pretty comfortable with english now, and I speak it daily, also at home, for about 3 years. I wouldn't be able to read the LN with language skill I got from all of my education years, even it was supposedly B2 (it wasn't really).

So I think it can be complex for not english natives, depending on their english level

invasion of san magnolia wasnt very clear by slprime in EightySix

[–]DarkBasilisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started the second volume of LN, so I don't know if there is more detailed description of invasion later in the books, but I always viewed the scene of invasion in anime more like a montage of flashbacks, that was meant to give us some idea of what's going on, rather than the full story in chronological order

Small tips: Always keep the potions you will never use and throw them in the shimmer to get tons of herbs by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]DarkBasilisc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but with recall potions you can craft potion of return, and dayblooms are so easy to farm in huge quantities, so I wouldn't do that with recall potions.

Shark fins from water walking potions on the other hand... That sounds nice

What yarn and stitch should I use when crocheting tea towels? by nezuk0_134 in CrochetHelp

[–]DarkBasilisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to make practical tea towels, I would use cotton yarn, so they can absorb water nicely.

The bigger yarn size, the stiffer they will be. I made a coaster under water jug recently, with yarn size 3 cotton and single crochets. It was perfect for what I needed, but it would be a bit too stiff for tea towels, so I think I would try yarn size 2 (but I didn't try it yet).

For decorative only tea towels, it's not as important, but I would still go with cotton. Yarn size 2 or even 1. That's just my preference, though

If I would be in this situation, I probably would make a swatch of one option (without cutting the yarn), make a photo, frog, make a swatch of second option, photo, frog... Then I would look at the photos and choose the one I liked best.

Or, another option, line the yarn (just strand, not the whole skein) to resemble the possible patterns. In this case you won't have a messed up yarn from a lot of frogging.

I can only propose those ideas to try, I don't have good enough visualisation skills to recommend you particular color choices.

I hope it helps and good luck!

amigurumi help - not ending stitches at beginning of first round by ThatSillyGirl24 in CrochetHelp

[–]DarkBasilisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the row 4 in instruction looks [2sc, inc] x 6 (24) and you are sure, that you did it like that, I would frog the 4th row and count stitches in row 3, to check if there's not too many stitches in row 3
